As-Salamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

I have prepared the following signs of the Promised Messiah, Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad al-Qadiani (‘alayhi

salam) from Qur’an and Hadith. It is meant to be used after one already understands that Jesus (as) has

passed away. There are 30 verses in the Qur’an that allude to this and insha’Allah I will write an article about

that as well. Distribute these signs as you please. Please spread the knowledge.

Do bear in mind, that this list is non-exhaustive and that there are many more signs that I have not mentioned

here.

Also bear in mind that Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) was not ignorant and definitely aware of the prevailing

notion among the Muslims that the Mahdi shall wage war on the non-believers along with Jesus (as) who shall

descend on a white minaret in Damascus, and that the Mahdi shall be from the lineage of Hadrat Fatima (ra)

and be from the Quraysh and be named Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah. He narrates these very notions here (pg. 4).

Such Ahadith if they exist not only are weak but go against the Qur’anic commandment of “no compulsion in

religion” (2:256) and therefore are rejected.

His role as the actual Mahdi was to correct the wrong understanding of the Mahdi held by Muslims of today,

brought about due to corruption of the scholars and also many fabricated Ahadith regarding the Mahdi.

For more proofs of the Mahdi in his own writing, please read his book Shahadat al-Qur’an.

Allāh and His Prophet (sa) Sometimes Speak in Metaphorical Language

ت ـ به ـ بوأخرمتش ـ ت هن أم ٱل كت ـ كم ح ت م ـ هءاي بمن ـ كت كٱل هوٱل ذى أنزلعلي

“He it is Who has revealed the Book to you. Some of its verses are literal. They are the basis of the Book – and

others are metaphorical.” (Sūrah Āl-e-‘Imrān, 3:6)

ويضربالل المثالللنهاس

“And Allāh sets forth parables to men, and Allah knows all things full well.” (Sūrah al-Nūr, 24:36)

- Sticking to literalism is very crude and very simple people can do that, but metaphor, allegory and imagery are

signs of eloquent speech, and obviously Allāh has the most eloquent speech, and the Prophet (sa) said he had

eloquent speech as well (Sahīh al-Bukhārī)

- If Jesus (as) were really to supposedly come down from the sky, who wouldn’t believe in him? The purpose

behind faith in the unseen (al-Ghayb) becomes purposeless then.

Page 2: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

- In history, no Prophet has ever ascended heaven or come down after thousands of years, not even Elijah (as)

whom the Jews were expecting to herald the Messiah and failed to realize that he came in the spirit of Yahya

(John the Baptist) as as stated by Jesus (as) in the Bible.

- The Qur’ān in Sūrah al-Maryam, Verse 58, it says Allāh raised the Prophet Idrīs (as) up using the word rafa’a

which is the same word used by Allāh for Jesus (as) in the Qur’ān yet no Muslim scholar believes Idrīs (as) رفع

physically ascended to heaven, nor do they believe he will come down from the sky. The Bible purports the

same idea.

Why is Promised Messiah Called ‘Īsa ibn Maryam?

“And Allah sets forth for those who believe the example of the wife of Pharaoh when she said, ‘My Lord! build

for me a house with Thee in the Garden; and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from the

wrongdoing people.’ And the example of Mary, the daughter of ‘Imran, who guarded her private parts — so We

breathed into him of Our Spirit — and she fulfilled in her person the words of her Lord and His Books and was

one of the obedient.’” (Sūrah al-Tahrīm, 66:12-13)

Shaykh Shahāb al-Dīn Suhrawardī (rh) writes: “The Murīd [disciple] is part of the Shaykh [preceptor], even as

in physical birth the son is part of the father. The Murīd comes to birth in a metaphorical manner in the sense

which Jesus described when he said that no man will enter the Kingdom of Heaven unless he is born twice

over.”

- Sometimes people name a person by the name of someone they are similar to in attributes

- Mary mentioned as a model for the believers

- So being ‘Jesus’, a ‘Son of Mary’ would indicate spiritual rank

Sign of the Eclipses

Page 3: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Sunni and Shi’a ahadith regarding the Mahdi say that a

lunar and solar eclipse shall happen in the month

Ramadan in a certain way for the Mahdi as per the

following hadith:

حدثناأبوسعيداإلصطخري،ثنامحمدبنعبدهللابننوفل،ثناعبيدبنيعيش،

يرعنعمروبنشمرعنجابرعنمحمدبنعليقالثنايونسبنبك إنلمهدينا :

.وتنكسفالشمسفيالنصفمنهولمتكونامنذخلقهللاالسمواتواألرض

“We heard from Abū Sa’īd al-Istakhrī, that Muhammad bin ‘Abdullah bin Nawfal heard that ‘Abīd bin Ya’īsh

heard that Yūnus bin Bakīr heard that ‘Umar bin Shamar heard that Jābir heard that Muhammad bin ‘Alī [al-

Bāqir] said [that the Prophet Muhammad (sa) said]:

‘Surely for our Mahdī there are two signs. These have not happened since the creation of the heavens and the

earth. The eclipse of the moon in the first night [out of the possible nights for an eclipse] in the month of

Ramadhān, and the eclipse of the sun in the halfway point of that [i.e. the middle day of the possible days of a

solar eclipse in Ramadhān]. And these signs have not occurred since the creation of the heavens and the

earth.” [translation by myself]

(Sunan al-Dārqutnī, Vol. II, Bāb Siffat Salāt al-Khusūf wa al-Kusūf wa Hayta’humā [Chapter: Qualities of the

Prayer at the Eclipses of the Sun and Moon, and other matters concerning these two], Kitāb al-’Īdayn [Book of

the Two 'Īd Festivals], Hadīth #10 of the Chapter, and #1771 of the Volume)

This happened for Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) twice. NASA databases of all eclipses in the 1800′s attest to this.

State of Muslim World

Another sign is the current state of the Muslim World. The ‘Ulama of today are like Jews at time of ‘Isa (as) as

per the Prophet’s (sa) prediction:

Abdullah bin Amar (ra) relates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said “Surely things will happen to my people as

happened earlier to the Jews; they will resemble each other like one shoe in a pair resembles the other to the

extent that if anyone among the Jews has openly committed adultery to his mother there will be some who will

do this in my Ummah as well” (Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Iman).

Page 4: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

This has happened as they focus so much on the physical observance of Islamic Law and nothing of the spirit

of Islam (Ihsan) or of the teaching of forgiveness. There is so much disarray in the Muslim world, from ISIS to

even Sufi jihadist groups such as the Naqshabandi Army in Iraq.

What else does the Qur’an say the Jews did, which Muslims today also do?

“They took up their priests and religious scholars as their Rabb besides Allah.” (9:31)

Al-Tirmidhi (no.2229) and others record the following hadith:

إنماأخافعلىأمتياألئمةالمضلين

“Surely I do not fear for my Ummah more than I fear they shall have corrupt leaders”

“ :قالرسولهللاصلىهللاعليهوسلم :وعنعليقال ىالناسزماناليبقىمناإلسلمإالاسمهواليبقىمنالقرآنإالرسمهمساجدهميوشكأنيأتيعل

“And ‘Alī (bin Abī Tālib) says that the Messenger of Allāh (sa) said: ‘There will come a time upon mankind when

there will be nothing left of Islām except its name, and nothing will be issue from them except strife and there

will be nothing remaining of the Qur’ān except its formalization (ie. the Qur’ān will be adorned and respected

yet its inner meanings will not be understood or acted upon), their mosques will be full (of people) but devoid of

guidance, their ‘Ulamā’ (scholars) will be the worst people under the sky. Strife will come from them and it will

return upon themselves.’ – As narrated by al-Bayhaqī.” (Mishkāt al-Masābīh, Kitāb al-‘Ilm – Book of

Knowledge, Book 2, Section 3, Hadīth #276/79)

Hadrat ‘Umar bin al-Khattab (radiAllahu ‘anhu), the second Rightly-Guided Caliph of Islam, said:

“Islam will be destroyed by the mistakes of scholars, the arguments of the hypocrites who misinterpret the

Qur’an to support their views and misleading rulers.”(‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattab: His Life & Times vol.1 p.333 Dr. ‘Ali

M. as-Sallabi)

These prophecies are very clear about the state of the Muslims at the time of the Imām Mahdī, whom they will

need for their reformation.

Page 5: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Muslims Forgetting the Qur’an

“And the Messenger will say, ‘O my Lord, my people

indeed treated this Qur’ān as a discarded thing.’”

(Sūrah al-Furqān, 25:31)

“This is the stark truth about Muslims today. The

question no longer is: How many Islamic things have

they abandoned. The question rather is: How many

have they not abandoned?

True it is today: ‘You may meet Muslims in a graveyard

and Islam in its books, Islam today can be found ill the pages of the Holy Quran the books of Hadith, and the

books of the Imams, but not in the lives of Muslims.

In the first place, Muslims are hardly aware of the teachings of Islam. If they seek such awareness, they soon

find that access to the meaning and spirit of Islam has become nearly impossible. Everything relating to Islam

has become distorted.

We are also told that divine revelation is not free from the influence of Satan; the only source of security is thus

taken away.

The ‘interpreters’ of Islam have not spared even the Holy Prophet. Falsely and indiscriminately they have

attributed to him a love affair with Zaynab, or secret relations with a slave girl, or other inconceivable things. In

this way they have detracted from the matchless beauty of character which is the Holy Prophet’s.

A theory of abrogation (mansookh) has been invented, and a perfect book like the Holy Quran has been put in

doubt.

Then it is taught that a dead prophet, himself a follower of Moses, ‘Isa bin Maryam, will come and rejuvenate

Islam in our time, the followers of the Holy Prophet and his example of influence being unable to do so.

To pray in one’s own language during pauses between prescribed prayers is branded as Kufr, or unbelief.

Their economic enterprise has ended. Their great name is gone. Science and intellect, once their handmaids

and constant companions, seem like strangers to them.

Muslim mystics have also degenerated and those who receive revelation are no where to be found among the

Muslims.

Page 6: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

The ‘Ulama promote disaffection and mutual hostility. They sponsor their own opinions as the teaching of God

and His Prophet.

The ruling classes amongst Muslims are corrupt. Exploiting the poor and the ignorant is their daily business.

The opportunity to rule is for them not an opportunity to serve, but an opportunity to dominate and dictate.

Islam, once the scourge of other religions, is today a carcass, being eaten by worms and vultures. Money and

means can be found by Muslims for all their needs but not for the defense and dissemination of Islam.

Time can be found for scandal-mongering, for gossip and for the entertainment of friends, but not for learning

or teaching the Holy Book.”

- Hadrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad (radiAllahu ‘anhu), Caliph II of the Mahdi

Alcohol Consumption, Disappearance of Knowledge, Adultery, Gender Ratio

Another sign which is happening today.

Anas ibn Malik (ra) said,

“I shall tell you a Hadith which I heard from the

Messenger of Allah, and which no-one will tell you after

me. I heard him say, ‘Among the signs of the Hour will

be the disappearance of knowledge and the

appearance of ignorance. Adultery will be prevalent

and the drinking of wine will be common. The number

of men will decrease and the number of women will

increase until there will be fifty women to be looked

after by one man.”

This Hadith was reported in the two Sahihayn from the Hadith of ‘Abd Rabbihi.

Disappearance of Knowledge

Another sign:

‘Abd Allah said,

“The Prophet said, ‘Just before the Hour, there will be days in which knowledge will disappear and ignorance

will appear, and there will be much killing.’ ” (Ibn Majah; also narrated by Bukhari and Muslim, from the Hadith

of al-A’mash)

Page 7: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Persian Reformer of Islam

Another sign is that when the following verse was revealed to the Prophet (sa), “And He (Allah) has sent him

(Muhammad) also to others (Muslims) who have not yet joined him” (62:3), the companions asked who these

other Muslims are.

He said that “a time will come when Iman (faith) shall ascend to al-Thurayya (the stars) and a man from

Salman al-Farsi’s people shall bring it back” (Sahih Bukhari, Kitab al-Tafsir, Book 60, #420).

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) had a Persian heritage from his father’s lineage, and Mirza is a Persian title of

nobility.

Black Flag of Khorasan

To elaborate on this last point,

Thawban (ra) narrated that the Prophet (sa) said: “If you see the black banners emerging from Khurasan

(Persia), seek to join their supporters even if creeping, because among them will be caliph Al-Mahdi.” (Sunan

Ibn Majah, Vol. 3, 4084)

This flag is the flag of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community today (contrary to popular belief it is not the flag of

any Jihadist groups since this flag would be for the followers of the Mahdi).

Prophetic Lineage

Then there are Ahadith that say that the Mahdi shall be from the lineage of the Prophet (sa).

Page 8: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

“Al-Mahdi is one of us, from the members of the household (Ahlul-Bayt).” (Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 2, Tradition

No. 4085)

“Ibn `Asakir has reported in his Tarikh : A person from the family of Hasan will appear from the Eastern

countries. Even if mountains stood in his way he will demolish them and make his way through.” [Hujaj al-

Kiramah, p. 355.]

However there are other Ahadith stating things like the following:

“Dar Qutni reports that: Mahdi will be from the family of my uncle `Abbas.” [Ibid., p. 355].

Yet there is another report which reads:

“O ‘Abbas! God started this matter with me and will end it with a young man of your progeny who will fill this

earth with justice as it was filled with violence.” [Kanz al-`Ummal (Da'irat al-Mu'arif al-Nizamiyyah Press

Hyderabad, 1314 A.H.) vol. 7, p. 188]

With conflicting reports on whether he shall be a Hassani, Hussayni, from ‘Abbas or otherwise, it seems as if

the Prophet (sa) rather was meaning to say that the Mahdi shall follow his Sunnah therefore be counted as one

of his Ahl-ul-Bayt.

This is in line with the following hadith:

سلمانمن ااهلالبيت

“Salmān is from among us, that is, the Ahlul-Bayt.” (Aṭ-Ṭabaqātul-Kubrā, By Muḥammad bin Sa‘d, Volume 4, p.

360, Aṭ-Ṭabaqatuth-Thāniyatu Minal- Muhājirīna Wal-Anṣār / Salmān Al-Fārisī, Dāru Iḥyā’it-Turāthil-‘Arabī,

Beirut, Lebanon, FirstEdition (1996))

In any case, since the lineage would be maternal anyway (through Fatima az-Zahra (radiAllahu ‘anha), Mirza

Ghulam Ahmad’s (as) was a direct descendant of the Prophet (sa) through his mother.

Jesus and the Messiah Different Persons

It should be kept in mind though that any hadith that mentions the “Mahdi” is weak. Sahih Bukhari and Muslim

don’t even mention the term Mahdi but only mention the coming of the Masih.

If Jesus (as) is dead, then who is the Masih that the Prophet (sa) predicted?

Ibn ‘Arabi says:

Page 9: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

وجبنزولهفیآخرالزمانبتعلقةببدنآخر

“His descent in the last days shall definitely be in a different body.” (Tafsīrul Qur’ān Al-Karīm, Volume 2, Page

296)

“Ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet said: ‘I saw Jesus and Moses and Abraham (during the Mi’rāj – Night

Journey). Jesus was of a rosy complexion, curly hair, and broad chest. Moses was of brown complexion,

straight hair, and tall stature as if he was from the men of al-Zutt.” (Sahīh Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Anbiyā’ – Book of

the Prophets, Ch. 48, Hadith #3438)

Narrated Nāfi’, Narrated ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allāh be pleased with both of them): The Messenger of

Allāh said, ‘I saw myself (in a dream) near the Ka’bah last night, and I saw a man with an Ādam-ic (light brown)

complexion, the best you may see amongst men of that complexion, having long hair reaching his earlobes

which was the best hair of its sort, and he had combed his hair and water was dropping from it, and he was

performing the Tawaf (circulation) around the Ka’bah while he was leaning on two men or on the shoulders of

two men. I asked, ‘Who is this man?’ Somebody replied, ‘(He is) Messiah, son of Mary.’ Then I saw another

man with very curly hair (ja’din), blind in the right eye which looked like a protruding out grape. I asked, ‘Who is

this?’ Somebody replied, ‘(He is) the Antichrist Messiah (al-Masīh al-Dajjāl).’” (Sahīh Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Ta’bīr –

Book of the Interpretation of Dreams, Ch. 11, Hadith #6999 and Sahīh Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Libās – Book of

Clothing, Hadith #789)

In one hadith, the Prophet (sa) said he saw Jesus with a reddish complexion, and in the other he said he saw

the Messiah who is to come with a light brown complexion and could not recognize him even though he knew

what Jesus looked like from seeing him before in Mi’raj. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) had a light brown

complexion.

Also, Na’īm ibn Hammād (ra) narrated that the Prophet (sa) said:

المهديآدممنالهل

“The Mahdī will be of light brown complexion from amongst the people.” (Kanz al-‘Ummāl, Vol. 7)

Page 10: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Mahdi and Messiah are Titles for the Same Individual

Mahdi and Messiah are not 2 different persons but in fact descriptions for the same person:

Ahadith:

“Abū Hurayrah (radiAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallAllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘Whosoever

from amongst you that is living when ‘Īsa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary) arrives (yalaqā), (he is) the Imām

Mahdī and Hakam ‘Adil (Just Arbiter), (he will) then break the cross (yaksaru al-Salīb) and kill the swine

(yaqtalu al-Khinzīr) and put Jizyah (yada’ al-Jizyah) and war (yada’ al-Harb) to an end (awzāruhā).’” (Musnad

“Wahb ibn Baqiyyah al-Wāṣiṭī narrated to us; Khālid ibn ‘Abdi-Llāh narrated to us; from al-Jarīrī, from Abū

Naḍrah, from Ḥaḍrat Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī (ra), he said: Ḥadrat Rasūlu-llāh (sa) said: If two caliphs are given

allegiance at the same time, murder the last of both”. [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Kitāb al-Imārah, Bāb Idhā Būyi‘a Li

Khalīfatayn, no. 1853]

According to several aḥādīth, al-Mahdī is called a Caliph of Allāh. In other places, al-Masīḥ is named the caliph

of my Ummah. For instance:

“Beware, there shall be no prophet or messenger between Jesus, the son of Mary, and me. Remember, he

shall be my Khalīfah in my Ummah after me.” (Mu‘jam Kabīr wa Awsaṭ wa Ṣaghīr of Imām Tabrānī)

Thawban (ra) relates that the Holy Prophet (sa) said: ‘When you find the Mahdī, perform bay`ah at his hands.

You must go to him, even if you have to reach him across icebound mountains on your knees. He is the Mahdī,

the Khalīfah of Allāh” (Ibn Mājah, Kitāb al-Fitan – Book of the Turmoils)

So, due to al-Masīḥ’s coming after the Mahdi, he must be killed pursuant to the teaching of ḥadīth. Or you

could have one Caliph to unite the Ummah who is both Masih and Mahdi. In this regard:

Imam Abu Hanifah:

ونعلىالمسلمينفيوقتواحدفيجميعالدنياإمامانالمتفقانوالمتفرقانأنهاليجوزأنيك .

“It is impermissible for Muslims in one single time throughout the world to have two Imāms, neither concordant

nor divergent”. [Al-Mīzān al-Kubrā 2/131]

Al-Imām an-Nawawī, a shāfi‘ī scholar, said in ash-Sharḥ:

.واتفقالعلماءعلىأنهاليجوزأنيعقدالخليفتينفيعصرواحدسواءاتسعتداراإلسلمأمال

“Scholars have come into agreement that it is impermissible that two caliphs are appointed in one single period,

same either Dār al-Islām expands or not”. [Sharḥ Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 12/232]

Ibn Ḥazm, aẓ-Ẓāhirī, a 4th Hijrī scholar, wrote:

.واليحلأنيكونفيالدنياإالإمامواحد

“It is not legal in the world except only one single Imām”. [al-Muḥallā 9/360]

Al-Imām al-Mawardī, a medieval expert in as-Siyāsah al-Islāmiyyah (Islamic political theory), wrote:

“If Imāmah is appointed for two Imāms, their Imāmah is nor warrantable as it is impermissible for Ummah to

have two Imāms in one single time”. [al-Aḥkām as-Sulṭāniyyah 1/10]

Page 12: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Scholars:

al-Qurṭubī:

“There is no Perfect and Infallible Mahdī except Jesus”. [at-Tadhkirah 2/723]

Ibn Khaldun:

“There will be none of Mahdī except the Mahdī whose relation to the Muḥammadian Law in adherence and

absence of abrogation is like the relation of Jesus to the the Mosaic Law”. [Muqaddimah Ibn Khaldūn, al-Qism

ath-Thānī Min al-Faṣl ath-Thālith Wa al-Khamsūn Fī Amr al-Fāṭimī]

Mujāhid ibn Jabr, a student of Imam ‘Alī (ra) and Ḥaḍrat Ibn ‘Abbās (ra), stated:

.المهديعيسىابنمريم :حدثناالوليدبنعتبة؛عنزائدة،عنليث،عنمجاهد،قال

“Al-Walīd ibn ‘Utbah narrated to us; from Zā’idah, from Layth, from Mujāhid, he said: Al-Mahdī is Jesus Son of

Maryam”. [al-Muṣannaf, Kitāb al-Fitan, no. 38660] – Ṣaḥīḥ Maqṭū‘

Ibn Kathīr said:

“Both of them do not conflict each others with contemplation. But, the meaning of that is that al-Mahdī in the

true sense is Jesus Son of Mary”. [Al-Bidāyah Wa an-Nihāyah 19/67]

Al-Walīd ibn Muslim, one of the Imāms from the Tābi‘īn, narrated:

“Al-Walīd narrated to us; he said: I once heard of someone talk to a group of people: al-Mahdiyyūn are three.

Mahdī of virtue, he is ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd-il-‘Azīz. Mahdī of blood, whom blood dwells in. Mahdī of religion, he is

Jesus Son of Maryam whose Ummah is safe in his time”. [al-Fitan Li Nu‘aym ibn Ḥammād, no. 1043] – Ṣaḥīḥ

Village of Kadi’ah

The Prophet (sa) said:

يخرجالمهديمنقريةيقاللهالهاكدعة

“The Mahdi will appear in a village called Kadi’ah.” (Jawāhir al-Asrār, pg. 55)

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) was born in Qadian, which etymologically is traced to the word Qadiya, which is

similar to Kadi’ah.

Descent of the Messiah

“Jesus son of Mary will descend near a white minaret to the East of Damascus” – Prophet Muhammad (sa)

(Sahīh Muslim)

No such minaret existed in Damascus when the Prophet (sa) made this prediction.

- Qadian is directly East of Damascus

- There is a white minaret in Qadian, and Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was born near it

- Meaning of nuzūl نزول(as said in this hadīth, ينزل‘he will descend’) literally means “descent” but can also

mean to “appear” or “be manifest” and never means “to come down from the sky”. In this hadīth, it means that

the Messiah will appear, and not descend down from the sky, as Seyyidina ‘Īsaas is dead. In the Qur’ān itself,

the word nuzūl and its various derivatives appear 293 times, and mostly every single time (with the exception of

the sending down of iron, حديد hadīd perhaps from the sky, هللاأعلم), it means to “appear” rather than “descend

from the sky”. It says:

أنزلثم رسولهعلىۥسكينتهٱلل

“Then Allāh sent down tranquility upon His Messenger.” (Sūrah al-Tawbah, 9:26)

أنزلقد كم ٱلل اإلي ر سوال ذك لوار كم يت تعلي ـ ٱلل ءاي

“Surely Allāh sent down to you a Reminder, the Messenger, who recites unto you the Signs of Allāh.” (Sūrah al-

Talāq, 65:11-12)

كمعلأنزلثم ن ي دم غم بع اأمنة ٱل شىن عاس نكم طا ٮفة يغ م

“Then I sent upon you, after the sorrow, peace upon a group of you that was overcome with slumber.” (Sūrah

Āl-e-‘Imrān, 3:155)

بتنزيل ـ كت عزيزٱلل منٱل حكيمٱل ٱل

“The descent (revelation) of this Book is from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise.” (Sūrah al-Zumar, 39:2)

Page 14: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

نلكمأنزل مم ـ ع ن نيةٱأل ـ وٲج ثم أز

“And I have sent down to you from the eight head of cattle in pairs.” (Sūrah al-Zumar, 39:7)

ناقد كم أنزل اعلي ءٲتكم يوٲرىلباس اسو وريش

“We have indeed sent down to you clothes to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you.” (Sūrah

al-A’rāf, 7:27)

There are more examples in the Holy Qur’ān of nuzūl means to appear, and not fly down from the sky.

Moreover, a book of ancient classical Arabic poetry called Hamāsa composed by Labīb ibn ‘Aws al-Ta’ī

(nicknamed Abū Tamām) has the following statement:

نزلتعلى –آلالمهلبشانياغريبمنالوطانفيزمنالمحل

“Nazalat ‘alā Āli al-Muhallab shāniyā – gharīban min al-Awtāni fī zaman al-Haml.”

“I came and stayed with the children of Muhallab as a guest’ in winter, while I was a stranger, in the days of

famine.” (Hamāsa)

Here, the word nazalat نزلتmeans ‘I came and stayed’ rather than ‘I flew down from the sky.’

Also, Lane’s Arabic-English Lexicon lists the word nazala نزل and its various derivations to mean “he settled,

made him his guest, occupied, became the position or occupation of, alighted, stopped or sojourned or lodged

in the place.”

Page 15: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Similarities with Muhammadan and Mosaic Messiahs

Then there is the fact that he appeared 1400 years after the Prophet Muhammad (sa) as a follower to the

Prophet Muhammad (sa), not adding to nor subtracting from the Islamic Shari’a (Law) being raised when the

British Empire ruled his land, while Jesus (as) appeared 1400 years after the Prophet Moses (as) as a follower

to Moses, not adding to nor subtracting from the Mosaic Law (as it says in the Gospel of Matthew that “I have

not come to destroy or add even iota to the Law”).

There are at least 15 other similarities of Jesus and Ahmad as described by the latter himself.

Coming of Dajjal

Page 16: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Then there is the fact that the Dajjal, Gog and Magog (Ya’juj/Majuj), Insect of the Earth (Da’bbat al-Ardh) and

Great Smoke (al-Dukhan) have already appeared. For more info, please see my article on the topic:

https://theartofmisinformation.wordpress.com/2011/09/03/the-dajjal-2/

Prophecies in Surah Takwir

Then there are the prophecies in Surah al-Takwir of the Qur’an which all have happened in the time of the

Mahdi (as):

“And when she-camels are abandoned” (81:4)

The Prophet (sa) also said in Sahih Muslim:

Page 17: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

اليتركنالقلسفليسصعاعليهها

“Travel by camel will cease”.

This occurred in the 1800s’ when camels and horses were replaced by new forms of automobiles.

“And when the people are brought together” (81:7)

This refers to the coming of the internet, and of of the establishment of a global village.

And there are more signs in this Surah alone and may be explored in this Tafsir (Commentary) of the Qur’an.

Yellow Robes Prophecy

إذبعثهللاالمسيحبنمريمفينزلعندالمنارةالبيضاءشرقيبينمهرودتينواضعاكفيهعلىأجنحةملكيندمشق

“When Allah will send the Messiah son of Mary, then he will descend near a white minaret to the East of

Damascus, wearing two yellow robes taking his hands upon wings of two angels.” (Sahīh Muslim, Book 41,

Kitāb al-Fitān wa Ashrāt al-Sā’ah – Book of the Turmoil and Portents of the Hour, Ch. 18, Hadith #7015)

Explanation:

- Imām Ahmad ibn Hanbal called the kuffār (non-believers) بنياألصفر(Children of the Yellow) as recorded in al-

Bidāyah wa’l-Nihāyah (The History of the Beginning and End) by Imām Ibn Kathīr.

- ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ās (ra) heard that the Messenger of Allāh (sa) said to him:

Page 18: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

معصفرين،فقالإنهذهمنثيابالكفارفلتلبسها عليثوبين

“About two yellow robes (that I was wearing), then he said ‘Surely these are from the clothing of the kuffār (non-

believers) so do not wear these two.’” (Sahīh Muslim, Book 24, Kitāb al-Libās wa al-Zīnah – Book of Clothing

and Decoration, Ch. 3, Hadith #5173)

:عنأنسرضيهللاعنهقال - نهىالنبيصلىهللاعليهوسلمأنيتزعفرالرجل

“Anas (ra) said: The Prophet (sa) prohibited men from wearing yellow robes.” (Riyādh al-Sālihīn, Kitāb al-Amr

al-Munhī ‘Anhā – Book of the Prohibited Actions, Bāb: Tahrīm labasa al-Rajul thawban muz’afran – Chapter:

Prohibition of Wearing Yellow Robes, Hadīth #1798, also recorded in the Sahīhayn – Bukhārī and Muslim)

- Therefore, if Jesus (as) is going to come wearing yellow robes, it would contradict with two other statements

of the Prophet (sa) where he said Muslims should not wear yellow robes.

- Muhammad Ibn Sirīn (rh), the most famous Muslim interpreter of dreams who lived in the 8th century and was

a friend of Anas bin Malik (ra) and was therefore a tabi’, wrote in his book Ta’bīr al-Ru’yā (Interpretation of

Dreams) that yellow clothes represent illness and disease.

- Therefore, it indicates that the Messiah will have two illnesses. One on the top part of his body, and one on

the bottom part. And Seyyidina Ahmad (as) had both vertigo (a disease of the top part of the body) and

diabetes (a disease of the bottom part). Prophets have gotten sick including the Prophet Muhammad (sa) and

Prophet Ayyūb (as) who was known to be sick often.

Messiah from Among the Muslims

كيفأنتمإذانزلابنمريمفيكموإمامكم

“How will you be when the Son of Mary will appear among you and is your Imām (leader) from amongst you.”

(Sahīh Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Anbiyā’ – Book of the Prophets, Ch. 49, Hadith #3449)

منککمم اففيکممريمابننزلاذاانتميف

“What will be your situation, when the son of Mary will descend among you and who will perform the duties of

your Imām.” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Iman, vol. 1 page 137)

Both of the above ahadith مکماما مکنم and م کممم امنکم indicate that the name ‘Isa bin Maryam is used

as allegorically and refers to an Imām who shall be from the Muslims and not from the Jews, as Jesus (as)

was.

Coming of Ahmad

“And when Jesus, son of Mary, said, ‘O children of Israel, surely I am Allah’s Messenger unto you, fulfilling that

which is before me of the Torah, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me. His name will

be Ahmad.’” (Sūrah al-Saff, 61:7)

- Allāh says that Jesus said Rasūlin ya’tī mim ba’dī. Ismuhū Ahmad رسوليأتيمنبعدي اسمهأحمد

In Sahīh Bukhārī there is a hadīth where the Prophet (sa) said one of his names is ‘Ahmad’. However, how can

a Prophet come ba’da (after) Jesus named Ahmad if he was still alive at the time the Prophet Muhammad (sa)

was alive on this earth? It indicates that Jesus is dead.

- Ghulām Ahmad means “Slave/Son of Muhammad”, as Ahmad was the other name of the Prophet (sa). The

word ghulāmun is found in the Qur’ān many times and means ‘youth, slave’ or ‘son’.

Breaking the Cross, Killing the Swine, Stopping War, Distributing Wealth

“By the One who owns my soul, it is nigh, of a certainty, that the son of Mary will appear (come and stay with

you) among you: He will be a judge, he will be just; so he will break the Cross and kill the Swine; and he will

stop war: and wealth will increase so that no one will accept it; and a single Sajdah (prostration) will be better

than the whole world and all that there is in it.” (Sahīh Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Anbiyā’ – Book of the Prophets, Ch. 49)

Ahmad, Hadīth #9002)

- As far as yaksuru’l-salīb (breaking the cross) is concerned, the authentic and classical view of this is given by

Badr al-Din al-‘Aynī (rh) in his well-known commentary of Sahih al-Bukhari, “Umdah al-Qarī fī Sharh Sahīh al-

Bukhārī” that this means to refute Christian doctrines and put an end to the dominance of Christianity as a

world superpower.

- As far as yaqtulu’l-khinzīr (kill the swine) is concerned, Imām Ghazālī (rahmatAllāhu ‘alayh)’s book Kitāb

Sharh-e-‘Ajā’ib al-Qalb (Book of Commentary of the Mysteries of the Heart) in which Imam Ghazāli, Hujjah wa

Page 20: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

Mujjadid al-Islām (Proof of and Centennial Reformer of Islām), states that there are 3 states of soul that are

inclined to sin:

- Khinzīr al-Shahwah (Pig of Carnal Desires)

- Kalb al-Ghadhab (Dog of Anger)

- Shaytān al-Nafs (Demon of Soul)

If it is understood that ‘khinzīr’ here is a metaphor for “carnal desires” therefore it is fitting that the Prophet (sa)

said the Messiah shall kill this pig of carnal desires, and not go around killing every pig, a feat which cannot be

done by one man alone, serves no purpose, and is irrational. Another meaning of this is that when Muslims

become the majority of the world (which Seyyidina Ahmad (as) said would happen approx. 300 years after his

death) the consumption of swine shall altogether be abandoned.

- As far as yaḍaʿu’l-ḥarb / yaḍaʿu’l-jizya awzāruhā (ending war / end [the necessity for taking] Jizya) is

concerned, the Promised Messiahas was a man of peace, to the extent that his final book written a day before

his death was called “Message of Peace”, emphasizing what was already known as the Greater Jihād of the

Nafs, or the Purification of the Soul.

- As far as the Imam Mahdi being Imāmukum minkum (Imām from amongst yourselves), Ḥakam (Arbiter of Fiqh

and other Islāmic matters), and ʿĀdal (just ruler), Seyyidina Mirzā Ghulām Ahmad (as) was all these things. As

Ibn ʿArabī states in his Kitāb al-Mahdī (Book of the Mahdī) that the Mahdī shall make new fatāwa not based on

his hawā (desires) or ijtihād or the 4 classical madhāhib (Hanafī, Hanbalī, Mālikī and Shafīʿi) but based on

direct revelation (ilhām) from Allah, and it is for this reason that the people shall reject him saying he is not

practicing Islam as is understood by the fiqh of the 4 Classical Schools of Thought, this is exactly what

happened. He further, as Hakam, said that his followers should follow the fuquhā’ (classical jurists) of the

Hanafī madhhab, which is what we do, and by inference it is understood that the Usūl (methodology) of the

Hanafī madhhab should also be used.

- As far as distributing wealth (yafīdh al-Māl ليفيضالما ) that no one will want to take, there are many people

today who do not want to read the books of Seyyidina Imam Mahdīas, but rather listen to misinformation

spewed by antagonists of Jamā’ah al-Islāmiyyah al-Ahmadīyyah. The corpus of books the Promised Messiah

produced is called Ruhānī Khazā’in (Spiritual Treasures) for a reason. He said, ‘The treasures that laid buried

for more than a thousand years; are now being distributed by me to the one who is ready to accept them.’

Anyone reading his books can see this for himself, especially his Arabic works.

Furthermore, even the Prophet (sa) said:

Page 21: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

“Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?” I said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!”

Thereupon he (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said, ‘(Recite) ‘La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah’ (There is no change of a condition nor

power except by Allah).” (Al-Bukhari Book 16, Hadith 1443, and Muslim)

Summary of Some Signs

Finally, I leave you with a quotation of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as) himself:”Now about my claim which is

supported by a host of arguments and proofs….

- Is it not enough to establish the truth of my claim that the Holy Qur’an has discussed in graphic detail the

signs of and circumstances relating to my coming.

- In a way, my name too has been foretold.

- Even the name of my village, namely, Kadi’a is also there in the traditions.

- The traditions further prove that the Promised Messiah will be born in the thirteenth century and will appear in

the fourteenth.

- In the Sahih Bukhari is found the full description of my facial features…..

- And this too is laid down in as many words that the Promised Messiah will appear to the East of Damascus. –

And is not Qadian in fact to the East of Damascus?

- Similarly the timely occurrence of lunar and solar eclipses in the month of Ramadhan just when I had

announced my claim to be the Promised Messiah and the people at large had refused to accept this claim as

authentic.

- Similarly, in keeping with the prophecies of the Quran and the traditions, the invention of the railways and the

camel’s consequent redundancy;

- obstacles to the performance of Pilgrimage to Ka’ba;

- the age of the triumph of the cross;

- the appearance of hundreds of signs at my hands,

- the present time being exactly the time fixed by the earlier prophets;

- my being commissioned to the present office at the head of the century;

- visions and dreams experienced by thousands of virtuous people testifying to my authenticity;

- the statement of the Holy Qur’an and of the Holy Prophet, that the Promised Messiah will be one of the

Ummah;

- my affairs being visited by divine succour;

- the pledge of Bay’ah (initiation) at my hands by about two hundred thousand people and consequently their

following the path of truth and virtue;

- the crumbling of Christianity as a religion and the subsequent softening of the hold of trinity like the melting

snows;

Page 22: Signs of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as Mahdi and Messiah by Tayyab Pirzada

- the division of Muslims into a large number of denominational sects and their state of decadence and the

numerous innovations and deviations from the norm,

- the current polytheism, alcoholism, sexual promiscuity, dishonesty and falsehood which have run rampant on

a global scale and resulted in a great upheaval and crisis in the world

- and on every dimension tremendous revolutionary changes are taking place in the universe;

- and as will be borne out by all reasonable people the world needs a reformer;

- and finally the failure of all to compete with me in miraculously competitive writing

- and in showing heavenly signs and the fulfillment of hundreds of thousands of divine prophecies in my

support. In short, all these signs and proofs and corroborative circumstances should be sufficient evidence for a

God-fearing person to accept my claim.”

(Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), Tazkiratush-Shahadatain pg. 38-39)

Importance of Accepting the Mahdī and Messiah

- In the book “Sunan ibn Mājah” regarding the Imām al-Mahdī, it is recorded that the Holy Prophet (sall Allahu

‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “When you find the Mahdi perform the bay’ah at his hands. You must go to him even if

you have to reach him across icebound mountains on your knees. He is the Mahdi and Caliph of Allah”

- In the book “Sunan Abu Dawūd,” regarding the Messiah, it is recorded that the Holy Prophet (sall Allahu

‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “…when you see him accept him…”

- In the book “Durr al-Manthūr,” of Imām Suyūti, regarding the Messiah, it recorded that the Holy Prophet (sall

Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever among you meets Jesus, son of Mary, should convey my greetings to

him.”

- In the book “Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal” regarding the Imām Mahdī it is recorded that the Prophet (sall Allahu

‘alayhi wa sallam) said: ’He who dies in a condition that he has not recognized the Imām al-Zamān (of the age)

dies a death of ignorance.’

- Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman: “Stick to the Jama’at (community) of Muslims and their Imam (ruler).” I

said, “If there is neither a Jama’at of Muslims nor an Imam (ruler)?” He said, “Then turn away from all

those sects even if you were to bite (eat) the roots of a tree till death overtakes you while you are in that

state.” (Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 88, Number 206)
