Wytold (William Wytold Lebing) beganprivate lessons in classical
cello repertoireat age 10 and participated in school andregional
youth orchestras throughoutNorthern Virginia, often as the
principalchair. Wytold always dreamt of going tocollege to study
cello performance but washeld back by a bad case of
carpal-tunnelsyndrome. After a 1.5 year hiatus, Wytoldreintroduced
himself to playing music bylearning folk songs on the acoustic
guitarand gradually writing his own songs. Soonhe rewrote his songs
on the acoustic cello, adapting guitar techniques to rhythmic
cellobowing and finger-picking. Soon after,Wytold started
live-looping and taughthimself to play the shoulder-strapped
six-string electric cello. His educationalbackground in mathematics
and physicshelps him visualize and manipulate thedifferent cello
loops when composing andperforming.
Wytold is actively performing andcomposing in the Washington, DC
metroarea. As part of the Strathmore Artist inResidence program,
