Spring Dashi festival

What is Handa city…?Handa has prospered since long ago in the marine shipping and brewing industries.

Its history is can be seen alive all around its towns.

31 splendid "floats(called Dashi)", tasteful "warehouses" along the Handa waterway, "Niimi Nankichi",

known for the fairy tale "Gon, the Fox", and "Handa Red Brick Building",

which is a living vestige of the Meiji era.

Wherever you look there are genuine historical and cultural artifacts.

We will continue brewing lots of treats in the future.

Held in 10 districts through out the city from late Marchto May 3/4, a total of 31 festival cars appear one afteranother.

Handa Dashi Festival

A majestic festival event held once in five years.There is a magnificent line-up of 31 festivalcars together that are a pride of Handa.The 8th "Handa Festival”is held in onOctober 7 and 8, 2017.

Mechanical dollsMany elaborate puppets are riding on the festival floats. There are "string puppets" which are controlled by strings, as well as "kakurezukai", which are controlled by multiple performers dressed in black.

Learn about a diverse array of Chita Peninsula's history, nature, etc. including real exhibits of Dashi and vinegar- making process via permanent exhibits.

This road was a bustling road used by many people in the Edo period, and it is said there were dyer’s houses here. Parts of the old townscape remains with an air of ancient times.

Created in 1898 as the manufacturing factory of Kabuto Beer. It is among the five largest brick structures built in the Meiji era in Japan. It is an especially precious structure because very few beer factories made of bricks still exist. You can still feel the determinedentrepreneurial spirit which challengedthe major beer makers from aprovincial town in the early daysof Japanese beer history.

The history of the birth of the Handa Red Brick Building and Kabuto Beer introduced via models, images, photos from the time, etc. You can feel the enthusiastic spirit of "creation" of our ancestors.

An authentic German beer that won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris World Exposition. Reproduced based on the recipe from the Meiji era.

NankichiNankichiNiimi Nankichi(1913~1943)A children's writer who is known as the author of the fairy tales "Gon the Fox", "Going to Buy Gloves", and "sorrow of a snail ".

An untouched woodland that was written about in Nankichi's literature where you can come in contact with nature, this place was traditionally said to be the castle of Nakayama, a character who appear in the Fairy Tale "Gon the Fox". A memorial literary museum which houses handwritten

manuscripts, correspondence, etc. of Niimi Nankichi. It is built on the ground which was the stage for "Gon the Fox". In the fairy tale forest, there is a walking route where you can observe the plants that appear in the story.

Handa, the hometown of fairy tale writer Niimi Nankichi. At "Nankichi Village" in Yanabe where Nankichi was born and grew up, you are greeted by the scenery that inspired Nankichi's fairy tales and the flowers he loved.

Born July 30, 1913 in the town of Handa (currently Handa city)in Chita District, Aichi Prefecture. Losing his mother at a young age, he was put up for adopiotn and led a lonely life as a child. He continued writing while working as a teacher, and died of tuberculosis at the age of 29 on March 22, 1943.

Kamisaki Shrine(god of children)

Becoming the only prefectural shrine on the Chita Peninsula in 1885, even after the shrine ranking system was abolished it continued to be colloquially known as the "prefectural shrine". The Shiohi Festival is the festival of Kamisaki Shrine.
