Of course there was a material inclination in that way on the part of nearly every person, for there is surely equity, if not law, in such a dourse'. The rule of Inw once broken, the* waters flowed freely, and the exainplelwas followed by Ooonee, Piekens and Greenville- Counties, the entire cir¬ cuit of Jndge Orr. Our Abbeville ex¬ changes inform ns that the samo course, in a greater degree is being adopted in that Oouuty. The rule there is to allow on old debts, one-half of the principal and interest to the 1st day of January, 1861, being about thirty per cent, of the debt and interest. Maurice, Esq., of Williams¬ burg County, writes as follows to tho King3treo Star: Having1 been en gaged for some time past'in endeavoring to ascertain whether the Supreme Court of the United States has ever decided that the national cur¬ rency, known as "greenbacks," could not be taxed by State authority, I am now prepared to report, f-»r the informa¬ tion of all whom it may concern, that suoh is the tact. The decision is fully reported in the ease of the Bank r.s. the Supervisors of New York, 7th Wallnco's Reports, page 26. Tt therefore follows that the recent Act of the Legislature of South' Carolina which attempts to tax greenbacks, like any other property, is unconstitutional and should not be en¬ forced, j The aggregate production of Louis¬ ville, Ky., manufactories for the past year wore $42,970,000, au increase of 82,377,255 over the previous year. AFTER an extensivo uso of this important improvement in practice for nearly two years, it ia with full confidence urged upon the profession and the public, as folhlling more thoroughly and satisfactorily than any other mode, every intention of Artificial Dentures. As in this method, rubber teeth are alto¬ gether discarded, it is desirable that it should fall especially into the hands of those familiar with gold plate work. It may not be generally known that thev who wear oases of artificial teeth, constructed according to this patent, by Dentists who are not licensees, render themselves liable to the penalty of infringement, as well as the ope¬ rator. To the People of South Carolina : Tho above Company waa organised in 18GG, in consequence of tho wholesale forfeiture of Southorn policies by Northern comp au icu. Tho unparalleled success of tho enterprise has forced several of thoao companies to restore their Southorn policies, from the fact that they could not operate in our midst without the ap- pearance of honesty. Wc keep all our money at horno to build up our impoverished country-every dollar of premium being safely invested iu the Stato from which it is derived. Thc institution is purely Southern, and hence should appeal1 with great force to the patriotism and sympa¬ thy of every Southern heart. 'Tis not our purpose to make war on other companies, but to exhibit thc special advan- tages offered by this puroly Southern Compa¬ ny-founded on patriotism and solid wealth. Its ratio of assets to liabilities-thc true test of a company's strength, is second to none on this continent-being nearly 300 to 100. Whenever and wherever we have presented tho claims of this Company, it has not only eniiated the sympathies of our people, but has also secured their hearty co-operation. We have secured 500 policies in Soxth Carolina since the 10th of February. We number among our Directors Gen. Wade Hampton and Col. Wm. Johnston, gentlemen well known to every citizen of South Carolina. Wo appeal personally to tho people of South Carolina to assist in pushing forward this deservedly popular Southern institution. J.
