Corporate Responsibility In Pakistan

• Floods in PakistanDonations were utilized towards food

items, water and shelter. A Tent Village was also set up for 100

families at Sehwan. Generators amounting to

approximately 30 million were also donated.

• GSWC Fund RaiserThe German Speaking Women’s Club Karachi

(GSWC) holds a fund raiser each year to raise funds for projects like

SOS Children’s Village

Child Aid foundation and other charitable projects. Siemens is usually happy to be part of this annual

fund raiser which not only provides many hours of entertainment but also invaluable resources for the underprivileged in society

Siemens Donates to Pakistan Navy Women Association

• Pakistan Navy Women Association (PNWA) is also one of the beneficiaries

• Support to low paid naval staff members, retired members and to those who died in the services for Pakistan. Such cause gets funded through fund generating events each year.

Risk Management

• Bring sustainability in projects systematic and comprehensive risk management is important to identify those potential risks, assess them and ensure appropriate control measures.

• The Managing Board specified the risk management policy focusing on the goal going concern aspects of the business and increasing the value of the company while attempting to control potential risk and also identifying business opportunities.

• Siemens Internal Auditing Unit also monitors the performance of risk management system at regular intervals.

• Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) which is a comprehensive view of risk from both operational and strategic perspective offers them more effective risk management at potentially lower cost.

At Siemens Risk Management is the top priority in all business processes.

• The CRIC (Corporate Risk and Internal Control Committee ) committee gets information about the risk and potential opportunities on sector, cross sector business levels or from the head of the corporate department and than report to the Board .

• Effective Risk Management works effectively with a strong internal control system. Risk that is identified may indicate some lacking in internal control system that can be overcome by implementing new controls and monitoring them.

Siemens Pakistan joined hands with Metro Cash & Carry Pakistan (Private) Limited and

signed a “Multiparty Compliance Declaration” based on prevention of unfair competition, corruption, money laundering and other criminal acts in the area of white

collar crime.

• Pakistan was represented by its Mega City Karachi will be assessed on the following environmental basis:

• Energy supply and CO2 emissions• Transportation• Buildings and land use• Water• Sanitation• Waste• Air Quality• Green Governance, which is a systematic life-cycle that

helps the organization drive towards sustainability.

• Siemens has the world largest environmental portfolio of energy-efficient and climate-friendly technologies. In fiscal year 2009 the company generated about 23 billion pounds from product and solutions in its environmental portfolio that contributing approximately 30 percent of the company’s total revenue. Unfortunately Pakistan lies at the bottom most position in the Asian Green City Index.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude we can say that Siemens is involved in CSR activities not only in Pakistan but also globally.

• Siemens view sustainability as a strategic task that integrates the three dimensions of the world social, environmental and economic to create long term value for the company and the stakeholders.

• In Pakistan Siemens corporate responsibility is based on three pillars :

• a) Making Pakistan a cleverer

• b) healthier

• c) more enjoyable place.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• Siemens should allocate a particular budget (amount or percentage) for performing CSR activities on annual basis.

• Siemens should reserve some amount for CSR activities so when there is an economic crisis in a country. Siemens is able to keeping running its CSR initiatives.
