Welch, Jo Hughes

Carola Elliott, Judy Goodman, Iain Freeman, Doug Ingram, Jan & Cliff Mitchell, John Jordan,
and wondered if this might be of interest for the Family Day – Jo to speak to Jo Weir.
Calendar of Events – See Actions. It was agreed that with the Ombersley Family Day
(Dementia Awareness Week), St Andrew’s Church Fete (24/6) and Ombersley School
Summer Fete (1/7) were key ‘annual events’ for the Ombersley DAA to continue to raise
awareness and promote the Village’s campaign. The group are still interested in the
possibility of organising a ‘Memory Walk’, and the Society’s Cupcake Day (15/6) and Elf
Day (December) were also discussed. Birmingham Velo (September) was also
suggested as a possible opportunity (post the meeting) as the route is passing through
Ombersley (See Actions)
Awareness Raising – Community Dementia Friends Sessions - There have been no
Dementia Friends sessions since the last meeting (See Actions)
Review of Ombersley’s Action Plan and Actions (See Actions)
Ombersley School Sensory Garden – Caroline provided the group with an update on
progress. Lesley asked whether there was any links between the garden and the
‘Ombersley remembers the WW1 Homefront’ project
Vulnerable Adults/ Safeguarding Training – Robert advised that several members of
the church had recently attended a Vulnerable Adults Safeguarding session
Memorial Hall Café – Lesley advised that, following discussions at the meeting on
13/02, there is still support and interest for hosting an initial café at Memorial Hall for
anybody (not just people affected by dementia) that wants to drop in and have a chat
and to look at possible funding for a more regular event (See Actions)
Rural Deanery of Droitwich – Jo provided an update on her follow-up meeting with Rev
Sheila Banyard on 22/02
Herbert Protocol – The group were very keen to support raising awareness of the
Herbert Protocol within the Village (see Actions)
Dementia Friendly Village Signage – Discussions were held about the feasibility of
having a ‘Dementia Friendly Village’ sign underneath the current ‘Welcome to Ombersley
Village’ signs to provide a ‘visual representation’ of the focus/ activity that is taking place
within the community. Need to assess the feasibility with the Parish Council and
Conservation Trust as well as clarifying with the DFC Team at what point the Village
would be able to start using such a sign (would it be after the submission and approval of
its 12 month update in November 2017 – See Actions)
Future Development of the
Ombersley DAA
Following confirmation that Jo’s role
has been extended until the end of
June, discussions were held
regarding the future development of
the Ombersley DAA. Jo advised
that there has yet to be any local
response to the DAA Volunteer role
(and asked people to promoted the
role) but the comments were from
the group that, as individuals they
are already busy with other
commitments/ committees/ community activities etc. and they felt that the Ombersley
DAA needs a ‘driving force’ and a regular ‘involvement’ from the Society
Additional Updates
Involvement of local people living
with dementia - Jo advised the group
that a SbS questionnaire had recently
been sent to the office from a person
living with dementia in the local area.
The response echoed previous
responses received from Kidderminster
and Evesham in that we ‘need to raise
awareness of the scale of the issue’.
Jo has contacted the person to see if
they would be interested in supporting
Ombersley’s campaign in some way
Conservation Trust Monies – there has been no recorded expenditure (the possibility of
using this funding for signage was discussed)
Jo provide a brief update on news/ developments for other local communities
Date of Next Meeting
It was agreed that a key focus for the next meeting should be planning for the Ombersley
Family Day (Jo to invite Jo Weir who is leading on the event from the Society’s
perspective). Date of the meeting subsequently confirmed for:
o Thursday 6th April – 10.30am – Coach House Offices
