He was awarded a scholarship to the Philadel- phia College of Art upon graduaon, a tesment to his perserverance. Born in Philadelphia in 1939, Pinkney’s family supported his interest in art throughout his childhood, and life. Pinkney’s wordless The Lion & The Mouse was the 2010 Caldeco Medal Winner.
