2. NATIONAL THERMAL POWER CORPORATION 3. INTRODUCTION NTPC was established in 1975. Situated 60 kms away from Delhi in the District ofGautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Largest thermal power generating company of India. Contributes more than 3 / 5th of the total powergeneration in India. Ranked 317th in Forbes Global 2000 ranking of theworlds biggest companies. It has both thermal plant and gas plant of 1820 MW and829 MW respectively. Plant Size Stage-1: 4 units of 210 MW. Stage-2: 2 unit of 490 MW. 4. Layout Of Thermal Power Plant 5. Coal Handling Plant Wagon Unloading System Vibrators Conveyor Crusher Coal Storage Yard 6. Wagons from the coal yardcome to the tippler and areemptied here. The process is performedby a slip ring motor ofrating: 55 KW, 415V, 1480RPM. This motorturns thewagon by 150 degrees andcoal falls directly on theconveyor through vibrators. 7. Conveyors are made of rubberand more with a speed of 250-300m/min.Conveyor Motors employed for conveyorshas a capacity of 150 HP. Conveyors have a capacity ofcarrying coal at the rate of 400tons per hour. The conveyor belt has a switchafter every 25-30 m on bothsides so stop the belt in case ofemergency 8. Plants use TATA crusherspowered by BHEL Motors. Crusher The crusher is of ring type andmotor ratings are 400 HP - 606KV. Crusher is designed to crushthe pieces to 20 mm size i.e.practically considered as theoptimum size of transfer viaconveyor. 9. Coal Storage Yard 10. Raw coal is fed directly to these RC Bunkerbunkers.These are 6 in no. per boiler. 4 & tons of coal are fed in 1hr.The Bunkers consist ofCylindrical portion of 16mheight & Conical portion of 8mdepth 12. RC Feeder It feed coal to boiler. Due to impact of ball on coal and attraction as per theparticles move over each other as well as over the Armorlines, the coal gets crushed. Large particles are broken by impact and full grinding isdone by attraction. The Drying and grinding operations takes placesimultaneously inside the mill. 13. Mill FansInduced Draft Fans: Each I.D. Fan is provided withinlet regulating vanes (IGVs) forcontrolling the loading on fansand inlet and outlet shut-offdampers for isolation to facilitatestartup and maintenance of fan ID Fan mainly consists of asuction chamber, inlet vanecontrol assembly, impeller, outletguide vane assembly, diffuserbearings and flexible coupling 14. FORCED DRAUGHT FAN The rotor is accommodated in cylindrical roller bearings. For controlling the bearing temperature, there are contact tele-thermometers connected to signaling instruments. An oil hydraulic servomotor flanged to the impeller and rotating with it, adjusts the blades during operation. PRIMARY AIR FAN Each boiler is provided with 2 Nos. of PA fans, each fan being capable ofcatering total air requirement of 3 mills. Fans are of radial type with single entry and horizontal orientation. A control lever is connected to the ring, which can be operated by apneumatic actuator. 15. It is a closed vessel in whichwater under pressure is convertinto steam.Boiler Hot water or steam used totransfer heat to a process. A boiler is always designed toabsorb max amount of heatreleased in process ofcombustion. Furnace:- It is primary part ofboiler where the fuel is burnt toliberate the heat energy. 16.
