SHSM

stands for

Specialist High Skills Major

Page 4: SHSM in a nutshell

At BDHS, we have 2 kinds of SHSM!

Perhaps you’ve already heard about the

SHSM in Construction…

This year we have the SHSM in

Transportation, as well.

Page 5: SHSM in a nutshell

SHSM

Students specialize in Construction or Transportation oriented courses, no matter if they plan to go on

to work to an apprenticeship to college or to university

Page 6: SHSM in a nutshell

Here’s how it works!

In Grades 11 and 12, SHSM students take a total of 11 courses that are partly or entirely devoted to their major – either Construction

or Transportation.

Page 7: SHSM in a nutshell

Of course, Construction and Design Technology courses are compulsory for Construction. In a

Transportation SHSM, you need to take 4 Transportation Tech credits.

And a Co-op placement at a Construction or Transportation placement is also a must.

Page 8: SHSM in a nutshell

Even the other compulsory courses like Math and English have Construction or

Transportation components in them

Page 9: SHSM in a nutshell

Here are a couple of different Construction

pathways…
