Duringthe2016StartWithHelloWeek,PolandLocalSchoolDistrictsinOhioorganized18Skypesessionsbetweentheirstudentsandsevenneighboringschoolsdistricts.TheSkypesessionswereheldintheclassroominordertoassurestudentswithineachclasshadanopportunitytoexplorethetopicofsocialisolationandhowdoreachoutandconnecttoreducesocialisolationwithintheirclassroomsandschools.Studentswerethenabletoconnectwithneighboringschools,somerepresentinggeneration-longrivalriesinsportsandacademics,andspreadtheStartWithHellomessage.Classesstartedbysayinghelloandthenfacilitatedanopendialogueaboutsocialisolationandbrainstormedstrategiestoreachoutandcreateconnectednesswithintheirschoolsandacrosscommunities.

ThePsychologyHonorSociety(PHS)atJohnA.FergusonHighSchoolinMiami,Floridacametogethertodevelopactivitiestoinvolvetheentirestudentbodyof4,000studentsinStartWithHelloWeek.OnMondayofStartWithHelloWeek,thegroupof15PHSClubmembersorganizeda"HeyDay”byarrivingtoschoolby6:30AManddistributing“Hello,mynameis:”stickerstostudentssothatall4,000studentscouldgreeteachotherbytheirfirstnames.OnTuesday,thePHSClubalsobuilta“WallofPositivity”wherestudentscouldwriteencouragingwordstoothers.OnWednesday,theClubengagedinconversationswithanyonesittingaloneduringlunchandrecruitedotherstudentstojointhemintheireffortstoreducesocialisolation,usingthesixdifferenticebreakerideasprovidedinthe"StartwithHello"presentation.OnThursday,thePHSCluborganizedamixedgradesocialwithascavengerhunt.Thiseventtookplaceafterschoolinthecafeteria.PHSmembersandotherstudentsfromtheschoolcametothissocialtomeetnewpeople.OnFriday,theCluborganizeda“SpeedFriend-ing”activitywherestudentsgottoengageinconversationwithatotalstrangerfortwominutesinordertoencouragepeerinteractionandmeetnewfriends.Duringthisday,studentswereencouragedtowearagreenshirtinsupportofSandyHookPromise.

During2016StartWithHelloWeek,MadisonYouthGroupinRexburg,IdahoaskedtheirCityleadersforhelpgettingthewordout.Cityleaders,includingtheMayor,businessownersandcivicleadershelpedgetlocalbusinessestoparticipateandhangStartWithHellomaterialsovertown,includingchangingthemarqueesofbusinessesintoStartWithHellomessages,eventheMcDonald’ssignssaid,“Hello,Rexburg!”Over40citypersonnel,includingpolice,water,garbage,citycouncilandfirefightersjoinedtheschoolforStartWithHelloactivities.ThelocalelectedofficialsalsosignedaStartWithHelloWeekproclamationinRexburgthatwascoveredinthelocalmedia.Oneofthestudentscommented:“IfeltlikethewholecityofRexburgwasunitingandsayingtothepeoplewhofeltunheardandalonethattheywerenoticed,thattheymattered,andtheydeserveeverythingtheworldcanofferthem."Themorethatpeoplewereinvolvedintheplanningandimplementation,themoreexcitedtheyweretoseeStartWithHelloWeekhappen.
