I. INTRODUCTION

WHO is a non-political specialized health agency.

It is established on 7th. April.1948.Its headquarter is at Geneva, Switzerland.

II. Objective of who

• The objective of WHO is “the attainment by all people’s of the highest level of health” which is set our in the preamble of the constitution.

• The current objective of WHO is “the attainment by all people of the world a level of health that will permit them to lead a socially and economically productively life”.

THE PREAMBLE OF THR CONSTITUTIONAL STATES

• Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

• The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental right of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic and social condition.

• The health of all people is fundamental to the attainment of peace and security and is dependent upon the fullset cooperation of individual and states.

• Unequal development in different countries in the promotion of health and control of disease, especially communicable diseases is a common danger.

• Healthy development of the child is of basic importance; the ability to live harmoniously in a changing total environment is essential to such development.

• The extension to all people of the benefit of medical, psychology and related knowledge is essential to such development.

• Informed opinion and active cooperation on the part of the public are of the utmost importance in the improvement of the health of the people.

• Government have a responsible for health of their people which can be fullfilled only by the provision of adequate health and social measures.

III. MEMBERSHIP

• Membership open for all countries.

• Territories can be associate member.

• 1948 -.>56 members.• 1996-> 190 members.

IV . ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTUREa) The World Health assembly:• “Health Parliament” of nation.• “Supreme governing body” of the organization.• Annual meeting on May in Geneva.

• Main function- -To determine the international health policy and

programmes. -To review the work of the past year. -To approves the budget needed for the following year. -To elect member for executive board and replace retired

member.

b) The Executive board:• Members are ‘Technically qualified in the field of health’.• Had originally 18 members, Increased to 31

members(1976) and now 34 member.• One-third of member renewed yearly.• Meeting in January and May.

• Main work- -Give effect to decession and policies -Power to action in emergencies.

c) The Secretariat:• Headed by General Director.• 8000 member (2010).

• Primary function- -Provide member state with technical and

managerial support for their national health development programmes.

V. FUNCTION OF WHO1. Directing and co-ordinating health programmes

throughout the world.2. Preventing and control of communicable and

other specific diseases.3. Helping member countries in their health

programmes and development of health services, providing more emphasis on the development of infrastructure.
