In our third semester in Winterthur we were supposed to design a one family house with a separate guest house in Malans (Graubnden) and use the materials from the area. The topography was very steep and it made the design of the house complicated which led to the placement of the cellar on the street level and the main entrance to the house on the first floor with two outside seating places and all semi-private rooms like living room, kitchen and tv-room. Two outside seating areas and an atelier with a small guest house are at the same niveau. On the second floor we find the mas-ter bedroom with a balcony, the childrens bedrooms and a library with connection to a loggia which over-views the village of Malans.

After a seminar in Venice, Italy and a visit in Chioggia (a former fishermans island which is now abandoned)the exercise of this semester was to build a new small self sustainable village with a promenade and a crust towards Venice. In groups of four we had to organize and design our lots with a common green area for our residents. Italys famous arcades and terracotta col-ors inspired the design of the building. The wet under-ground and the humid climate didnt allow us to build cellars which lead to small private compartments on the ground floor and a party room with a covered seat-ing area near the water. The floors one and three are identical as are the floors two and four. The fifth floor is a luxury floor with only two big apartments and a roof top terrace for all residents.

Located in the city of St. Gallen where the famous fair of OLMA takes place we had to design a new exhibi-tion center with a congress center on the upper floor and a restaurant. A separate office building which is connected to the exhibition center and inhouses of-fices had to be attached to the main building. For the first time we had to plan the whole supporting frame-work and the building services like heating, cooling and cross ventilation. The warehouses are locadet on the lower levels as is the parking garage which is connected to the already existing garage from another hall. The visual difference between the main exhibition cen-ter (concrete) and the office building (wood paneling) was chosen to differentiate the two.

Our Bachelorproject was again located in the city of St. Gallen in Switzerland near the OLMA exhibition area. We had to design a community center with a public swimming pool, a fitness center and a restau-rant with an open public area in front complementary to the new sports hall across the street. The lot was triangular which made it very hard to design a building which would fit fluently and inhouse an olimpic swim-ming pool and two childrens pools. To solve the supporting framework and the building services was a big part of the excercise. My design- a snake-like building which is different on the ground floor and on the upper floor- tries to fit into the lot and to use as much of it as possible but also it tries to open towards the new sports hall and the el-ementary school.

Parting between urban and natural spaces, places of consumption, life and production is increasingly pro-blematic for territory planning. The idea of local food production began to be important when the big cities started to explode. Regional production of food could solve a lot of problems. It could be a way to educate and employ homeless people and to inform children about food and the diet they should consume to pre-vent obesity and health issues. Introducing domestic animals into the neighborhood could also be a way of recreation or solve a lot of other problems. Hens could produce eggs, goats could give milk and cheese amd clear the weeds, horses can be used for recreation and fishes could be cultivated in fish ponds and sold with the vegetables on the local farmers markets.

Istanbul with its 14 million people (official number) faces a very big challenge where to house new resi-dents which are coming to this very important node city constantly from all party of Turkey. Due to last earth quake in november 2011, the question has been raised whether it is safe for people who house in in-formal settlements in the center city to stay there. The goal of IMP (Istanbul Metropolitan Planning Office) is to rehouse 1-4 million people in the following years and release the tension that has been existing in Istanbuls center.

The goal of our project was to create a new city which is self- governed and doesnt depend on the main city. Eventhough the idea was to produce enough work places we, connected the transportation systems to Istanbuls existing train, bus, ferry and high-way systems. The 4 big lakes on our site are reservoirs to catch water because Istan-bul has been facing water shortages over the past years. We also wanted to preserve as much of the existing natural forests and agro-forests and add more agricultural land to this problematic site due to exploitations from coal mining.

CATCHMENT GUTTER
FRAME
Fog catchment is an innovative way to provide more water in countries with water deficiencies. This idea was introduced by the Canadian volonteer organization Fog Quest which opera-tes since 1987. The idea is to buy very inexpensive meshes which are made from recycled nylon from all over the world and spann it into a frame with a gutter and either spann the whole construction between trees or put it like a sign in an area known for a lot of foggy days. The fog is being caught in the mesh and the fresh water drops down the mesh to the catchment gutter which is connected with a catchment tank. Each mesh can catch around 200 liters of water on a foggy day.
