I know a lot of you haven’t been reading these newsletters, so if you’re reading this, you’re on top of your game! This month’s newsletter is pretty casual, but it has a lot of information that you should take with you to your clubs at that first Key Club meeting!

There is information regarding the Students Change Hunger campaign, Fall Rally, DUES, and other up-dates that will be affecting not only the division, but the entire district! I was able to train my last school, Se-caucus, this summer, but I still need to train two more officers at the next DCM that’s coming up soon! Like how all of you attend DCMs, I also have to attend board meetings, except, I probably travel a lot further than all of you, haha! A lot of different things were discussed at the board meeting, so skim through the newsletter and find out the updates!!

Mentioned in my previous newsletter, but only briefly, please keep in mind the Dues Increase!! International dues have gone up, so the overall dues price has gone up as well! Check out the flyer above!

I want to thank everyone for still maintaining contact with me throughout the summer! I hope to see all of you at my upcoming Divisional Council Meeting! Check out the date and other important dates to mark on your calendar on the Save the Date page!!

At this point in time, I have held formal Officer Training Conferences with each school! Although, not all officers have been trained yet, I figured now would be a good time to recap on the things we discussed since school will be starting in about 2 weeks

The manuals I gave you are all extremely useful tools if for some reason you can’t reach me. If you ever feel confused as what you should be doing, you can always refer back to the manuals! In each of the manuals, there is a breakdown of tasks that you should be completing throughout your term. Granted, some may not apply to you because each club works a little bit differently. Because they were printed front and back, I have some of the information you guys should have because it was on the other side of your contracts. If you would like for me to take a picture of it and send it to you, please contact me!

Since I trained all of you based off the manuals, I will be re-capping the Distinguished Officer Award requirements.

A lot of things are taken into consideration, and I am not allowed to reveal too much. So I only really told all of you the events and meetings that you are asked to attend.

DCON—a weekend trip that celebrates Key Club new year and where District Executive elections take place.

Fall Rally—the largest gathering of NJ Key Clubbers in the district at 6 Flags Great Adventure! Look through the news-letter for more information!! Coming up in October!

RTCs—Regional Training Conferences. Will be held in Sep-tember! Look through the newsletter for more information!

OTCs—A lot of you already attended this, so yay! Points!

DCM—A minimum number of 5 will be held throughout my term as LTG. Please make it your best effort to attend the majority, if not all. You should be aiming for all of them!

Officer Training Conferences

On August 16th, the New Jersey District Board gathered at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick to discuss updates on each individual division and future events! Did you know that each LTG even gets report cards from the Executive Board? A big focus during this meeting was KEY LEADER. I explained this event to the majority of you during your Officer Training Conferences. We are trying to in-crease the number of people who attend this event because lately, the admission count has been dropping. If you are interested in learning more about leadership qualities or hope to run for a district position in the future, then this is the event for you! Contact me or the Key Leader Ambassador, James Abbaticchio if you have any questions on it!

Did you know that KCI has a certain connection to the Children’s Special-ized Hospital? Turns out that years ago, we donated A LOT of money to the construction of the building!!

Service is the foundation of Key Club International and Key Clubs have successfully been changing the world through service since its beginning. Every year clubs brainstorm ways they can change their homes, schools and com-munities. Clubs often come up with great ideas but their club lacks the funds to get it started. However, do not lose hope! The Youth Opportunities Fund is here for Key Clubs to utilize. This fund is created by the purchasing of G. Harold Martin Fellowships. The fund allows Key Clubs to serve the world by providing grants for service opportuni-ties. In order to receive this grant, your club must find a problem in the community that you all want to fix. You have to organize how you will do it and how the funds will be used. Your club is then ready to fill out the applica-tion! Grants range from $100-$2000.

For example, the North Crowley Key Club in Fort Worth Texas was able to have a very successful project with their $450 YOF grant. As they were searching ways to change the world through service they realized a problem in their local elementary schools. The lack of funds going towards art there left kids with few opportunities to be creative. What did they do? They started planning and received their grant. They used their grant to buy art supplies which they used at Barnes & Noble’s Saturday morning story times every week. They would lead the kids in craft that re-lated to the story. With their art supplies, the club was also able to host a citywide arts and crafts art fair. Members also donated supplies to an urban elementary school with no art budget and sent craft donations to children living in Appalachia. The club continues to their weekly craft at Barnes & Noble. This club was very successful in changing the values of art in their community!

On July 12, 2014, New York District Division 11 Key Club held its 4th Annual July Divisional Barbecue. This was one of the more exhilarating division meetings since there was food and more people. I had the opportunity to interact with people from many parts of the district, many of which whom were District officers. There were piles of hot dogs and hamburgers available for everyone who at-tended. During this five hour long barbecue, we were able to interact with others and play games such as a three-legged race and volleyball. Everyone at the event was really open to meeting others and many even joined in to play volleyball together. Finally, towards the end of the event, we had the Officer Auction where one can bid for an offi-cer. Whichever person bid the highest received a bag of water balloons and two bottles of silly string to sabotage the District officer. Overall, this event was fun mainly be-cause I was able to converse with different people who I would probably never see throughout the year. Also, this event was able to raise $530 towards the Eliminate Pro-ject, which is one of the International Projects for Key Club.

During this year’s summer vacation, High Tech High School’s Key Club had a small social event on the 26th of July, in NYC. One of our members and newly appointed Web Master, Kellen Dorio had a recent birthday that we wanted to celebrate, and so on that beautiful Saturday af-ternoon, a small group of Key Club officers and members went out to lunch in the Chelsea Market and then headed to the High Line to observe some spectacular views. Our meals were delicious, and the company was even better. It was lovely seeing everyone together and laughing at the silly jokes made. This get-together was a perfect way to see many people just a few weeks after school had ended. Af-ter the festivities were complete, we roamed the New York City streets stopping for ice cream and gelato. With our sweet treats we headed home, but not before taking a few pictures to always remember our amazing experience to-gether.

Hey everyone how’s it going? Key Club is busy all year around and the North Bergen Key Club is no different. During the beginning of this August we completed a summer project! Along with the art department we sought to promote school spirit and improve our school's atmosphere. We decided repaint a wall in our cafeteria and paint a mural on it. A total of ten different people showed up across three days in order to assist us. While the key club painted the wall red and did the let-tering, Celeste Izquierdo, an art student, painted an amazing bear on the wall. The end result was as great as we could’ve hoped for. The reactions from faculty and students have been great so far! When the school year begins we are sure the entire student body will really love the new wall. NBHS Key Club really hopes to con-tinue to work really hard and have more successful pro-jects like this one. Let’s go Key Club!

Tenakill Swim Club’s Carnival Night!

Earlier this summer, the Tenafly Key Club had the op-portunity to participate in an annual event at our town's pool: Tenakill Swim Club's Family Night. Each year, they hold a Family Night to celebrate summer, and this year's theme was a carnival night. The evening consisted of swimming, a barbecue, dancing, and lots of fun carni-val games for children and parents alike! Key Clubbers had the duty of running different booths and giving out prizes to participants. We also got to lead big dances to popular songs on the dance floor! It really was a very fun event that we, the Tenafly Key Club, we're happy to be apart of. Tenafly Key Club's Treasurer, Kiana Lim very much enjoyed the event say-ing, "Everyone had fun who went. The Key Club even learned how to face paint and make balloon animals!" All in all, it was a great way for members of our Key Club to reconnect over the summer and help at this event full of fun, laughs, and of course, Key Club spirit! - Colin Colchamiro, Secretary of Tenafly of NJ

Are you ready to Get Animated with Service at Fall Rally 2014? What is Fall Rally? Fall Rally is the largest gather-ing of NJ Key Clubbers to motivate Key Clubbers to have a great rest of the service year. This year Fall Rally will be on Oc-tober 12th at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson New Jer-sey. In the wee hours of the morning you and your Key Club will travel to the amusement park to meet about 3,000 Key Clubbers from across New Jersey! Get ready to see the NJ Dis-trict Board dress up as your favorite animated characters rang-ing from Aang to Wanda! Get ready to learn all about what the New Jersey District is doing ranging from Eliminate up-dates, Advocacy information, dues, and different district events during the session!

Another highlight of the event will be the spirit stick competition! Every division will have to prove how ready they are for the service year as the cheer their heads off hoping to be the loudest division in the district! The winner will win the honorable spirit stick!

The day does not have to end with this fun session! Clubs have the option to explore the park and go on the rides before the park officially opens! Your club will also has the option to stay for Fright Fest.

Although Fall Rally is on October 12th, Key Clubs should start preparing now! You should be sure to stress the importance of attending Fall Rally from the start of the school year and then talk to your current Lieutenant Governor or any District Board member about how many people your club will be taking to Fall Rally or if there is a issue or concern regard-ing transportation , etc. Fall Rally is great way to get to know people who share the same passion for service as you, meet the members of the New Jersey District Board, and have lots of fun!
