It hasn’t been long since the last issue of Shinterest was released, and it hasn’t been long since I met up with a lot of you at the Divisional Council Meeting. A lot of you should have noticed by now, but just to play cap-tain obvious, I have adapted a new layout for my newsletter. I’m hoping the change will pique your interest a little bit more, and make the newsletter more entertaining to read. I hope you all have been enjoying your summers! I myself recently attended my church retreat at the Hudson Valley Resort, and was amazed at how many updates there were when I got back. ICON happened recently and a lot of information was given throughout the week. Please check out the article to find out about the CHANGE IN DUES , the new Inter-national Trustees, and much more!

DON’T FORGET, this newsletter is jam-packed with information ESSENTIAL TO YOU AND YOUR CLUB. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me! Club Spotlight!

As promised, a school will be highlighted in my news-letter as often as possible. This issue it’s Secacus Key Club! They are an outstanding club that always man-ages to fill their CMRFs with at least one service pro-ject, and they are one of the larger clubs in our divi-sion. Along side Tenafly Key Club, Secaucus Key Club is a DIAMOND LEVEL DISTINGUISHED CLUB fully recognized by international! A plaque was pre-sented during ICON and is currently sitting in my house. (Tenafly received one as well, but this is a Se-caucus Key Club spotlight, so I will be keeping the light on them).

Some goals they have for the upcoming service year are…

Bring the club even closer as a family

Have more events involving other Key Clubs

Basically help the community in any needed way

If you haven’t guessed by now, the District Programs (DP) Committee releases a new article/flyer every month for all of you to see and use to your discretion! They are responsible for choosing the ADVOCACY FOCUS every service year, and this year, the focus is HUNGER IN THE US. This month, they decided to release a statistics flyer with some ideas as to how your club can help combat this serious is-sue! There are people suffering in other countries, and we certainly shouldn’t ne-glect them, but let’s also not forget our fellow people here in the states. Let’s better our communities by feeding a hungry neighbor, or neighbors!

Salutations Key Clubbers!

At this year’s International Convention in Anaheim, California, there were several workshops presenting progress and fundraising ideas for the Eliminate Project. Here are some amazing statistics:

So far, with your efforts, Key Club International has raised $856,320

That is a total of over 425,000 lives saved since the campaign started. Congrats, Key Clubbers!

Most recently, Madagascar eliminated MNT, meaning there are now 24 coun-tries still afflicted with MNT

The Eliminate Project has set a $1.5 million goal for Key Club International; to reach this goal, every member would need to donate just $2!

In total, the Eliminate Project needs to raise $110 million to ultimately rid the world of tetanus.

These seem like impossible goals to reach. However, with your efforts, the end of tetanus by 2015 is sure to come. Below are some inventive projects that are sure to bring in big bucks:

18,000: Every day, 18,000 children die of preventable diseases. So what can we do to help? One inventive idea is to take duct tape and write out a big 18,000 on the ground in your local park or courtyard. The objective is to fully cover the duct tape with change. As people walk by, educate them on the Eliminate Pro-ject, and ask them to donate change. This is a great way to raise awareness and to fundraise.

Give-something-up Day: Encourage fellow Key Clubbers to give up their daily cup of coffee or lunch from Chipotle, and donate the money saved to the Elimi-nate Project.

Carnation/Flower sales: these are always popular. Talk to a local florist and see if you can get some flowers donated for free or discounted price. Sell them for a profit!

Welcome to the ICON Recap section!!

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend,

but the majority of the District Board was

able to! Thanks to my best friend, other-

wise known as the District Secretary of

NJ Jacqueline Dragon, I have been

given updates as to what went on!

Warning: the descriptions written on this

page may not match the pictures on

page 6. Nonetheless, the updates are

IMPORTANT.

There are a total of 33 Districts and

11 International Trustees. Each

trustee looks over 3 Districts. For

the 2013-2014 service year, the NJ

District was under the care of

Madison Kemker.

District Governor Sam Levisay rocked

the Tomato suit at Meet and Greet!

Why the tomato suit? The NJ District

mascot is Tito the Tomato! Why? Be-

cause we’re the GARDEN STATE. Get

it?

Meet and Greet is a set time where

Key Clubbers are allowed to go

around and meet other Key Clubbers

from AROUND THE WORLD.

One of the guys in this photo is none other than our es-

teemed District Treasurer, Daniel McCormack. He’s in

charge of making sure everyone in the district pays their

dues!

Speaking of which, International Dues have been in-

creased to $7. In total, dues are now $12.50.

Divisional Council Meeting (DCM) Breakdown

Just a few weeks ago, some of you attended the first Divisional Council Meeting of the 2014-2015 service year that took place at the Starbucks in Hackensack. I would first like to thank everyone who took time off of their summer va-cation to attend. If you were unable to attend, have no fear, for the Recap...was already sent out to all of you. Check your emails! If you didn’t receive it, let me know! This article is just a general breakdown of DCMS: the things that will happen at every single one. So if you wish to be able to prepare beforehand, keep these in mind!

- Attendance was taken, and is kept throughout the entire service year. There will be AT LEAST 5 DCMs happening throughout my term as LTG. The sign-in sheets and recap documents help me to keep track at the end of the service year which officers fulfilled their requirement of attending at least half of the DCMs. So if you were unable to attend this one, no sweat. Just try to attend the next ones!

- Club Reports is a way for not just me, but for the entire division to know what’s happening in our surrounding clubs. The highest ranking officer present at the DCM will represent their club by giving a status report as to what their club has been up to since the last DCM. Presidents, if you know that you will be unable to attend, make sure your other officers know what’s going on so that they can properly fill us all in on what’s going on! This is also the time to ask for help if needed!

- the Middle: this would be the main body paragraphs in an essay. Any updates from the district or international or from myself are given at this point. Make sure your ears are perked, because everything I give at this point directly af-fects your clubs!

- Announcements: final things that I would like to say

- Open Floor: any questions, comments, concerns, or requests may happen at this point. I have been talking for most of the time at this point, so I want to hear from you guys!
