They're dishonest, selfish, smelly, naughty and well, a whole lot of fun. That's how. Songs have been written for them, blockbuster movies made about them and, good or bad, have become an enduring part of our culture. They also make terrific subjects for a musical comedy. This is one of the funniest ones I have ever been a part of, written by two giants of the vocal music world, Roger Emerson and John Jacobsen. The following students will have speaking parts on stage: Please note that both cast members listed by name above need to come to both performance nights, April 30 and May 2, in case a cast member is ill or absent. Each cast member is having their costume provided for their performance on stage; chorus members not on stage need to find a costume on their own. Rick Reynolds, General Music Specialist April 2019

AHHCHOO! COLD vs FLU:
WHEN to KEEP YOUR CHILD
at HOME
Although flu (influenzia) and colds
are both respiratory illness, they’re
caused by different viruses. Colds
may start with a little tickle in your
throat and it can take a few days for
you to experience the full onset of
symptoms. The flu hits hard and
fast. You may wake up feeling fine,
but by the end of the day you have
a fever, chills, and are completely
exhausted.
PREVENTION
1) HANDWASHING! And
LOTS of it!!—
Handwashing is #1 in
preventing the
transmission of disease.

PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTIONS OR CROSSWALKS
Since the risks are extremely high, it is always better to avoid taking chances at
intersections. It is simple; if you do not think, you have enough time or space to get through
without potentially blocking traffic—do not even attempt to do so. Not only will you prevent
frustration and possible retaliatory actions from through traffic, but you could prevent a
ticket or an accident. Stay safe, use good judgment, and try to think about the risks of your
actions before it is too late.
UNSURE OF THE LAW
State code 40-6-205 does offer a cut and dry rule: “No driver shall enter an intersection
unless there is sufficient space on the other side of the intersection to accommodate the
vehicle he is operating without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians,
notwithstanding any traffic-control signal indication to proceed.”
Drivers PLEASE stop before entering the crosswalk. If a crossing guard is entering or
standing in the roadway, avoid stopping in the crosswalk to keep it accessible and
unimpeded for pedestrians. The crosswalk guides children to cross in the most direct
manner and provides guidance for people with low vision.
BUS DRIVERS WANTED
Join our team of bus drivers! Make a difference in our scholars’ lives. We are looking for extraordinary team members who will strive to provide a safe and secure environment while showing a genuine interest in addressing each scholar’s unique needs.
We offer the following incentives to join our bus driver team:
Get paid $15 an hour to get your Commercial Driver's Lincense (CDL). $250 paid immediately after passing the CDL road test. An additional $250 paid after completing 45 work days with Federal Way Public
Schools.
A BIG I WAS CAUGHT
Goes to The Swain family for keeping our streets clean.
They spent a couple of hours on the weekend and cleaned up the street near the BPA trail.
They were tired of walking home and seeing all the trash on the side of the street.
Items that were the most commonly found were Taco bell wrappers and Popcorn bag wrappers.
Please help keep our streets clean by being responsible!
Science Fair is May 9th and We Still Need Judges!
The Sherwood Forest Annual Science Fair K-5 is on Thursday, May 9th and we look forward to seeing everyone’s Science
Fair presentation. Mrs. Tomlinson is having a Science Fair Club Help every Wednesday for grades K-5 during their lunch
recesses for any scholar that needs support with their Science Fair project.
This year we have Science Fair Boards available to purchase for $3.00. Please fill out a request form and send $3.00 into
the school. The board will be delivered to your child’s teacher. If a scholar is unable to purchase one, the PTA will
provide one. Please contact Linda Hultman at 206-251-3098 or email [email protected] for details.
Projects are to be completed at home and brought to school the morning of May 9th. Students will be given time to set-
up in the gym at specific times. The Science Fair will be open to parents and families from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on May 9th.
Visitors will have the opportunity to ask students about their projects, so students should be prepared to answer
questions, enjoy their project, and have fun with their presentation!
Thank you to Lauren Tomlinson for chairing this year’s science fair! It is not too late to be a judge, so if you are
interested please contact the office or Linda Hultman at 206-251-3098 or email [email protected] Thank you for
