SHEIKH ZAYED DESERT LEARNING CENTER & UAE WORLD DESERT Facts Project Description Turnkey contract for the construction of the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center and the UAE World Desert in Al Ain. The contract of this state-of-the-art exhibition building includes the sub and superstructure build-up area of 12,200m² as well as landscaping and road works. The Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center is located adjacent to the main entrance of the future Al Ain Wildlife Park Zoo. It will be a designated indoor attraction that will honor the legacy of Sheikh Zayed, the founding president of the UAE, and his visionary attitude to the environment, wildlife and conservation, provide a changing look at the natural and cultural history of the Arabian deserts, as well as deserts worldwide. The whole project will involve the redevelopment of the 40 year old Al Ain Zoo to include a wildlife themed safari, a destination resort, retail and residential communities. The project is a unique blend of components of a museum, gallery and a science facility that will promote nature, environment and its sustainability through interactive exhibits. The scope of work is limited to the World Desert Exhibit area, incl. a learning center, core visitor services and walkable zoological and botanical exhibits from the main deserts of the world. In addition to its architectural and spatial merits, the Sheik Zayed Desert Learning Center has been the first development to receive the highest five pearl design rating under the Emirate's sustainable building guidelines, Estidama. The project uses solar power, energy efficient windows and light fixtures. A systematic pre- cooling air conditioning is built as part of the project´s commitment to waste reduction and recycling where the air conditioning system takes air in and channels it underground to be naturally cooled down by the sand and soil.
