The housings are solid with bolted end covers, and are bolted and dowelled to the bearing brackets. The outboard bearing consists of two angular- contact type, matched bearings. In addition to carrying the radial load, it is capable of carrying thrust load in either direction. Its position in the housing is fixed. The inboard bearing is of the radial type, carries radial loads only and is free to move longitudinally in the housing to care for ex- pansion and contraction of the pump shaft and casing. Centrifugal Pumps
INGERSOLL-RAND UV, AIN, ALV, AFV, LFV, HLV, CFV and SM pumps are single-stage, cen-trifugal units of the horizontally split, volute type. Usually the rotor is mounted on ball bearings, but spherically-seated sleeve bearings with a Kings-bury-type thrust bearing are also available on the larger sizes.
These pumps are thoroughly modern, embodying new features of design which increase efficiency, insure reliability and lower maintenance cost. They may be used with any type of prime mover.
APPLICATION
These pumps are designed for general hydraulic service at low and medium heads.
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION
Casing is split on the horizontal centerline. Suc-tion and discharge nozzles and the pump feet are cast in the lower half. Side suction and discharge is standard, except on the 10SHV which has bot-tom suction and discharge. Bottom suction can be furnished on most of the larger sizes.
Rigid Shaft is of extra-heavy, high-quality, heat-treated, carbon steel. The shaft sleeves are keyed to the shaft and held in position longitu-dinally by external sleeve nuts, secured against reverse rotation. These nuts are packed to pre-vent shaft sleeve leakage. (Sizes 11/2, 2, 21/2 and 3 UV are not equipped with shaft sleeves, but have stainless steel shaft).

12 in. Class AFV pump.
Efficient Impellers are of the double-suction (except 11/2 and 21.TV which are single-suction), enclosed type cast in one piece. The impellers are sealed by a stationary casing ring and a revolving impeller ring (UV has casing ring only). The cas-ing ring has a tongue and groove flt in the casing with an offset flange to prevent rotation.
Ball Bearings are standard. The housings are solid with bolted end covers, and are bolted and dowelled to the bearing brackets.
The outboard bearing consists of two angular-contact type, matched bearings. In addition to carrying the radial load, it is capable of carrying thrust load in either direction. Its position in the housing is fixed. The inboard bearing is of the radial type, carries radial loads only and is free to move longitudinally in the housing to care for ex-pansion and contraction of the pump shaft and casing.

Both bearings are mounted in dirt-tight housings, which permit removal of the rotor without dis-turbing bearing adjustment or exposing the bear-ings to dirt or moisture. A positive locking nut and washer secures the outboard bearing against a shoulder on the shaft. Oil lubrication is standard except on UV, AUV; 30 ALV, 36 AFV, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 CFV which have grease lubrication.
Deep Stuffing Boxes are provided with water seal cages which are supplied with water from the discharge passage of the pump. When handling hot, gritty or corrosive liquids the seal can be ar-ranged to take water from an external source.
The stuffing box glands are of the two-piece, split type which can be entirely removed from the shaft to give the greatest accessibility in packing the box. A 12 AFV pump on cooling water service at a large refinery.
