Happy New Year!
The AKC has finally recognized the PSCA as a member club and the official
parent club of the breed. I’d like to thank the PSCA Board of Directors, past
and present, who were instrumental in the work that needed to be done as we
jumped through AKC hoops. Special thanks to Whitney Coombs who went to
bat for us whenever we needed him to, and Ann Shepard who can probably
recite the By-laws from memory for the number of times she had to resubmit
them to the AKC. Thanks to all of you, the members of this club!
Now that we are a member club, we are entitled to have representation at the
AKC delegate meetings. Nancy Coombs was appointed to be our delegate by a
unanimous decision of the board. After Nancy is approved by the AKC, she will
attend the quarterly delegate meetings and write a report to be published in
the Sheep Pen.
Karen Majka is working hard on this summer’s agility trials. She did an excellent
job of coordinating everything last year, so I know many of you are anxious to
attend again this year. I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed.
Soon you will be noticing some major improvements to the club website,
www.pyrshepclub.com. Joni Mooney-McKeown has volunteered her artistic
talent to make our site more pleasant to look at. One of the first improvements
she has made is adding an “Awards” page in order to give members who have
worked hard on club titles recognition that is long overdue. Members, who are
not familiar with the club’s award programs, should take a look at the website.
Your dog may already be qualified for a PSCA title.
The 2016 National Specialty plans are well underway. I am looking forward to
seeing some familiar faces and to meeting new ones. It’s guaranteed to be a
fun time. Make your plans now to attend. It is coming up fast.
Lastly, as their terms come to an end, I want to thank Sarah Herring, Karen
Majka, and Jean Pero for their years of service on the PSCA board. I am sure
that they will continue to be active members of the club. New board members
are, Debra Huff, Regina Libby, and Donna Whitham. I look forward to working

Just a reminder to save the date for the 2016 PSCA AKC Agility trial. It will be held June 17-19, 2016 at the Soccer SportsPlex in North Olmsted, OH. This is the same location as the 2015 trials and is on the southwest side of Cleveland. It has turf footing, A/C, on-site RV parking, and snack bar.
We will have goody bags with edible treats for both humans and their dogs, prizes (gift cards) for the Top Pyr Shep Std/JWW each day and a prize for the Top Pyr Shep of the 3 day weekend!! In remem-brance of Pam's 18 hour commute from Florida last year, this year we will have a gas card prize for the exhibitor who travels the furthest to the trial. More prizes will be announced closer to the date! The Red Roof in Westlake, OH is where several PSCA members stayed last time and it's just a few minutes from the shores of Lake Erie. The motel is popular with all agility exhibitors for this trial so make your reservations early!
Entries open April 20, 2016 (first received so enter promptly) and close on June 1, 2016. Judges are Mary Mullin and Sally Gichner. We will have Std, JWW, FAST and T2B. Thanks to everyone who volun-teered to be on the Trial Committee!!! I appreciate the help!
If any questions, email Karen Majka - Trial Chairman at
