Achievement Night is for all members to be recognized for their hard work for the 2014-2015 4-H year. The program will be November 14
th at Washburn Rural High School
doors open at 6pm and the program will start at 6:30pm. You will receive a formal invite in the mail if you were enrolled in 4-H online for the 2014-2015 year. New members in Oct. 2015 are invited to come as well!
To encourage youth to submit record books and to attend the program Events Council is sponsoring door prizes this year. The prizes will be a Kindle Fire, a Lego Minecraft Set and a bike! The door prize winners will be determined by a drawing at the conclusion of the program.
You have three ways to get your name into the drawing.
1.) Attend Achievement Night, you will get one entry just for coming. (You must be present to win a prize)
2.) Submit a non-competitive record book. Not only will this get you a Gold Award at Achievement Night but it is good for one more entry into the prize drawing. (You can do several non-competitive record books but you will still only get one entry)
3.) Submit a competitive record book. These books are judged on the county level and will also get you into the prize drawing. (You can do several competitive record books but you will only get one entry into the drawing.)
You can do all three of these things for a total of 3 chances at the door prizes. Each 4-H’er will only be allowed to win
one prize. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on Nov. 14th. There will be snacks and a dance after the program.
Wanted, Cookies and Brownies for Achievement Night!
The Achievement Night Refreshment Committee is asking families to donate two dozen cookies or a pan of brownies to serve at the Achievement Night
dance after the program.
Please bring your goodies with you to the event.
Thank You.

On October 4th 2015, the 4-H kick-off party was held at Reynolds Lodge in Topeka at
Shawnee Lake. It started at 2:00pm and ended at 4:00pm. Shawnee Co. 4-H Paw-Prints provided an agility course for dogs. People brought their dogs and had a fine time running them through the course. There were games out back and projects, snacks and a DJ in the shelter house. The projects were shown to help tell people what Riverside 4-H does. ~Reporter, Lauren Drum
Deer Trail Club
How are bunnies and quilts similar? Deer Trail members discovered three ways during the program at our monthly meeting on October 19
th. Two of our
members gave project talks that the whole club enjoyed.
Cora Stover spoke about the quilt she entered into the fiber arts category at the fair. The vibrantly colored ragtime quilt was covered with hearts and Cora’s initials. She explained that the hardest part was cutting the strips, lining up the pieces, and measuring the blocks and strips.
Sierra Nelson showed us her rabbit, Brody, a mini-rex with a broken otter color. Brody, though only a year old, has won multiple awards at the fair. Sierra has several other rabbits and will soon be the proud owner of several more. She loves all of her rabbits and plans to show them at future fairs.
So how are bunnies and quilts the same? Cora and Sierra both revealed that they’re soft, and they
each take a lot of hard work, but in the end they’re worth your while. ~Reporter, Blythe Landon

During the month of October, the Riverside 4-H Club went to Harvester's Food Bank for 48 hours of 4-H. This was our service project for the month. We had 27 members and adults come to fill backpacks full of food for hungry children across the state. We were able to pack 1,785 backpacks! This will ensure that kids across the state will get healthy meals to eat. We worked together and had a fun time doing it.
