EXPERIMENT 4 FLAME ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY (AAS)

BY:NUR SHUHADA NABILLANURUL AFIFANUR LAILINUR ATIELIARAIHAN IZZATIEXPERIMENT 4FLAME ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY (AAS)

Objectives:To learn how to operate a flame AAS instrument. To plot a standard calibration curve for determination of Ca in a sample. To determine the amount of Ca in a sample using the standard calibration curve.

Apparatus:BeakerDropperVolumetric flask, 50mLPipetteFunnel

Chemicals:Nitric acid, HNO3 (1%)Mineral waterDrinking waterTap water1000ppm stock solution

PROCEDURE

Preparation of standard solutions

A 5.00mL of 1000ppm stock solution was pipetted and transferred to 50.0mL volumetric flask.

The solution was diluted with HNO3 (1%) until the mark. The solution was labeled as 100ppm.

Using the 100ppm solution and a 50mL volumetric flask, a series of standard solutions was prepared by having the following concentrations: 1ppm, 2ppm, 3ppm, 4ppm, 5ppm

And unknown solution was obtained.

The absorbance of the standard solutions in (2) was measured followed by the unknown.
