SIMPLE OUTCOME-ORIENTED PRINCIPLES• Every family, school and clinic in targeted districts has access to water and sanitation.

• Institutional Models for establishing services for Everyone which can last Forever

• Financial Models, providing resources from multiple sources to meet, O&M, capital costs and direct costs for on-going services

• Outcomes monitored to verify results and help institutionalize capacity to adapt to problems that emerge.

• Success is defined as full coverage being sustained over time.

• Momentum at district level leads to allow a national push around the principles of Everyone Forever.

RE-IMAGINE REPORTING (RIR)

• The Re-imagine Reporting (RiR) platform designed to help the organization manage, visualize, and reflect on data. Essentially recognizing the reporting process as an opportunity to learn and improve, at the same time as providing a mechanism for Water For People to report on change within operational areas.

• So not just outputs and spending

• RiR brings together:Financial dataProgramme dataStaff & partner evaluations of programmes & rolesNarratives stories

RE-IMAGINE REPORTING (RIR)

ANNUAL IN-COUNTRY REFLECTIONS• Only three to date, but all have:

– Enabled stakeholders to see programmatic progress over time, in light of the target goals of full and lasting water and sanitation coverage

– Allowed them to make changes in programmatic strategy and financial investment to address weaknesses, setting priorities for the future

PRIORITIES MOVING FORWARD• Strengthening the WUAs in place, facilitating the establishment of

new WUAs in the remaining 3 LIAs and enlisting support from the government to eliminate political interference, including creating an umbrella organization of WUAs to build their negotiating power.

• Working closely with the Blantyre Water Board to improve water supply.

• Helping to increase access to loans through micro-finance institutions for sanitation.

• Stimulating demand for sanitation services by building the marketing skills of entrepreneurs.

• Working with Blantyre City Council to regulate that every home needs a toilet.

RE-IMAGINE REPORTING: CONCLUSIONS

• The Re-imagine Reporting initiative is Water For People’s effort to move away from traditional project cycle reporting and shift the conversation from outputs and expenditures towards long-term impact and change within a bigger picture.

• Provides a way of communicating information and describing change in discrete geographical areas, which is useful to the decision makers in those areas, and fits Water For People’s programmatic approach.

• Provides a way of showing progress towards concrete goals to other organizational stakeholders and external supporters.

• THE CHALLENGE: We will continue to explore how to bring these aims together and are keen to join with others in understanding how this can be done, and finding ways to link with national monitoring and reviewing efforts.
