Welcome to STU Law School

The Shantou Law School aims to serve its students and society through its teaching, research and publications, and its collaboration with key institutions and civil society.

Students are not just taught the theory of law and administration but also how law and administration operate in the real world, deal with important social issues, and contribute to social development. This makes STU LS is special.

Rules and principles of law and governance are important, but as Shen Jiaben, the late Qing great reformer, long ago emphasized, rules that are not enforced and principles that are ignored have little meaning in real life.

In today’s world, as a lawyer, civil servant or any other kind of professional, you will need to know how to deal with difficult issues, to be a good problem solver, and to cope with a rapidly changing society. We try to teach you all these practical matters, as well as the theory of law, government and rights. Closely linked to this innovative approach, we always seek to explore new fields of study.

The Law School was established in 1983 and now contains two departments: Law and Public Administration. It provides Undergraduate education, LLM (from 2016) and MPA programs.

It is committed to the view that law and good governance should be valued not only for themselves but also should have moral purpose and assist with finding solutions for social problems and more generally promoting sustainable and equitable development.

The Law School believes that one of the most important tasks of law and administration, and the study of these disciplines, is to serve the public good, especially in making the lives of ordinary and disadvantaged people better.
