Modification Project

 Barrick has decided to prepare an application to modify the existing development consent.

 The key change to the existing development consent is a cut-back of the existing approved open pit which would extend the life of operations at the Cowal Gold mine an additional four years

 Other changes would include;

 a larger footprint and higher waste rock emplacements

 Construction of a new water storage dam (D10) within the mining lease

 A new pump station to be constructed on the eastern side of Lake Cowal.

 Barrick has written to NSW Government advising that we will be seeking approval under Section 75W of the EP&A Act.

 Barrick will prepare an Environmental Assessment which will include

 A description of the existing environment

 An assessment of potential impacts of all stages of the Modification

 A description of measures that would be implemented to avoid, minimise and/or offset potential impacts

 The preparation of the Environmental Assessment involves a series of technical assessments, and a consultation program. These are all set to be commenced over the coming months.
