PreSIDenT’S MeSSaGehappy New Year!

i hope your holiday season was well spent with loved ones and you had the opportunity to slow down and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. this coming year let us not miss the opportunities we have to help those less fortunate and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. our goals for the new Year will remain focused on improving the lives of our members and

their communities. and in this next year, we expect to serve even more people.

it is a very busy time at Catholic Federal working to help you achieve your goals. there will be opportunities to save money by refinancing loans from other banks & credit unions. technology will continue to be upgraded to enhance your interactions with us. we also expect to add the eMV chip to new Debit Cards.

if you are looking for a mortgage think of us first and do not wait too long. there is a great deal of talk in the industry of mortgage rates going up in 2018, so if you are on the fence; now is the time to make that move into a new home. we also have many options for home equity and construction loans.

our annual Membership Meeting is just around the corner and this year’s meeting will again be held in Bay City on March 3rd. with Catholic Federal’s field of membership covering the 11 counties in the Diocese of Saginaw, it is important we reach beyond Saginaw with this special event as we do for other community events. we expect it will be a huge success and look forward to seeing those of you who attend.

thank you for your membership!

AMP MEMBERS!Starting February 1, 2018; after 10 deposits are made into your aMP (for members age 13 – 17) account with your frequent deposit card, you will receive your choice of a CFCu prize item. Movie passes will no longer be available as a selection as of February 1, 2018.

WHy ARE WE MAKING THIS CHANGE?with the current aMP deposit cards, there is a $10 minimum deposit to receive a punch. Starting February 1st, there will be no minimum deposit requirement to receive a punch. this will better accommodate our members age 13 – 17 who may be unable to make a $10 deposit each time they visit the credit union.

this will also allow a variety of items to choose from when a member fills their card. we heard from some of our aMP members & parents who did not like only having a movie pass to choose from as a prize.

aMP frequent deposit cards are available at all locations or by contacting the credit union.

Find your Comfort ZoneA message from

the steady stock market recovery has continued since the financial crisis of 2008, and this past year saw equities set more new records. Many people saw attractive investment gains as a result. But when it comes to the stock market, it’s wise to remember that what goes up can just as easily come down. how comfortable would you be if there was a major drop in the stock market? Does just the thought get your heart racing?

For some, the answer has been to seek shelter from the inevitable market volatility in certificates of deposit (CDs) and money market accounts. unfortunately, these accounts continue to set records of their own – historically low returns that often don’t keep the beat with inflation.

Do your heart some good.there are new annuity products that allow you to choose your own comfort zone. You set a limit on downside risk and still participate in the market’s upside potential. and there are other options available that provide the comfort of a guaranteed income for life. these new products could do your financial plans and your heart some good.

For more information about these new retirement planning options, contact noah Ferrio, the Catholic Federal advisory Services representative located at Catholic Federal Credit union at 989.797-7194.

there are distinct difference between annuities and certificates of deposit (CDs). Most CDs are considered a short term investment. an annuity is a long term investment. the investment in a CD is insured by the fereal government either through FDiC or nCua. the investment in an annuity is guaranteed by an insurance company. like CDs, annuities have a penalty for early surrender and withdrawals taken before the age of 59 ½ from an annuity may be subject to a 10% federal tax penalty.

all guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of the issuer and do not extend to the performance of underlying accounts which can fluctuate with changes in market conditions.

annuities are offered through Members life insurance Company. representatives are registered, securities are sold and investment advisory services offered through Cuna Brokerage Services, inc. (CBSi), member Finra/SiPC, a registered broker/dealer and investment advisor, 2000 heritage way, waverly, ia 50677, 866.512.6109. investment and insurance products are not federally insured, may involve investment risk, may lose value and are not obligations of or guaranteed by the financial institution. CBSi is under contract with the financial institution, through the financial services program, to make securities available to members.

Quick Financial resolutions for 2018

open a separate savings account to force yourself to build an emergency savings fund.

Get a (second) job. if you are looking for additional income to work on your debt, a few hours on the weekend could help.

Pull your credit score and report. a good way to start the year is to find out exactly where you stand financially. Download your credit report (one free each year) at www.annualcreditreport.com.

Plan ahead. Get in the habit each night of preparing for the next day: packing lunches, prepping breakfast and dinner. that way you will not be tempted to buy convenience food, because you are not rushed.

opt out. You can stop getting all of those unsolicited credit card offers by calling (888) 567-8688 or go to www.optoutprescreen.com.
