WINES & SPIRITS

Dear Connoisseurs,

As we are putting the Christmas season behind us and are getting closer to Chinese New Year, it is the right time to

reflect on where we stand and where we want to be.

At SPINK, we cannot thank you enough for your patronage in 2014 and we are looking forward to organizing more

intimate and entertaining wines & spirits auctions for you in Hong Kong and Singapore this year again and bringing

you new experiences, new tastings and new reasons for gathering with friends and fellow aficionados.

In November 2014, a Japanese single-malt has been named the best whisky in the world for the first time, reminding

us all in the industry that wines & spirits is a very dynamic industry and one should never stop innovating if one

wants to reach for the stars.

More importantly, it also reminded us, collectors and wines & spirits aficionados, that there is a lot to discover out

there. Remaining curious and open-minded is the key and I wish you to let your taste buds adventure themselves

this new year and bring you to new horizons. This could be for instance discovering a new wine or whisky region,

exploring Japanese single malts, rediscovering cognacs & blended whiskies or getting acquainted to Irish whiskies

and Americans bourbons!

The festive season is the perfect time to indulge for yourself or for your loved ones. Let’s actually enjoy this time to

remember wines & spirits’ golden rule: the pleasure of sharing! In this catalogue we have strived to gather a selection

of bottles across categories to please everyone’s tastes, for the pleasure of drinking or gifting!

We have notably selected a few special wine lots from the private cellars of two collectors, especially some treasures

from Domaine Romanée-Conti (Lots 5 to 10). The lots have been acquired directly from renown merchants and have

been kept solely in professional storage, ensuring both the utmost perfect provenance and condition. These could be

the very special bottles you would like to drink with your special ones for Chinese New Year, unless you rather add

them to your own collection.

We have also picked up for you some very old and collectible bottlings of your favourite whiskies, notably a Bowmore

1979 (Lot 25), Highland Park 1952 (lot 48), as well as the very rare The Macallan 1950 Red Ribbon (Lot 55) and The

Macallan Anniversary Malt 1964 and 1972 (Lots 56 & 57).

Crystal decanters – like the bottling of a 32 year old 1977 Macallan by Silver Seal (Lot 63) or the Napoleon Crown

shaped Sempe Armagnac decanter (Lot 113) – or ceramic decanters (Lots 84 to 91) can be the perfect gifts this

season for all spirits aficionados. So do the highly regarded Ichiro’s Malt “Cards” bottlings (Lots 94 to 97).

Here’s to a successful and prosperous new year, and our very best to you in 2015!

Spiritually Yours,

Your SPINK Fine Wines & Spirits Team

The Wine Advocate August 2014, 96 points“The spectacular 2003 Leoville Poyferre exhibits a dense purple color with a touch of lightening at the edge as well as notes of creosote, barbecue smoke, jammy black currants, licorice and spice box. This intense, vo-luptuously textured, full-bodied St.-Julien possesses low acidity and ripe tannin. Still fresh and exuberant, it is just entering its plateau of full maturity where it should remain for 10-15+ years.”

About Romanée Conti 2005The Wine Advocate April 2007, 99-100 points“There are more startling complexities in the 2005 Romanee-Conti than in any other wine here today, perhaps in the vintage. A stunning, high-toned and utterly unique perfume of pink grapefruit, blood orange, tangerine rind, vivid rose petal, musk, cinnamon, sage, and cassis seduces the olfactors in kaleidoscopic rotation. I hesitate to court sacrilege or ridicule with Germanic allusions but it is impossible not to imagine a great Pinot scented with Gewurztraminer and Scheurebe. On the palate, a pure, clean meatiness emerges, like butchering a meadow-fed lamb, bitter-sweet flowers flying forth in an inner-mouth profusion. Soy and black truffle lend a dark, savory note to the proceedings, leading the long finishing procession over a path strewn with rose petals. Fear not: despite its silken texture, there are abundant tannins woven into this amazing tapestry as well, and I am sure those lucky enough to own some can retain it as collateral, then leave it to their children, safe in the knowledge it has not decayed. Reverential drinking after a dozen or more years would, however, be my preference.”

13Taylor’s 1992 Vintage Port, 2 bottlesCurrently stored in a cellar in London, UK.2 bottles, 20%, 75cl each.

Starting Price: HK$ 2,200

The Wine Advocate February 1995 100 points“Taylor’s 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure. This is a massive, magnificently rich, full-bodied port that will be far more flattering in its youth than were such Taylors as the 1983, 1977, or 1970. It possesses awesome fruit, marvelous intensity, and lavish opulence, all brilliantly well-delineated by the wine’s formidable structure. This monumental 30-50 year port is a must purchase for port aficionados.!”

About Ichiro AkutoThe Akuto family history goes back all the way to the beginning of the 17th century. The Akuto family has been producing sake in the village of Chichibu since 1626 and Ichiro Akuto represents the family’s 21st generation. Ichiro Akuto’s grandfather was the founder and distiller of the lamented closed Hanyu Distillery which went through financial problems at the end of the 20th century and turned silent in 2000. The whisky distillery equipment was dismantled in 2004 and purchased by Ichiro with the hope to later in life lay foundation to a malt whisky distillery of his own, which he finally did in 2008 by founding the Chichibu Distillery.

All floor bidders are requested to register prior to bidding. You must complete and sign a registration form and provide an identification before making a bid at auction. Please be aware that we usually require buyers to undergo a credit check. 4 Payment After a lot is sold the Buyer must pay to Spink the ‘total amount due’ within seven days after the date of the sale. Any payments by a Buyer to Spink may be applied by Spink towards any sums owing from that Buyer to Spink on any account whatever without regard to any directions of the buyer or his agent, whether express or implied. 5 Ownership The ownership of the lot purchased shall not pass to the buyer until he has made payment in full to Spink of the ‘total amount due’. 6 Collection of Purchases (a) The Buyer shall at his own expense take away the lot purchased not later than 7 working days after the day of the auction but not before payment to Spink of the ‘total amount due’. Please refer to the table explaining additional costs depending on where lots are lying. 7 Buyers responsibilities for lots purchased The buyer will be responsible for loss or damage to lots purchased from the time of collection or the expiry of 7 working days after the day of the auction, whichever is the sooner, and neither Spink nor its respective staff or agents shall thereafter be responsible for any loss or damage of any kind, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, while any lot is in their custody or under their control. GUIDE FOR ABSENTEE BIDDERS ABSENTEE BIDS If you are unable to attend an auction in person, and wish to place bids, you may consider instructing Spink Bid Department to bid on your behalf. Upon receiving your written instructions, our representative will make every effort possible to try to acquire the lot(s) of your choice at the lowest price possible, and never to exceed the top limit you indicate. This service is complimentary and with strict confidence. Spink offer this value-added service as a convenience to our clients who are unable to attend the auction, however, Spink Ltd will not be held responsible for error, omission or failure to execute bids. PLACING ABSENTEE BIDS To place bids, please use the absentee bid form provided in the catalogue. Be sure to accurately record the lot number(s) and the top price you are willing to pay for each lot. “Buy” bids will not be accepted. Always indicate a “top limit” - the amount to which you would bid if you were attending the auction yourself. Alternative bids should be indicated by using the word “OR” between lot numbers. If your bid on an early lot is successful, we will not continue to bid on other lots for you. Or, if your early bids are unsuccessful, we will continue to execute bids for alternative lots until a bid is successful. Bids must always be placed in the same order as the lot numbers appear in the catalogue. Each absentee bid form should contain bids for one auction only; the auction code number should be stated on the form. Please place your bids as early as possible. In the event of identical bids, the earliest received will take precedence. TELEPHONE BIDS Bids may be placed by telephone, but are accepted subject to Spink discretion and are at caller’s risk. At the sole discretion of Spink, telephone bids may be recorded. By bidding on the telephone, prospective purchasers consent thereto. BUYER’S PREMIUM The “top limit” you indicate on your bid form is for the hammer price only. A 22% buyer’s premium will be added to the successful bid price for each lot you buy and is payable by you. ON-LINE BIDDING We offer internet services as a convenience to our clients. We will not be responsible for errors or failures to execute bids

placed on the internet, including, without limitation, errors or failures caused by a loss of internet connection by either party for whatever reason; a breakdown or problems with the online bidding software and/or a breakdown or problems with your internet connection, computer or system. Execution of on-line internet bids is a free service undertaken subject to other commitments at the time of the auction and we do not accept liability for failing to execute an online internet bid or for errors or omissions in connection with this activity.
