The Edmond Quilt Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Memorial Road Church of Christ 2221 East Memorial Road Edmond, Oklahoma SEW WHAT’S NEW President’s Report—Laura James Fellow Quilters, I have a surprise and great news. We’re going to have our first ever guild retreat. We’re keeping it simple. There will be no driving out of town and no packing overnight bags. But that’s not to say we won’t have a few sur- prises in store for you. We’re going to have two full days to sew and share and laugh. I hope you’ll be able to set aside Monday and Tuesday Septem- ber 15th and 16th, to come to MRCC and sew the day away and go home feeling productive and creative. We’ll have plenty of sewing room in our new meeting room in the Summit. Bring a quilt to baste, bring a quilt kit you’ve wanted to start, bring a quilt you’ve been meaning to finish. Then the grand finale will be our regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening. The board is working on ideas for some special retreat projects and, as I mentioned, a few surprises as well. Sign up will be required and there will be a small fee to re- serve a table. Details to follow and sign up will begin in July. Speaking of July, if you missed seeing the new tattoos Alice and I have, be sure to come to the picnic in July so you can see what all the fuss is about. I know Karen McTavish was impressed by our warm welcome and will return to Minnesota with fond memories of her trip to Oklahoma. President’s Report—Laura James Fellow Quilters,

I have a surprise and great news. We’re going to have our first ever guild retreat. We’re keeping it simple. There will be no driving out of town and no packing overnight bags. But that’s not to say we won’t have a few sur-prises in store for you. We’re going to have two full days to sew and share and laugh. I hope you’ll be able to set aside Monday and Tuesday Septem-ber 15th and 16th, to come to MRCC and sew the day away and go home feeling productive and creative. Some of us went to the Wichita Quilt Show. It was great, with 800 quilts on display and 60 vendors. We also were able to visit 4 quilt stores. I recommend everyone try to get there at least once. The drive takes just a lit-tle over two hours.

I am really looking forward to the July meeting. Imagine a picnic with no heat, wind, or ants! We will have “Itchin’ to be Stitchin’” from Chandler as our vendor for the July meeting. So bring your money, in case you see some-thing you can’t live without!

If we could have fireworks, we would! July will be celebration month and we are going to have a little party and picnic. No need to worry about the weather. This picnic will be indoors. The guild will pro-vide hot dogs with all the trimmings. Members may (but not required) bring sides or desserts. We will have Show and Tell along with games and prizes. Please bring SIX (6) fat quarters to the meeting to help with our celebration and the surprises! (Our vendor should have FQ’s available for sale if you forget to bring them.)

Has anybody made a whole cloth quilt? We want to see it! Wasn’t Karen Mc Tavish a hoot, show-ing off her tattoos and sharing her quilts and stories with us?! She made wholecloth quilting seem like a breeze. We had a good turnout from Edmond. Thanks for supporting your guild and coming to the big-gest event we have ever had.

Did Laura and I really get tats in honor of Karen?

September will be our first “Iron Quilter Quilt Retreat”- the two day retreat mentioned by Laura in her article. The board is planning a fun-filled retreat for any and all members. More details will be coming when plans are finalized.

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,

If you missed last month’s meeting, I’m sure you will regret it after you hear what a great speaker we had. Karen McTavish was very colorful and funny! Approximately 50 of our members made the trip to Rose State for the meeting. We also had some new members join the guild. I’d like to welcome Jill Banta back (she is a charter member). Our new members are Susan Schaul, Leanne Dalke, Martha Roach, and her daughter Robyn Roach. We’ll see you all in July.

Atta Quilter! ∗ Congratulations to Brenda Esslinger for winning a

cash prize for best machine stitched quilt at Fi-berworks this year for her piece “Dillo de Mayo”.

∗ Congratulations to Alice Kellogg for having her piece “Rana’s Pond IV” accepted into the same show.

∗ Congratulations to Charlotte Hickman (a very busy lady this summer I might add!) for three blue ribbons and a judge’s choice! She won blue rib-bons for her OK Centennial Quilt (she also won a blue for this one in our recent show) and one of her Dogwood quilts, both displayed at the Green Country Quilt Guild Show in Tulsa. She won a blue ribbon and Judge’s Choice ribbon for her “Colorful Puffer Fish” which was hanging in the Common Threads Quilt Show in Wichita, KS.
