Mission StatementMission StatementMission StatementMission Statement The parishes of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Thomas More are Roman Catholic Communities that worship and live in faith. Nourished by the Sacraments, Scripture, and a diversity of individual gifts, we understand that our mission comes from Jesus Christ

who calls us to teach, to preach, to serve those in need, and to be a presence of Christ in the world.

Sanctuary Lamp Intentions this week are in Memory of: STM Dorothy Dispenza

OLQP Saverio, Adele, & Joseph Salemme

Each winter, I wonder (oftentimes out loud to

anyone who will listen!) when the cold weather will end

and give way to sunshine and mild temperatures. Spring is

my favorite time of year for the obvious reason of pleasant

weather and the ability to spend more time outdoors, but

also because of the celebration of first Holy Communion

and Confirmation. To see the hard work of catechists,

students, and families come to fruition in the celebration of

these sacraments is extremely gratifying and uplifting. As

we know, God’s grace is everywhere, but is especially

present in a very “loud” way when we participate in

sacramental life. It is through regular participation in

sacramental life and the sacred liturgy that we are drawn

ever closer to an intimate, personal relationship with our

Creator, and that we come to have the strength to make sure

that our personal faith, as well as the faith of our “domestic

churches”, is built on rock and not sand.

Please join me in congratulating and praying for all

students who received Christ in the Holy Eucharist for the

first time on May 6. (Listed on page 3 of bulletin.) May

they be fed in Holy Eucharist so that they may go feed, and

may they continue to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus

Christ in the months and years ahead, shine God’s light for

all to see.

I would like to thank the First Eucharist catechists

who have helped to plant and nurture the seeds of faith

within our youth this sacramental preparation programming

year – Amy Ingrassia, Carole Frantz, Carolyn Vacanti and

Alexandra Brindak. Their time, dedication and willingness

to share God love is so appreciated and so very vital to the

growth of not only our faith community, but of our global

Church.

After two years of preparation, 51 young people

from our faith community will celebrate the Sacrament of

Confirmation at Sacred Heart Cathedral on May 22. They

and their families should be commended for the time,

dedication and faithfulness they demonstrated as they

navigated through so many months of preparation. Please

pray for them as they prepare for this special day, that they

are open and ready to acknowledge the movement of the

Holy Spirit in their lives, now and always.

Peace, Jodi Miller

Supermarket WeekendSupermarket WeekendSupermarket WeekendSupermarket Weekend

For many years the parishioners at Our Lady Queen of Peace have participated in the ministry of “Supermarket

Weekend.” It has come to our attention that parishioners at St. Thomas More would also like to

participate in this ministry. So, the collection is taken up the last FULL weekend of every month and the

community of St. Thomas More is welcome to donate non%perishable food items. There will be a container placed at the church entrance for the items to go in.

The food items go to Andrews Center on

Whittington Rd., which is a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. This ministry helps children with multiple needs from 0%12 years old who receive 24%hour nurturing for physical, emotional and psychological afflictions while

providing restorative relief to their families.

The next Supermarket Weekend is May 25/26May 25/26May 25/26May 25/26.

Second Collection - Next Weekend

Diocesan Missions Sunday The Church is called to proclaim Jesus Christ, who was crucified, died and is risen: through him God

bestows “new life” that is divine and eternal. This is the “Good News” which changes people and history,

and which all people have a right to hear. We cannot be content when we consider the millions of our brothers and sisters who don’t know Christ and

the love of God yet. For over 50 years, the sisters of St. Joseph have labored in Brazil and the Sisters of Mercy in Chile.

Next weekend, May 19-20, we call upon you to help with your prayers and sacrificial gift, so that they may continue to bring Christ into a world where darkness,

despair and emptiness prevail.

St. Thomas More has yet to reach our Catholic Ministries Appeal Goal. We still have $9,382.42 to go. Note: If assigned goals are not met, we will still have to pay the diocese

the full amount out of our regular

collection. The campaign ends on May 31st. Any money

collected after that date will go towards next

year’s collection. Every contribution helps.

How strong is your faith? When you have an opportunity to either

defend or clarify a question about our Catholic faith, do you do it? Or, do you

remain silent so that others don’t think you are weird? Pray for the courage to be

strong in all circumstances and to share your witness with others.
