In the remotest corner of the North, on the other side

of the Arctic Circle, in Finnish Lapland is Levi, a centre

for year-round experiences. This resort is a blend of

Lappish exoticism, high-quality accommodation and

Getting to Levi

It’s easiest to arrive at Levi by air. From Europe, for ex-

ample, the connections to the village are excellent.

During the winter high season there are daily flights

from Helsinki to Kittilä airport and in the summer sea-

son the flights operate several times a week. The flight

time is 1 h 30 min and the transport from the airport

to Levi takes 15 min. For the season 2012-2013 there

will be a direct flight introduced from Copenhagen to

Kittilä as well. You can also take a night train from Hel-

sinki to Kolari which is 80 km from Levi. A bus to Levi

departs from Kolari after the train has arrived.

The beautiful village, situated on the flanks of Levitunturi

(Levi fell), provides all the services required by the visitor. In

the village, there are various restaurants, some offering food

and others entertainment as well. There are also special-

ist shops and, of course, basic services such as super markets

and medical services. Quality hotels and holiday apartments

are also situated right on the hillside.

In Levi, you can always find somewhere pleasant to stay, be-

cause you can choose exactly what you want from a truly

extensive range of holiday accommodation with options as

unusual as glass-roofed igloos. In addition, you can choose

whether you want to stay close to the fell village or a bit fur-

At last, new snow! When the first snow arrives

in October / November, an Alpine Skiing World

Cup meeting takes place in Levi. From then on,

winter sets in, offering excellent conditions

again for Lappish experiences in the snow.

At Levi you will find slopes that are well main-

tained far into the spring. In addition, the

area is one of the surest places to find snow

throughout the season. It’s easy to enjoy

skiing in all styles and the rental equipment

is high-quality. There are easier slopes for

families and the smallest of children as well as

challenging conditions for the more experi-

enced skier.

Pure enchantment

In skilful hands, snow and ice can be made into fantastically refined little

details and impressive structures, that will captivate people of all ages!

On the fells, you can sense that Christmas is coming well in

advance. The warmest festival of the year brings childlike joy

and authentic traditions to midwinter. When the real Santa

Claus arrives with his reindeer and elves, tables groan under

the weight of goodies and the midwinter darkness is bathed

in colours for a short while.

Christmas is being celebrated in Levi by building a beautiful

Christmas market and with various events and programmes

that everyone can take part in. The Christmas programmes

can also be tailored to individuals’ requests. Did you know

The Aurora Borealis illuminates the midwin-

ter which lingers until January / February in

Levi. Twilight on the fell glows with a mystical

peace, and the snowy landscape invites you

on various safaris with reindeer and huskies,

for example. Take on the challenge of the arc-

tic temperatures!

You can get a feel for snowmobiling on guided

tours close to Levi. For those who particularly

want to explore the surrounding wilderness,

a snowmobile is a must. There are as many

as 886 kilometres of maintained snowmobile

routes.

The sun ushers in the spring! In March /

April, snow glistens underneath the skis of

cheery people enjoying themselves out-

doors. There are also cultural experien-

ces and pampering treatments on offer for

bons viveurs and lots of planned activities

for families with children.

From Levi, the whole of Lapland opens up

to you. The cross-country skier is led to

well-marked trails and pleasant trailside

cafes. There are suitable trails for everyo-

ne – and while skiing the well-maintained

tracks you get to breath the cleanest air in

Europe! In addition, the tracks are close to

sea level and the air is rich in oxygen. Enjo-

yable yet safe outdoor experiences are also

available from dozens of companies offe-

ring activities in Levi such as snowshoeing,

ice fishing or winter-driving school as well

as various safaris.

In May, many changes take place in the natural environment: the ice disappears into rushing

rivers, and migrating birds rouse nature to mark the beginning of Lapland’s enchanting sum-

mer. When the snow has melted, skis are swapped for summer equipment such as walking

poles, a canoe or mountain bike.

Glorious nature unfurls right on the doorstep of the Levi fell village. So, you do not have to

look far for experiences with nature – signposted and well-maintained routes lead you into ad-

venture and bring you back to the comfort of high-quality services in the evening.

The magical midnight sun makes the Lappish summer pulsate between June and August.

The nights are warm and incredibly light. At this time of year, you can play golf or go hiking,

fishing, cycling or riding. You may also choose to go canoeing or swimming in the crystal

clear waters.

Levi Golf & Country Club’s 18-hole golf course is one of the world’s most northerly. The

course, built amidst the magnificent fell landscape, offers more playing time than is usual

elsewhere: you can even play through the ”nightless night” when the sun never sets. The

location is made even more exotic by reindeer sauntering around the edge of the course!

In September, ”ruska” paints the natural environment va-

rious colours. This is the time for harvesting. The pure gifts

of Mother Nature, such as berries and mushrooms that can

be eaten straight from the ground and fish caught from

clear waters, are on offer in Levi’s restaurants throughout
