Y es, I know, it feels like summer, but that is OK.

This Florida girl loves the heat. I think I am out numbered though.

We had a great response to the two contests we are running. The cover photos were coming in fast and we have some great pictures to share with you inside. Don’t forget all the pictures are on the Facebook page as well. www.facebook.com/ycnsevenoaks. The winner for April’s cover is: Michelle Paradise. Great picture! Michelle wins a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel. Keep sending in your photos to win!

There were five correct entries for the hidden picture

contest. We put the names in a bowl and drew out the winner, who is: Dee Curran. Congratulations! Dee wins a $25 gift card to Applebee’s. The hidden rainbow was in the Muvico ad. Everyone can try again each month, there is no limit. The hidden picture for April to hunt for is a solid BLUE EASTER EGG.

As always, send in your photos, news, stories and announcements. Seven Oaks News is all about YOU!

CDD InFORMaTIOnSeven OakSBy Bill Parsons Vice Chairman, Seven Oaks CDD

While walking down Ancient Oaks Blvd on a morning walk on Febru-

ary 11, I noticed that the gates on both sides of Ancient Oaks Blvd at the power line road had been dam-aged. The picture at the top of the page is the gate on the east side of Ancient Oaks Blvd while the picture below is the gate on the west side of Ancient Oaks Blvd. This should make homeowners at Seven Oaks mad because we are the people who will be paying to have these gates re-paired. At the CDD Board meeting on March 14th, the Board approved $1,733.64 to replace these two gates with gates similar to the all metal gate on the same road near Bruce B. Downs.

If you are a homeowner at Seven Oaks, you are paying to have these gates repaired just as if the damage was done to your house and you had to pay for repairs. When I first moved to Seven Oaks in 2002, I did not give a lot of thought of where the money came from to develop Seven Oaks. Now that I am on the CDD Board, I realize that the funds being used to develop, maintain, and repair

the common areas such as clubhouse, tennis courts, pools, parks, roads, irrigation systems, ponds, etc. are be-ing paid for with CDD funds which come from the homeowners at Seven

Oaks. This means that if CDD funds have to be used to repair damages such as the broken gates, our CDD fees added to Seven Oaks homeown-ers’ County Property Tax bill each

year will be higher for each home-owner. We need your help to stop or prevent individuals from damaging the common areas at Seven Oaks -- it’s your money!!!

Contractor cleaning the sidewalks on Mystic Oak Blvd.

Security cameras mounted at the entrance to Palmetto Bend.

If you see someone causing dam-age to Seven Oaks property, call the Sheriff ’s Office. This

would include people who dam-age our property accidently or intentionally such as with vehicles pictures below.

At Seven Oaks, we have had entrance signs spray painted, soap added to the water fountains, van-dalism at the clubhouse, etc. We need to determine who is doing this damage so we can insure they do not continue to damage our property.

To help catch people who are costing the homeowners money to make repairs at Seven Oaks, we have installed 25 license plate cameras and 24 overhead dome

cameras at the neighborhood entrances for a cost of $74,016 (see picture below). In addition, we spent $11,981 to install five cameras at the club house. These cameras will help us catch some of the vandals, but our best resource is the residents of Seven Oaks.

The CDD Board asks that if you see anyone damaging any area of Seven Oaks, or anyone who looks suspicious, please call the Pasco County Sheriff ’s Office.

Emergency: 911

Non Emergency:727-844-7711

To help keep Seven Oaks a pre-mier community in Pasco County, we spent $15,950 to clean the sidewalks and curbs along the Ancient Oaks Blvd, Summergate Blvd, and Mystic Oak Blvd (see picture below). In addition, CDD maintenance employees pressure wash areas around the club house, parks, and other areas. All this ef-fort is for naught if people litter up the area. During my walks along Ancient Oaks Blvd and the nature trail, I see disposable water bottles, soda cans, etc. The maintenance people drive around Seven Oaks daily picking up trash that has been thrown into the common ar-eas. Help us reduce cost and keep Seven Oaks nice by not littering our beautifully landscaped and conservation areas.

To prevent damage to Seven Oaks property, it may not al-ways be necessary to call the police. Some children are rid-ing the gates when they open and close costing homeowners thousands of dollars to repair the gates.

In our parks, children are dam-aging the basketball goals by jumping up and grabbing them. To stop this kind of damage does not require you to call the Pasco County Sheriff ’s Office. A simple talk with the parents will usually fix the problem. By working together, we can keep Seven Oaks a premier commu-nity and avoid spending unnec-essary money too.

COMMUnITy News

Heart disease is the number-1 killer of men and women in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, at least 50 percent of heart attack fatalities occur before the patient can even get to the emer-gency room, usually in the first hour of symptom onset.

Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Insti-tute announced it is the first hospital in the Tampa Bay region – and one of the first in North America -- to

join the FDA-approved ALERTS Pivotal Study which investigates the effectiveness of an early heart attack warning device for men and women at high risk for a heart attack.

“Any patient 21 and older who has suffered a heart attack, had heart bypass surgery or has been diagnosed with multi-vessel disease -- such as receiving multiple stents to unclog arteries – at any local hospital in the last six months is a candidate

for this free study”, says Dr. Charles Lambert, medical director of Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute and principle investigator of the study.

The New Jersey-based “AngelMed Guardian System” is comprised of an internal implantable device the size of a standard pacemaker, and two small devices resembling a pager to be worn on the participant’s waist. One pager-like device alerts the user to a possible heart attack while the second device is an aid for physi-cians to evaluate heart signals upon emergency room arrival.

“This system monitors a patient’s heartbeat all the time and is designed to detect and warn of an impend-ing heart attack,” says Dr. Lambert. “Alerting the user to a possible life-threatening condition and having them go to the ER right away allows for saving crucial heart muscle. We are excited to participate in this important clinical trial.”

The ALERTS trial is scheduled to run through the first quarter of 2013, allowing Dr. Lambert and his research team at Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute to evaluate up to 1,020 patients to prove the effectiveness of the cardiac monitor and alert system for high-risk heart patients.

Once a patient is cleared to par-ticipate, a 30-minute procedure is required in the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute Cath Lab to implant the pacemaker device. Patients may be required to stay for overnight observation before starting the trial upon hospital discharge the following morning.

For more information or to deter-mine eligibility for the ALERTS Piv-otal Study, call Florida Hospital Pe-pin Heart Institute at 813-615-7527 and ask for Dr. Charles Lambert, chief medical director and principle investigator for the study. v

The Shen Yun Orchestra masterfully blends two of the world’s greatest classical music traditions, Chinese and West-

The Western orchestra with its energy and grandeur, and the Chinese instruments with their distinct tones and styles, create a dramatic new sound.

springtime in Florida means the start of the swimming season for many pool owners. Is your

pool ready for swimming? Here are a few tips to get your pool swim-ready:

CheCklisT:1. inspect Equipment:

a. Check pump and skimmer baskets and replace if cracked or broken.

b. Check gasket on pump and filter housing by wiping your hand across it – if a black residue shows on your hand then it is a sign that it needs to be replaced. Also check for cracks or any damage to the vessel.

c. Check your filter for worn, damaged or torn pleats or bands. A clean filter promotes a healthy swim environment. If the filter is old it cannot filter debris very well and usually will promote a cloudy pool or mustard algae. A filter usually needs to be replaced every 12-18 months.

d. Check around pump and PVC

plumbing for leaks that can promote system inefficiencies and loss of money.

2. Cleaning:

Remove all heavy debris such as leaves, plants, stones from top and bottom of pool floors by using a large net. Then brush the pool walls, steps, swim outs and floor to ensure that debris and dirt are all removed. The more proactive you are in getting the debris out, the less chemicals you will need to keep your pool water balanced and healthy for swimming. 3. filtration:

Clean your filter thoroughly if you have not been doing so in the winter, and be sure to clean it at least monthly and more often if needed depending on your usage, bather load and environmental conditions. DE filters should be completely disassembled, cleaned and all grids inspected. Doing this annually will avoid excessive DE powder buildup. Sand filters should also be taken apart and laterals

inspected. Remove old sand and replace with new every 3-4 years. 4. water Testing/shocking:

Test your pool’s water to determine the right amount of chemicals to achieve pH balance for a sparkling, clean pool that is healthy for swimming. You can do this by using test strips or test agents and using our website to determine the right amount of chemicals to add. Shocking your pool may be needed if algae is visible. If you are not sure what to do, simply call us for a free water consult!

5. Circulation:

Be sure your pool is circulating efficiently to avoid algae and bacteria from developing. Check and adjust timer settings to account for Daylight Savings Time. Most pools should run 7-9 hours in the summer to allow for adequate turnaround of the water to filter completely. For more information, green pool clean ups, repairs, parts and supplies, call Backyard Pool supplies at 813-994-0049 or 813-388-1730 for service. v

HEaLTHy SWIMMIngWith warm weather approaching and birds chirping we are looking forward to spending a fun, exciting and eventful season with all of you residents. Management and the staff of Seven Oaks take pride in maintaining our facilities. We would like to keep our reputation in good standing so we are asking for your help in order to keep our pools in operating condition for the entire season. Yes, there are times that we may have to close a pool during peek hours due to a safety issue and /or other conditions that we can’t control.

However, with your help we can control age appropriate children to be geared with a water resistant swim diaper to prevent anyone from receiving a recreational water illness (RWI). All of our pools are properly chlorinated and checked throughout the day, but even at perfect levels it takes time for chlorine to kill contaminants that may be in the water. This is why we ask that you please help us keep our pools safe by following the guidelines regarding small children and the appropriate swimwear. We thank you all for your cooperation and understanding, and we all look forward to a fun-filled summer.

In the event that you forget to gear up your children with a swim diaper, you can conveniently purchase an age appropriate, water resistant swim diaper from the Clubhouse.

did you know that your heating and cooling system typically uses more energy than any other system in your home? U.S. Depart-

ment of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy estimates that about 43% of your bill is devoted to heating and cooling!

You can easily save money by appropriately maintaining and upgrading your HVAC system. However, says the EERE, upgrading to an energy-efficient furnace alone will not have as great an impact on your energy bills as using the whole-house approach to reducing energy consumption. Homeowners should combine proper equipment maintenance and upgrades with appropriate insula-tion, air sealing, and thermostat settings. The EERE estimates homeowners doing so can cut energy use for heating and cooling, and reduce environmental emissions, from 20 percent to 50 percent.

lauren Smith, Erica Labrie and Sarah Horn all live in Seven Oaks, and didn’t know each

other or know they lived so close until they started volunteering with Cat Crusaders, Inc., an all–volunteer cat rescue in the New Tampa/ Wesley Chapel area. It was their desire to help out, their love of cats, that brought them together, plus they get to earn community service hours for their schools as well.

When it comes to the rescue, there is always plenty for volunteers to do. Students earn community service hours by volunteering at Petsmart New Tampa by BJ’s, where Cat Crusaders shows cats 7 days a week. Students are trained to kennel, which includes cleaning food and water bowls, scooping litter boxes, and of course, giving the kitties plenty of love. While kennelers are used during the week, it is the weekends that are always in short supply of adult and student volunteers. Volunteers sign up for the hours they want to volunteer, so they set their own schedule and can volunteer for as much or as little as they desire.

A majority of the cats and kittens find their forever homes on the weekends, so Cat Crusaders works in shifts on the weekends, which include Sat from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adult volunteers

learn how to screen individuals for adoption and oversee the high school student volunteers. There are always several volunteers at each shift, so no one is alone. Lauren, Erica and Sarah are often at the store on the weekends helping out, and even Lauren’s mom, Sharon Smith volunteers and runs adoptions for the rescue on Sunday afternoons.

Cat Crusaders is also always in need of foster homes for the furballs until they are adopted. Cat Crusaders supplies all the food, litter, and vet care while foster homes supply the love, and a clean, safe, indoor environment. Entire families can participate in fos-tering, and students earn community service hours for fostering, as long as their parents confirm that they helped care for their foster kitties.

Kitten season has just started and Cat Crusaders as usual, is being hit from all sides. They try and help people in the community, while also trying to save lives by taking kitties out of the two local kill shelters. Cat Crusaders always needs volunteers. People with allergies can even help with fundrais-ing efforts.

For more information, visit them at PetSmart New Tampa on the week-ends, or www.tampacatcrusaders.org, or call (813)472-9700. v

Precision Kia announces Books for Troops as the winner of a $1000 donation in their Feburary

“Pay it Forward” event on Facebook. The announcement was made on their Facebook page.

Precision Kia of Wesley Chapel wants to thank all their February charities and their supporters for an exciting month of voting. Congratulations to Books For Troops for getting the most votes and winning the February $1000 donation. They broke a record with 1099 votes followed closely by Sylvia Thomas Center with 874 votes. Patricia Murphy, Project Chairman of Books for Troops said, “I’m doing my happy dance! The other chairities we were competing against are amazing too. I’m just so grateful for all the support from our facebook fans.”

The Books for Troops project began October 1st with a goal of collecting 1000 books to ship to deployed troops. As of today the project has collected 6,356 paperback books for troops. “The New Tampa Junior Woman’s Club budgeted $1000 to cover the shipping costs for the project.

Together with an in-kind donation of postage from a local business we have packed and shipped 5,000 books. This donation from Wesley Chapel Kia will allow us to ship an additional 2,500 books to our troops overseas,” said Murphy.“To our facebook fans, this is their award too. We couldn’t have done it without their help,” said Murphy. “Many people have asked if I would do this year-round and I have decided to do it. This has been so much fun.”

If you would like to make a donation toward postage for books please visit the GFWC New Tampa Juniors website www.gfwcnewtampajuniors.org and click the donate button on the bottom of the page. You can also friend Books for Troops on facebook or visit the blog BooksforTroopsTampa.wordpress.com for more information about the project.

“Branding” is a term utilized to denominate everything that can be done to make a

BRAND succeed. Branding should be considered during every business move you make to make your brand visible to clients.

Business owners attempt to reach their target market to increase sales, obtain new clients, or to promote new offers and products. Big Frog Custom T-Shirts and More can help you achieve that daily presence with your clients. When you wear apparel with your company logo you are promoting your business!

The apparel we wear to work has gone beyond being a mere work garment to becoming part of the corporate image and marketing strategy. Your shirt with your logo IS marketing. It is a commu-nication element of your company that

simultaneously makes your employees feel like part of the company, which in turn influences productivity. For this reason, whether your image is conservative or formal, you can attract your clients’ attention through your employees’ image (it’s no surprise that the first patented work uniform in the US was the Playboy Bunny!)

Remember, using identifying company apparel not only projects an image of confidence to your clients, but also adds prestige, professionalism and credibility to your business.

Consider your logo itself: You want it to be clear, to-the-point and memorable. It might also communicate vital informa-tion such as your website or facebook page. It can be difficult to design a logo alone. Why not use a team of profes-sional designers? You will avoid com-mon design and printing mistakes. Big

Frog can help you create that attractive and colorful logo you need to capture your clients’ attention. We offer FREE design service and UNLIMITED color printing!

Investing in promotional material is another great and economic way to keep your company name and logo present in your clients’ minds. Everyone uses a computer daily, why not create mouse pads with your company logo, or bottle holders, can coolies and coasters that will advertise your company during their family gatherings? Also, promotional materials are excellent for corporate gatherings or networking.

Be it a t-shirt, polo shirt, apron, mouse pad or can coolie, the final product

represents a tangible symbol of your business. Turn it into something worth keeping!

Everyone has something to say...say it with Big Frog! v

Are you thinking abouta new business, campaign

or product?

On March 16th-18th, the Wiregrass Ranch High School Fine Arts Depart-

ment, WRHS Orchestra, and the WRHS Thespian Honor Society staged a performance of the upbeat musical Guys and Dolls at the Wes-ley Chapel Performing Arts Center. Margaret Peacock, WRHS drama teacher and director of the play, de-voted much of her time and efforts this year to making the performance a big success.

Being a very large event, many pro-motional activities went on at Wire-grass Ranch High School prior to the big weekend. The students who participated in the production of Guys and Dolls were also very busy during the weeks leading up to the play, doing everything from building sets to attending rigorous rehearsals.

After watching the performance on Saturday the 17th, I can definitely say that all of the hard work put in by everyone most certainly paid

off! The result was a stunning performance by everyone who participated. All of the actors and actresses executed their parts beautifully, and the transition between sets was seamless. The play starred Nicolette Doria, Grant Modlin,

Tim Mendoza, Tyler Baughn, Ashley Shalna, Caleb Oosterling, and many other talented students as the lively cast of Guys and Dolls. The Wiregrass Ranch High School Orchestra provided an exceptional soundtrack for the play as well, ac-centing the colorful characters and dramatic scenes.

The principal of Wiregrass Ranch High School, Mr. Bonti, provided boundless support for the Fine Arts Department and the production

of Guys and Dolls. It was because of him that the Fine Arts Depart-ment could put on such a large and successful show. The theater was packed full on Saturday, which can be partially owed to Donna Fraser, Max Rathman, and Paula Smith, who helped promote and publicize the show. In short, an incredible amount of staff, students, and par-ents put an unbelievable amount of effort into this show, and the results showed that their sacrifice was clearly worthwhile. The play was very entertaining, well put together, and expertly performed. It was defi-nitely one of the best high school plays I have seen, and one that the Wiregrass Ranch High School staff and students should be very proud to have put on this year.
