Arrábida mountain

Near our city there is a small mountain range where a big number of autochthonous species live.

It is part of a Natural Park in which there are species like the wild cat (Felis silvestris), mongooses (Herpestes ichneumon), the badger (Meles meles), the fox (Vulpes vulpes), colonies of bats, the Bonelli’s eagle (Hieraetus fasciatus), towl’s owl (Tyto alba) and inumerous insects.

Arrábida is a fantastic place to take photos as from its top the view is splendid, although some parts are being destroyed by factories.

Further concerns are fires in the summer and climate changes.

Setúbal has a great area of beaches where the ocean meets our mountain range. All of them are of a big touristic and landscaping interest. Portinho da Arrábida and Figueirinha detach from the others.

Sado river

Sado river flows in a South/North direction through 175 km from its springs in the Caldeirão hills before entering the Atlantic Ocean in an estuary in the city of Setúbal.

In Setúbal, its estuary is a Natural Reserve famous for being the habitat for a large community of bottlenose dolphins.

Climate changes

Scientists are worried because of some terrible changes that will completely modify the life and the environment in our region, if we do nothing to avoid all kind of climate changes.

They’ve predicted severe heat waves and less raining in the spring and summer.

Sado’s discharge will have reduced to only 60% in 2100.
