Setting up Term Weights – Middle School How a teacher sets up each individual quarter is a personal choice; teachers can choose to grade their assignments based on Total Points or Category Weights (organizing assignments into categories such as quizzes, tests, projects, class work, etc.). However, grade set-up for each major term – S1, S2, & Y1 – does matter and is not based on teacher preference. These terms must be set up with specific term weights. For each of their classes, teachers must select Grade Setup, open the appropriate final term option (S1 for first semester classes, S2 for second semester classes, Y1 for year- long classes) by clicking on the little arrow next to it, select Term Weights/Standards Weights, and enter term weights as shown in the following screen shots. If the set-up does not look like the examples given here, the final grade will not average correctly. Middle School Semester Class: Select S1 if it’s a first semester class, S2 if it’s second semester. Weight each quarter 50%; do not weight exam (it should be zero).
