Basic operations Thank you for buying the "Xperia TM VL" (simply called the "product" from here on). In this guide, settings and precautions for using the product are described. Canceling the key lock Touch and drag " " to " " to cancel the screen lock. Applications key Tap to display the applications screen. rRecently used applications Tap to display a list of recently used applications. yHome key Tap to display Home screen. xBack key Tap to return to the previous screen. Display Operate directly touching with your finger. Status bar Current status and the notification icons are displayed. Notification panel Touch panel operations ■ Character input Use the keyboard displayed when you tap an input field on the character input screen to register a contact, create a mail message, etc. Keyboard To input Japanese, use "Xperia™ Japanese keyboard" switching four input types of "Phonepad", "QWERTY keyboard", "Japanese syllabary", "Kana Handwriting input". ■ 《Phonepad》 Character switch key Tap to switch character type. Or long-touch to switch "QWERTY", "Phonepad", "Japanese syllabary", or "Handwritten input". 1 To set Wi-Fi ® network manually 1 Select Wi-Fi ® network [ ]→ [Add network] 《QWERTY》 《Flick input screen》 ぬ ね に の な Flick left Flick up Tap Flick right Flick down Flick input On the phonepad keypad, touch a key to display the input candidate by flick input as follows. Flick in the direction of desired character to input the character. Input a password (security key) → [Connect] 2 Connect Wi-Fi ® network → [Done] 3 Displaying menu There are 2 types for displaying the screen menu; tapping " " and long-touching an input field or item. ■ Company names and product names referred to in this manual are trademarks or registered trademarks of respective companies. In some cases, top/bottom of a screen may be omitted. 《Japanese syllabary》 Connect Wi-Fi ® network → [Done] 3 STEP 4:Accounts & sync <Setting Google account> Set up Google account to use Google applications such as "Gmail", "Google Play", "Google Talk", "Google+". Main setting items are as follows. (Require registration of "First name", "Last name", "Security question and Answer" except for the items below. if you have no another mail address for "Secondary Email", remain as blank.) Username Register your Google account (user ID) and any character string for mail address. Username which is already used by another user cannot be set. Password Register password for the Google account. ■ 1 [Google] If you have a Google account, tap "Existing". * [New] 2 3 Input "First name", "Last name" → [Next] Checking registration of username starts 4 5 Input password → [Next] 6 8 9 Select if you join Google+. 10 7 Input spare mail address, question and answer when you forgot the password → [Next] You can use the product even If you do not set up a Google account. ● With "Kana Handwriting", draw on the screen with your finger to input characters. 《Kana Handwriting》 Basic operations Describes the basic operations. Initial settings Make initial settings when you turn the power on for the first time. au ID Setting Set up au ID. E-mail settings Make initial settings for ~ @ezweb.ne.jp etc. Making a call Describes how to make a call. Receiving a call Describes how to receive a call. ● ● ● ● ● ● Importing contacts Import contacts from microSD memory card etc. Exporting contacts Export contacts to microSD memory card etc. Sending/Receiving contacts via infrared communication Send or receive contacts via infrared communication. Backing up to a microSD memory card Use a file management application to back up data. Saving battery power Save battery power using widget. ● ● ● ● ● Add Wi-Fi ® network manually. Check network SSID, authentication type, etc. in advance. If security is set, you need to enter a security key. Connect to Wi-Fi ® network using WPS compatible wireless LAN ® device as an access point. Tap "Auto setup (WPS)" on the Wi-Fi settings screen and press the WPS button on the compatible device. To use auto-setting (WPS) Input a user name → [Next] This screen may not be displayed. * Confirm contents → "I accept" Confirm the back up setting → [Next] Registration is complete. * Input network SSID and security → [Save] 2 If you select "Join Google+", follow the onscreen instructions. * The first time this product turns ON, the initial setting screen appears automatically. Follow the onscreen instructions. STEP 3: Setting wireless network Use home wireless LAN (Wi-Fi ® ) or public wireless LAN to connect Internet service. Wi-Fi ® setting method as follows. Operate in a place where signal of Wi-Fi ® network can be received. Tap "Search for networks" to detect available Wi-Fi ® networks and display the list. Wi-Fi ® network with is open network. Wi-Fi ® network with is protected by security. To connect, enter password (security key). Wi-Fi ® network with displayed can be connected by entering PIN code to WPS device. To detect Wi-Fi ® network manually, tap [Scan]. For advanced settings, tap [ ] → [Advanced]. ■ ● ● ● ● ● STEP 2: Setting internet connection ■ "Mobile network and Wi-FI"/"Wi-Fi only" → [ ]. Select "English (United States)" and tap "Done". Alternatively, after setup completion, from the Home, [ ] → [ 設定 (Settings)] → [ 言語と入力 (Language & input)] → [ 地 域/言語 (Language)]. ● STEP START: Setting language ■ When "Welcome!" appears, tap " ". STEP 1: Setting up Internet connection ■ STEP 4: Accounts & sync Tap "Facebook"/"Exchange ActiveSync" and follow onscreen instruction to set up an account and synchronize. Tap " " of Automatic Synchronization to activate so that you can synchronize with contacts, calendar, etc. of Gmail or online service. ■ STEP 5: Completion of setup When the setup completion screen appears, tap "Finish". Alternatively, from the Home, [ ] → [Settings] → [Setup guide] to set each function. ■ ● To set online service, make sure that data communication is enabled. Check that / appears on the status bar or the product is connected to a Wi-Fi ® network. ● au Easy Setting Set au convenient functions or services. ■ 1 [Next] [Registration] → [OK] → Set au ID 2 3 To select and set Wi-Fi ® network Select and set from detected Wi-Fi ® networks. For security protected Wi-Fi ® network, enter a security key. Setting au ID. By setting au ID, you can use various services provided by au such as "au Simple Payment Service" which allows you to purchase applications from the au Market or Google Play. au ID which is already used by another user cannot be set. ● From the Home, [ ]. [au ID Setting] → Check the contents → [OK] 1 2 [au IDの設定・ 保存 (Set/save au ID)] 3 Set password → [利用規約 に同意して新規登録 (Agree Terms of Use and register)] 5 6 4 If you register your au ID, set from [au IDをお持ちの方はこちら (Register your au ID)]. * Tap "設定画面へ (Go to setting screen)", then register information necessary for re-issue of password, and then tap [入力完了 (Done)] → [設定 (Set)] → [終了 (Exit)]. Default value is four-digit security code written at subscription. * Enter a security password → [OK] Confirm contents → [Accept] → [Next] 4 Confirm contents → Mark [accept] → [Next] [Finish] 5 If you tap "Accept" in the step 3, you can back up contacts or photos to au Cloud. If you mark "accept" in the step 4, information based on the location data is displayed in the widget. Alternatively, after the initial setting is complete, from the Home, [ ] → [au Easy Setting], you can set au service. * * ● For setting au ID, see the step 3 and subsequent steps in "Setting au ID". * Tap/Double Tap Tap: Gently touch a screen and then immediately release your finger. Double tap: Tap the same position twice. Long-touch Keep touching an item with your finger. Slide While your finger is gently touching the screen, trace it to the desired direction to move over. Flick Operate the screen by quickly moving (flicking) your finger up, down, right, or left. Pinch Touch with two fingers and widen (pinch-out)/narrow (pinch-in) the fingers' distance. Drag Keep touching an item or icon, trace it to the desired direction to move. Initial settings
