SetLister - prototype app to help musicians choose what songs to play together

SetListerFind songs to play, together.

SetListerPhil likes to get together with friends to play music. There’s no regular line-up; they organised sessions around who's available on a given date. They find it difficult to agree a list of songs to play that suit everyone's tastes and abilities, and which fit the instruments they will have available.

The SetLister app offers a way for the group to collaborate on building a set list. Users can suggest and vote on songs, and offer to play particular roles. The app includes a song search, and a feature that suggests songs based on who's coming, what they play, and what music they like.

Future iterations of this app could include set list history to improve the suggestion feature. Venue finding and musician networking would also be useful extensions.

Phil is on his way home. He gets a notification from SetLister, inviting him to play music one night, with his friends.

He decides to take a look at what they are planning to play.

He can see Dave, Taylor and Courteney are also going, and that a couple of songs have been suggested.

Two people have already voted to play Bridge Burning by Foo Fighters. Phil taps on the song to see who’s said what.

Looking at the song, Phil can see Dave’s really happy with this suggestion, and Taylor’s okay to play it, but Courteney doesn’t want to.

Phil likes this song, so he decides to respond and say he’ll play it.

Phil says he’ll play. He can play drums and sing, but on this song he’d like to play guitar.

Tapping ‘Respond’ takes him back to the setlist.

Phil decides to add a song himself.

He starts typing in the search box to bring up a list of songs.

Even though he chooses not to filter out songs they can’t play, he doesn’t see anything he likes.

He decides to let SetLister help him out.

SetLister suggests Wonderwall by Oasis.

Even though he can see Dave likes this song, Phil’s not keen so he swipes for another suggestion.

This is more like it!

And Taylor likes it too - so Phil swipes the other way to add the song. He could also use the add button at the bottom of the screen.

SetLister confirms that the song has been added.

Phil doesn’t want to add any more songs so he tells SetLister he’s done for now.

Meanwhile, Dave, Taylor and Courteney have all received a notifications. SetLister tells them about Phil’s suggestion, and they can go and vote on whether they want to play that song.
