Introduction
Could you use a little extra income each month? How about an extra $50 to help with the phone bill, or
something you can set aside for a vacation next summer. What if you spend a little time setting up and
promoting a niche website that will then continue to bring in cash month after month without too much
work?
I do just that by setting up niche websites that are monetized with affiliate products and Google
Adsense. On their own, these little sites may not seem like much, but over time, as you build more and
more of them those $30, $50 or even $100 per month start to add up.
This is part two of a two part report. You can get a copy of part one here:

In this short report I’ll show you how to build a list on your new site, monetize it and how to create a
sense of community around your new niche site.

Simple List Building Tips For Passive Income
You have your niche website up and running and are starting to get some traffic. Now it’s time to focus
on making it profitable. The first thing to do is to make sure you capture your readers email address so
you can keep bringing them back to your new niche site over and over again. Plus building a list will
allow you to promote affiliate offers directly to them. Let’s get started…
Signing Up For An Autoresponder Service
First, you’ll need an autoresponder service to capture peoples name and email addresses and then being
able to email them. I’m using Aweber. I’ve been using them since I first got started back in 2004 and
have always been very happy.
Aweber allows you to create all sorts of fun, interesting and responsive optin forms and makes it easy to
email your list in a variety of ways. More on that in a moment… Since this is the service I’m currently
using, the rest of this section will be based on my experience with this particular autoresponder service.
I’ve also heard a lot of great things about Feedblitz lately. I haven’t had a chance to give it a try yet, but
will be meeting the owner, Phil Hollows. I’m looking forward to talking to him about what’s unique and
different about Feedblitz and will report on my blog at www.AffiliateTreasureChest.com
Getting People On Your List
Your next job will be to get people that read your blog or come across your website to sign up for your
list. There are a couple of different things you can do here. Let’s start with the super simple stuff.
Add an optin box to your sidebar – Set up a new list and a webform in Aweber. Copy and paste the code
for the webform into your blog sidebar. If you are using WordPress, you can also use the Aweber plugin
and widget to make this even easier.
Determine what you will be mailing your readers about (we’ll cover that in more detail in the next
section) and create some compelling copy and a call to action that invites readers to join your list. Look
for examples on how to do this on my blog and on those of other good marketers. Tweak as needed for
your own market.
You can greatly improve your optin rate (how many people sign up for your list) by offering them
something of value in exchange for signing up. This can be a short report, an ebook, a coupon, an audio
file, a webinar … you name it. Just be sure to make it something interesting and of value to your target
audience.
Staying In Touch With Your List
Now let’s talk about how you’re going to stay in touch with your subscribers. There are a few different
ways to handle this. Let’s start with the technology aspect. Aweber gives you three different options for
sending emails to your readers.
© Susanne Myers www.DailyAffiliateTasks.com – You are welcome to share this report 6
Broadcast Emails
The simplest type of email you can send out and the easiest to understand is a broadcast email. You
simply compose your email and it goes out to everyone on your list. These work great for weekly or
monthly newsletter, or time-limited promotions (i.e. 50% off through next Thursday).
Blog Broadcasts
If you are running your niche website on a blogging platform like Wordpress (which I highly
recommend), you can set up something called Blog Broadcast. With it you can have Aweber
automatically generate email broadcasts with fresh content from your blog. You can set it to go out
anytime you publish a new blog post, or have it mail out a digest either every so often (i.e. every day,
every Tuesday) or once a certain number of new blog posts has been published (i.e. after 5 new blog
posts).
The beauty of this system is that you set it up once and you’re broadcast emails are taken care of. Using
Aweber’s templates, it’s easy to create a nice looking email that goes out regularly to your readers
without any extra work on your part.
Here’s a tutorial you can follow to set up your own blog broadcast:
http://www.affiliatetreasurechest.com/128/aweber-blog-broadcast-tutorial/
Give it a try and see if this works for you. Keep in mind though that you should add fresh content to your
blog regularly when using this method.
Autoresponder Messages
By far my favorite method of getting emails out to my list and generate passive income is to use
autoresponder messages. Here you queue up a certain number of emails to go out to each new
subscriber. Message 1 usually goes out right after a new person signs up for your list. Then you specify
when you want them to get the next email.
I like to set up my autoresponders to go out once a day for the first 5 to 7 days and then once or twice
per week. Make sure you alternate between good content and offers (more on that in a bit).
Last but not least, remember that you can mix and match these methods. In some of my niche websites
I publish a weekly newsletter via the broadcast email method, but also have a series of A/R messages
that go out as well.
On my affiliate marketing blog I use the Blog Broadcast method, but also send out additional broadcast
messages when I have something interesting to share or a great offer to make. Play around with these
options and see what works best for you and your audience.
Next, let’s talk about monetization …
© Susanne Myers www.DailyAffiliateTasks.com – You are welcome to share this report 7
Monetizing Your New Niche Website
I’m assuming you’re in this business to make money – I am. And that means we need to monetize our
affiliate niche sites. Let’s start with the basics and then move into some other options that I find more
profitable. This is by no means an all-inclusive discussion on the topic. It’s a quick introduction with
enough info to get you started. Once you have these things in place, read more about marketing, try
new things, improve how you’re selling and get better at it as you gain more experience. I’ve been doing
this for quite a few years and I still learn new marketing techniques each month and get better at
implementing what I already know.
Super Simple – Google Adsense
Let’s start with something very simple – Google
Adsense. The idea here is that you allow Google to
display ads they think is a good fit on your site. If
someone clicks on an advertisement, you get a little
money (anywhere from a few cents to a couple of
dollars).
This is the first thing I started with and I still get a check
every single month. In the beginning, I was only making
a few cents per day, but as I added more content to my
sites and started getting more traffic, those cents
turned into dollars. I’m not supposed to share my Google Earnings according to their TOS, but I can tell
you that this one check has paid for my mortgage for the past few years.
With that said, it’s not always the most profitable way to monetize a site. Yes, it is passive and yes it’s
quick and easy to set up. But there are other ways to profit from your site. We’ll talk about those next.
For now, go ahead and sign up for a Google Adsense account once your site is up and running and you
have at least 10 articles or blog posts up. Once your account is approved, drop those ads in and start to
profit from your site.

More Profitable: Affiliate Offers
Over the years, I’ve found that I can make more money with affiliate marketing by making offers in three
different ways on my niche sites. I start by looking for one or two good products for each niche. I sign up
for the affiliate program and start promoting in three different ways.
In Content
The easiest way to market affiliate products is directly within the content of your blog posts and articles.
For example, if I am writing a post about email marketing and mention “Aweber” – my autoresponder
service of choice, I link that to my affiliate link for their service.
You can do the same with just about any service or membership. I recommend you try and use the
products you’re promoting which makes it even easier to do this.
As you start creating other forms of content like short reports, videos etc. you can easily include affiliate
offers there as well by simply mentioning them and linking to them.
Sidebar Ads
Another option to feature some of your favorite products is to add small ads (either text, image or both)
to the sidebar of your blog or website. You can see this in action on my affiliate marketing blog at
www.AffiliateTreasureChest.com.
I like the fact that I can set this up once and I’m good to go for the next few months. A word of caution
though… it’s easy to go overboard with all those side bar ads. You don’t want to give your readers too
many options or they will chose non. (“A confused mind doesn’t buy”).
Email Marketing
By far the most profitable way for me to market affiliate products is via email. I start by sharing great
content on my sites and inviting readers to join my list. Once they do, they receive a series of emails that
are a combination of great content and affiliate offers. If the offer is a good match for them and you
have earned your readers trust (with your free content), it’s easy to convince them to buy.
I continually add more messages to my autoresponder sequences that alternate between free content
and offers. You can read more about my exact method for doing this (complete with templates and real-
life examples) in this short report
Affiliate Shortcut – Email Marketing
Where To Find Affiliate Products To Promote
There are a couple of different ways I go about finding good affiliate products for my niches. I keep looking through them until I find several programs I’m comfortable promoting.
© Susanne Myers www.DailyAffiliateTasks.com – You are welcome to share this report 9
Of course I also keep an eye out on a regular basis to see if I come across something new or better. It’s always a good idea to test which offers are converting best and get the best feedback from your visitors.
Search Engines
My first stop is often Google. I simply search for products. Since I mostly deal with information product I look for things like ebooks, membership, report etc. The basic search looks like this:
“keyword + ebook”
I like to search with the quotes around it at first and see if I get results. If not, try searching without quotes. Another good search query is to use the keyword + affiliate / partner / referral etc.
Big Affiliate Networks
My next stop is usually the big affiliate networks. I like them in particular for smaller niche sites since I can promote several different products (even in different niches) and get one monthly check. Makes bookkeeping pretty simple.
I also like the big networks because I can get some data on how products are performing and what products are performing best without having to test it myself.
For info product, my favorite is Clickbank. For physical products I like Commission Junction and ShareASale.
To find the actual products, I take a look at the different broad categories and think of where my niche would fall. Sometimes it’s an easy match. For example, if my niche is weightloss for new moms, the products will be in the diet and weightloss section.
For other niches you may have to do some more digging. Keep thinking broader and broader until you find one or more categories it could fall under and start looking. You may also want to search for some of your main keywords in the search function of these sites.
Other Niche Affiliate Sites
Chances are you’re not the first to move into a particular niche. In fact, I’d recommend looking for other successful sites before you do.
Take the time to look for a few of your competitors (other affiliate websites on the same or similar topic) and look at what products they are promoting. What other ways are they using to monetize their websites. Do a little spying to come up with ideas for your own site and then test and see what’s most profitable for you.

Extra Tip – Just Ask
If you come across a great product that’s a perfect fit for your niche, but you don’t see anything on the website about an affiliate, referral or partner program, don’t just give up. Take the time to email the website owner, introduce yourself and your website and ask if he has an affiliate program.
One of two things usually happens…
1) He does have an affiliate program but doesn’t actively promote it on the website. At this point, the owner will usually send you a link or an invitation to join.
2) He has either no idea what you are talking about, or simply hasn’t set up an affiliate program. In this case, send a quick note back about how easy it is to set up an affiliate program and offer your help to get it set up. Usually I just need to point a website owner to the right resources to get it set up.
Of course not everyone will agree to set up an affiliate program. In that case I just politely ask that they keep my name and email on file and let me know if they decide to start one down the road.
Now it’s time to get to work. Pick one of the strategies I outlined above and see what affiliate products you can find. Rinse and repeat until you have a few good ones.
Next, take the time to buy the products. Pay attention as you go through the sales process. If there are any stumbling blocks in the process you want to make your potential customers aware of this and how to maneuver around them.
Once you get the product, use it. You want to be able to write a thorough review and make a good recommendation to your website visitors. Don’t be afraid to point out the negative – it will help build trust and credibility.
Speaking of trust and credibility … another way to build both is to build a community around your niche website. In the next section I’ll show you how to do just that.

Building A Community With Blog Commenting And Social Media
The web has changed over the past few years from a never-ending resource library to an interactive
medium. Sure you can still build static websites and make a little money here and there as an affiliate,
but you’ll do much better if build a community around your site. Not only will your readers thank you for
the opportunity to ask questions and make comments, but it also means that you don’t have to write
every single word of content on your sites. Let’s talk about this community thing a bit…
Why You Need A Sense Of Community in 2012
Almost everybody I know has a Facebook profile and a twitter account and quite a few people have
personal blogs or comment regularly on other people’s blogs. The web has changed from a space where
we read or watch something to a place where we communicate with others that have like interests.
This also means that your target market has the opportunity to send you plenty of traffic, readers,
subscribers and customers 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And your best chance of tapping into this type
of word of mouth advertising is to build a sense of community.
As a bonus all that “social chatter” will help you in the search engines as well, sending more free traffic
to your site. I like to think of this as “getting the ball rolling”. At first it may seem like a lot of work with
little return when you get active in social media, forums and other blogs. But as you build momentum
it’ll get easier and easier as others help with the effort of spreading the world about your website.
Blog Commenting Etiquettes
The first place to start building a community your own website. I’ve mentioned several times throughout
this report that I use Wordpress for almost all my niche websites. One of the reasons is that it has a
commenting feature right build in. This allows my readers to leave comments, share tips and ask
questions.
Take advantage of this fact by
1) Inviting readers to comment regularly.
2) Responding to comments in a timely fashion.
I have to admit, I’m not always good about responding to comments right away, but whenever I do, I get
a much better response. More comments are left and I notice that my posts get recommended and
shared more. Ideally you want to check on and respond to comments several times a day. If that’s a bit
much, set a time once a day (i.e. first thing in the morning) to read and answer comments. Try to
respond to as many of them as possible.
© Susanne Myers www.DailyAffiliateTasks.com – You are welcome to share this report 12
Commenting On Other Blogs
Commenting on other blogs is another great way to help expand your reach and become part of the
larger community in a niche. Make it a habit to comment on several blogs per day.
I have a feed reader set up with several blogs in each of my niches. This allows me to log in and quickly
see who has some new content that I may want to leave a comment on.
Don’t comment just to get a link or just to get your name out there. Always add to the conversation and
provide something of value. In other words, think about what you can share before you start typing.
Commenting on other blogs will also help you build a relationship with the blog owner that can lead to
other opportunities (like guest blog posts for example or cross blog conversations) down the road.
Getting More Bank For Your Buck (or better your time) With Social Media
Last but not least let’s talk about how you can supercharge all your efforts in creating content and
promoting your site with social media.
I already pointed out that being mentioned on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and
LinkedIn can help you with search engine rankings. It’s also a nice source of traffic and gives your
readers an avenue to share more of your stuff.
And that’s a good thing in more ways than one. First and foremost it means less work for you. You don’t
have to spend a lot of extra time marketing your site once you get the ball rolling and get people sharing
your content across various social media and social bookmarking sites.
But there are some other benefits as well. By having others recommend your site to their friends and
followers, the recommendation will seem even more trustworthy than if you promote your own posts
and articles.
Having people talk about you on social media also helps establish you as more of an expert. Your fellow
bloggers and marketers will take notice which opens doors to all sorts of possibilities from guest
blogging opportunities to JVs (Joint Ventures).
Go out there and share all that awesome content you’re creating for your niche. Create a little buzz and
watch your community take over from there.
