Why do we interview? What are we looking to assess?
Why interview?
• Values
• Mission
• Commitment
What interviews are NOT!
The RIGHT way to conduct interviews
• Your interviews should be conversations, not interrogations!
• Your aim should be to put the interviewee at ease, and allow them to share what makes them a good candidate
Brainstorm:• Interview – who are we
looking for?• What questions do we
ask to help find them?
Bad interview questions - examples
• Misleading/irrelevant– What kind of music do you like?– If you were an animal, what animal would you
be?
• Vague/unfocused– Tell me about yourself.– What are your strengths/weaknesses?
• Exclusionary/adversarial– Which political party are you aligned with?– You’ve never worked with children before – how
do we know you’re up to it?
Good interview questions
• Why is social mobility important to you?
• What career/profession do you aspire to in the future, and how can Team Up help you with this?
• Is there a particular subject you’d like to specialise in?
Over to you!
Write 5 interview questions
Where and when interviews will be conducted?
• End of second week of October is when interviews MUST be completed
• Room booking information will be sent out later on
• If you book a time, stick to it!• Take detailed notes to feedback to
team
DBS Checks – IMPORTANT
• Formerly CRB checks, necessary for those working with children or vulnerable groups to undertake
• Each interview you arrange, ensure that the candidate brings THREE pieces of documentation with them
1. A valid passport2. A recent utility bill (issued in last 3
months)3. A photo driving licence
After the interview
• Input the passport number, driving licence number and address on utility bill into a secure spreadsheet – do this for each candidate
• When all your scheduled interviews are completed, send the spreadsheet to Evangeline at [email protected]
• If you DO NOT do this, Rising Leaders will be prohibited by law from working with children unaccompanied
