SERVICES TO THE LNG INDUSTRYDELIVERING INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS THROUGH LEADING-EDGE EXPERTISE GLOBALLY
We deal with all aspects and phases of liquefied naturalgas (LNG) and floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG)
developments. This comprises onshore liquefaction andregasification, floating liquefaction and regasification and allassociated upstream and downstream elements including gasproduction, pipeline transmission and distribution, LNG andCNG for powering road and rail vehicles.
Our involvement at the earliest possible phase of majorprojects liaising with potential stakeholders includinggovernments, developers, lenders and major gas fieldowners means we often influence investment decisions.Following project sanction, we can design and engineer all aspects of LNG and FLNG developments.
Oil and gas Environment Ports and coastal Power
Our oil and gas specialists realise the growing impact LNG has in today’s
gas transportation business and are keen to support our clients by providing expert engineering and project management consultancy in this field. The diversity of our experience coupled with our extensive resources puts us in prime position to offer our clients cost effective, timely and sustainable solutions.
We are working in these LNG sub-sectors: onshore liquefaction and regasification, floating liquefaction and regasification and all associated upstream and downstream elements including gas production, pipeline transmission and distribution, LNG and CNG for powering road and rail vehicles.
Mott MacDonald’s highly experienced staff has proven consulting and engineering expertise in advisory, front end, EPCM and PMC services.
Our global LNG capabilities and experience, when combined with in-house ports, shipping, power, environmental and project management offerings, puts Mott MacDonald in a unique position.
Our environmental and social experts have supported our engineering teams
in all phases of LNG project development as well as provided input to gas master planning and pre-feasibility studies. We have in-depth understanding of coastal processes from undertaking assessments on a wide range of infrastructure projects.
Our in-house social experts have built a wide understanding of stakeholder issues and concerns from numerous projects globally.
Our multisector experience allows us to assess projects from gas gathering and trunkline feed infrastructure, through liquefaction and regasification facilities, to interfacing power developments and distribution systems. We act as owner’s and lender’s consultants and provide strategic advice to governments.
Our ports and coastal experts have extensive experience in the planning,
design, procurement and construction supervision of marine facilities associated with LNG import and export terminals.
We understand that a critical success factor for most LNG terminals is the need for appropriate and cost effective marine infrastructure which facilitates the meeting of operational project demands. Selection of such marine infrastructure, including exposed jetties, breakwater protected loading platforms and single point mooring systems, needs to consider a range of factors including in particular local meteorological, oceanographic and geotechnical conditions alongside marine and onshore operational requirements.
We provide all related engineering services in-house for LNG projects. We have expertise across the project lifecycle, from scoping and feasibility studies through design to construction management and technical due diligence.
Our dedicated maritime team incorporates leading specialists with an established global track record in the LNG industry having undertaken projects across the Middle East, Africa, Caribbean, Indian Sub-Continent and the Far East.
Our power specialists have been involved in the planning and design
of gas turbine plants worldwide for over 40 years.
Our roles include detailed design, owner’s engineer, lender’s engineer and general technical advisory services to support our clients in meeting their project objectives.
We provide our clients with multidisciplinary teams to cover the entire project lifecycle from feasibility, environment and planning studies, full architectural and engineering design, preparation of construction tender documentation, technical specification, assessment and recommendations of tenders, cost planning and tendering control, contract supervision and cost management through to final account and completion.
Some of our recent gas turbine power projects have been integrated throughout the world in locations such as China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jamaica, Australia, Qatar, Oman, Europe and UK.

We were contracted as lender’s technical
advisor to conduct a review and assessment of the technical issues to identify project risks for a FLNG regasification in Pakistan.
Assessment scope of work included:
▪ Technical and environmental ▪ Contractual risk and liabilities ▪ Project execution eg capabilities and schedule
We assessed the feasibility of a LNG
import facility to be installed in Mombasa to supply fuel to thermal power generating plants and local industry in and also identified sources of gas. Mott MacDonald was able to co-ordinate a multidisciplinary team to travel to Kenya to perform the work. The final result was a feasibility study that incorporated all of the key factors needed to make an informed decision on the feasibility of importing natural gas by LNG, and an appropriate site.
We executed a full conceptual
engineering design before proceeding to a full process design for LNG transfer from LNGC to FSRU at dockside, boil-off gas management and high pressure gas export. The project also required a new jetty design to suit the LNGC and FSRU. We provided the detail design of the terminal gas reception facility and provided full procurement/ expediting/inspection activities.

We provided conceptual
engineering, FEED and procurement support for new-build 500MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant at the South Hook LNG terminal (which can supply ~25% of the UK’s gas demand). Our scope included the fuel gas supply to CHP plant and the systems to recover heat (250MW Th.) for LNG regasification, which will provide OPEX and environmental benefits.
