Purpose: Serve Hser Ner Moo Center by providing a healthcare needs assessment and basic healthcare screening to improve health of the refugee participants

• Achieve a better understanding of the role of the case worker in meeting medical needs

• Identify barriers to accessing healthcare

• Improve knowledge regarding resources for medical care

• Determine needs of community through focus groups and/or surveys with participants

• Find resources available based on findings from the needs assessment

• Provide services including hearing, dental and nutrition screening

• Survey input provided by Asian Assoc., IRC, Catholic Community Services, and Hser Ner Moo staff

• 30 total participants identified as African, Nepali, Karen-Burma, and Russian

• Health care needs: Transportation (57%), Cost/Payment options (63%), Health insurance (80%)

• Perceived obstacles: Transportation (63%), Cost (67%)

• Health care received from: ER (53%), 67% of Russians said PCP

• Referrals come from caseworkers

• When asked about health insurance...

• 50% have it, but interested in learning more

• 37% do not have it, but interested in learning more

• 10% have it, feel comfortable with using it

• 0% do not have it, don’t think they need it
