Israel Action Violating UN Security Council resolu- tions, Iran recently had two ballistic missile tests. As a result, the US Depart- ment of Treasury has taken action to sanction entities involved in procure- ment for Iran's illicit ballistic missile program. On January 17, Representative Eliot Engel made the following state- ment: “I applaud today's announcement of new sanctions against Iran's ballistic missile program. Iran's missile program poses a direct threat to our allies and continues to destabilize the re- gion. Iranian leaders should be on no- tice that the nuclear deal won't excuse their continued dangerous behavior. With the nuclear deal now in place, we must be more vigilant than ever to hold Iran to its commitments and continue to crack down on its harmful activities.” The Law Men will meet this week Thank you to our CSS security team this week. Career Night at the RJC! 1. Senior Project Manager, Creative, NY Viacom
2. Project Manager, North American Merchandising
NY– Estee lauder Company
THE RJC will be hosting a career night event. We are looking for volunteers in the fields of technology, healthcare, finance, law and oth-er fields to help run this event.
The RJC recently complet-ed a search for its next Yoetzet Halacha. After in-terviewing several very qualified candidates, the search committee invited 3 finalists to present a shiur and participate in a meet and greet with a group of women representing dif-ferent age-ranges across
the community. It then made a recommendation to the Board, where it was approved with unanimous sup-port.
We are pleased to announce that Julia Baruch has agreed to serve as the RJC’s new Yoetzet Halacha. Her initial role will be along the lines of the classic Yoetzet Halacha, answering questions, offering Taharat HaM-ishpacha-oriented classes and addressing issues about Jewish family life and related information from the psychological, medical and social disciplines. We’d also like to thank Tova Warburg Sinensky, who has served as the RJC’s interim Yoetzet Halacha for the past few months.
Julia is a recent graduate of the second class of the U.S. Yoatzot Halacha Fellows Program of Nishmat’s Miriam Glaubach Center. Prior to studying at Nishmat, she studied at the Stella K. Abraham Beit Midrash for Women – Migdal Oz for one year, and then Julia grad-uated from Columbia University cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology.
Julia currently works at the Child Mind Institute as a clinical program assistant and she plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. She grew up in Englewood, NJ and currently lives on the Upper West Side with her husband, David, and son, Jacob. In addition to serving the Riverdale community, Julia also serves as the Yoetzet Halacha at Congregation Ke-hilath Jeshurun and West Side Institutional Synagogue in Manhattan. Julia can be reached by phone at 929-274-0628 or by email at [email protected]. All women of the Riverdale community are cordially invited to a meet and greet with Julia scheduled for 8:15 PM on Tuesday, February 16th, at the home of Tara and Dani Miodownik (3935 Blackstone Avenue, Apt 8A). Refreshments will be served. RSVP Requested. Q u e s t i o n s ? C o n t a c t Y a e l S c h l e n g e r , at [email protected]
February 20 - Joshua Muravchik The RJC is pleased to welcome Joshua Muravchik, an adjunct professor at
the DC-based Institute of World Politics and a former fellow at the Foreign
Policy Institute of Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced
International Studies (SAIS). A prolific author whose work has appeared in
all major US newspapers and intellectual magazines, Joshua Muravchik
recently published Making David into Goliath which traces the process by
which material pressures and intellectual fashions reshaped world opinion
of Israel. Alan Dershowitz calls it: “A great book,...a must-read for anybody
who cares about peace in the Middle East, who cares about the survival of
the state of Israel, who cares about America’s relations with Israel.”
March 5 - Danny Ayalon The RJC is honored to host Ambassador Daniel “Danny” Ayalon as Scholar
in Residence. Danny Ayalon is an Israeli diplomat, columnist and
politician. He served as Deputy Foreign Minister and a member of
the Knesset for Yisrael Beitenu. He served as Israeli Ambassador to
the United States from 2002 until 2006. He frequently writes in Israeli and

Journal.

Many Chassidic and Kabbalistic sources describe the focus of this period as strengthening our resolve in areas of Taharat Hamishpacha, by studying and keeping the laws of family purity. As the Riverdale Mikvah has embarked on a rebuilding effort – what better time to refresh our knowledge of the fundamentals of Taharat Hamishpacha and rebuild our connections to our spouses and to Hashem.
