NOW THOSE ATTACKS HAVE GROWN EXPONENTIALLY. IT WAS GOVERNMENT CUSTOMERS AT 60 PERCENT, UP SIGNIFICANTLY FROM 37 PERCENT IN 2017. IN 2018, 61 PERCENT OF SERVICE PROVIDERS SAID THEY MONITORED OUTBOUND AND CROSS-BOUND ATTACKS, UP FROM THE 52 PERCENT. With the growing importance of cloud-based services to enterprises and consumers, attackers are increasingly targeting these services with DDoS attacks. 2 IMPORTANCE OF CLOUD For the first time ever, a DDoS attack topped 1 Tbps in size. A few days later, a 1.7 Tbps attack was recorded. 3 THE TERABYTE ERA The most common DDoS motivations, once again, are criminals demonstrating their capabilities and online-gaming related attacks.
