This is a period of major changes in Rotary at-large and the Richardson East Rotary Club. Today, several club leaders will discuss a few of those changes related to our fund raiser, our signature service project and sponsoring of an Interact Club. Signature Service Project: Our club went through a strategic planning process during the previous Rotary year. One of the key items that emerged from that effort was a commitment to finding and implementing a Signature Service Project for the Club. The planning team acknowledged that the Club is known for its successful and vis- ible Casino fund raiser, but does not have a major, visible and ongoing service project in which the majority of the club can partici- pate. A committee chaired by President Bruce MacPherson has proposed one that in- volves a partnership with the City of Rich- 2015-2016 Rotary eme “Be A Giſt to the World” Phone: (972) 889-3825 Fax: (972) 889-3827 GEORGE S. ardson. Your Club board of directors has accepted the idea and authorized the committee to work with the City to prepare a formal Memorandum of Understanding for both organizations. The Club would partner with the City in designing and building its first park designed for those with special needs. The Club would be involved from the start in design, would hold an annual community picnic promoting the park and would be responsible for a garden area at the park with RERC signage recognition. Interact: Rotary International considers the concept of getting youth involved in Rotary a key to Rotary’’s long term viability. Thanks to the efforts of another committee, we have the personnel and framework set up at Pearce High School to sponsor one beginning next fall. The committee has commitments from the school prin-cipal and two staff members who will be responsible for the club. Recruitment of students will occur in the fall, with plans for the Camp RYLA participants from Pearce to be leaders of the recruitment effort. Fund Raiser: It is significant to note that this section is labeled “fund raiser” and not “Casino.” A fund raising committee led by Scott Zimmerman has held numerous meetings already to plan the 2017 fund raiser, and one
of the key changes proposed is a name change. (see the proposed logo). Casino-style gambling will continue to be a major part of the party, but will not be the emphasis in selling it to the community and our sponsor-partners. Also, we will have other games and activities at the party to try
and broaden interest and participation. The committee also has proposed a venue change as we have outgrown the Civic Center location. The new one is St. Paul the Apostle Parish Center at Floyd Road and Spring Valley. Among other changes: ticketing and silent auction will all be done electronically using an outside vendor that will pro-vide tablets at the event; sponsor-partners will be approached throughout the year and offered packages that can include club membership and other perks.
