Sermon 01-03-2015-making your family glorious

Text: Eph. 5:22-33; 6:1-4

Wives to submit to own husbands

Husband is the head of the wife – Head means he leads, thinks and sets the direction for the family, is the priest of the family.

As head, he is the source of life of the family, cut him off and the family is dead!

Wives’ submission is in “everything” that is godly – God comes first before husband – Mt 22:37; Same applies to the husband – God first –Lk14:26-27.

Husband to love the wife, same way Christ loves the Church.

Husband to love wife as his own body

Man to leave and cleave – not a Mummy’s pet

Husband love, wife reverence – respect, that word in Greek is “phobeo” meaning “to strike with fear”, “be afraid”. Not a slavish fear but a fear that comes with respect for the man, even when it appears you earn more or know more.

Respect yourselves before your children. It’s the picture you paint of your spouse before your children that remains in the children’s mind and determines how they perceive him or her.

A Holy family

A Healthy family

A Homely family

A Hospitable family

A Holding family

(United, doing things together)

A Heeding family (guided

by the Word of God)

A Honourable family

A Hearty family (loving

and showing love to others)

A Helping family

A Humble family (not proud or boastful, no matter what you possess)

A Heavenly-focused family

O give us homes built firm upon the Saviour,

Where Christ is Head, and Counsellor and Guide;

Where ev'ry child is taught His love and favor

And gives his heart to Christ, the crucified:How sweet to know that tho' his footsteps

waverHis faithful Lord is walking by his side!
