So what does God think of pride?

His dislike is so strong it is termed as hate

Proverbs 8:13 KJV The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward [perverse] mouth, do I hate

So what is the big deal about pride?

It brings nothing but contention and strife

Proverbs 13:10 KJV Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.


It causes us to stumble and fall

Proverbs 16:18 KJV Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall


It is ungodly, and displeasing to God

1 John 2:16 KJV For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

How does pride cause us problems?

Prevents an honest look at our actions and intentions

Ephesians 4:31-32 KJV 31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.


Pushes forgiveness away from us instead of into our hearts and

lives

Mark 11:25 KJV And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.


Luke 17:4 KJV And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Colossians 3:13 KJV Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Even if others may not really deserve forgiveness, it needs to come.


Supplies stubbornness with all it needs to wreck our lives and

38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. 41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

Sometimes it is easier to be stubborn than to be peaceful

Sometimes it is easier to be “right” in our own stubborn minds than to do right by those around us

Sometimes it is easier to strike back than to forgive

Sometimes it is easier to get even than to forgive

Sometimes it is easier to feud than to forgive





















Romans 12:17-19 KJV 17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Getting even will wreck our lives

Getting Jesus will bless our lives

Getting even does not satisfy

Getting Jesus will satisfy better than anything we can know





















How can we not “get even?”

Romans 12:20-21 KJV 20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.



Treat your “enemy” the way you would want/should be treated

Let Jesus help you keep evil from your heart

Practice and seek self-control












Proverbs 16:32 KJV He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

1 Peter 3:10 KJV For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:


Let go of anger
