Management

The global management of outputs and resulting waste is always considered within every study or project. As a result, we have equipment and means for neutralization of effluent in order to return water of sufficient quality to the head of the process for its re-use. For the solid wastes we consider the transport and disposal in controlled spillways or their delivery to an authorized company for waste management.

Our main activities are:

• Filtering

• Centrifugation

• Thermal Desortion

• Industrial Cleaning

• ATEX Dredging

CENTRIFUGATION

- 20 -

The force used by our centrifugation equipments (rotation speed 3.500 r.p.m) allows gravity separation into two or even three-phase components of the mixture, depending on the density of the elements.

 The lack of water vapour

and the need to reach the widest possible separation is solved with our mobile boilers.

 Polyelectrolyte dosing

units and additives tanks to separate those elements emulsified in the aqueous phase of the waste.

 Our filtration and

centrifugation equip-ments require less area than other methods of implementation, thus minimizing the impact on the landscape.

THERMAL DESORTION

- 21 -

Decontamination of soil after potentially polluting activities has become important as a result of customer awareness and legislation that promotes ecological and sustainable growth.

 Expansion and moderni-

zation come together to respond to this new framework.

 From our experience in

collaborating with other companies, Sereco is able to offer a final treatment for dry material resulting from the separation and dewatering of contami-nated soils.

“On site” treatment with mobile desorption plants offers a real and economically viable solution– to to the problems of soil contamination (oil, mercury, etc ...)

Soil structure remains intact , without ecological alteration, after the

desorption of organic contaminants.

THERMAL DESORTION

- 22 -

 Especially used in areas

contaminated by solid state hydro-carbons and/or mer-cury.

 Increasing soil temperature

from 90 ºC to 540 ºC causes pollutants with a low boiling point to be vaporized to a gaseous state thus sepa-rating them from the earth.

 We apply further emission

treatment for volatilized con-taminants.

 Sereco provides appropriate

solutions for “on site” reco-very of soil contaminants in response to a lack of ade-quate facilities.

 Soil recovery and its later

reuse avoid transport costs for its external treatment.

We are able to deal with high concentrations of pollutants and to offer prior attention to all our decontamination projects.

CO2 BLAST CLEANING

- 25 -

CO2 blasting works because of three primary factors: pellet kinetic energy, thermal shock effect and thermal-kinetic effect. Cold Jet optimizes blast performance for each application by combining these forces and adjusting:

compressed air pressure blast nozzle type (velocity

distribution) CO2 pellet size and density pellet mass rate and flux

density (particles per unit area per second)

The Cold Jet process incorporates high velocity (supersonic) nozzles for surface preparation and coating removal applications. Since kinetic impact force is a product of the pellet mass and velocity over time, the Cold Jet delivery system achieves the greatest impact force possible from a solid CO2 pellet by propelling the pellets to the highest velocities attainable in the blasting industry.

Even at high impact velocities and direct head-on impact angles, the kinetic effect of solid CO2 pellets is minimal when compared to other media (grit, sand, PMB). This is due to the relative softness of a solid CO2, which is not as dense and hard, as

other projectile media. Also, the pellet changes phase from a solid to a gas almost instantaneously upon impact, which effectively provides an almost nonexistent coefficient of restitution in the impact equation. Very little impact energy is transferred into the coating or substrate, so the Cold Jet blasting process is considered to be nonabrasive.

Instantaneous sublimation (phase change from solid to gas) of CO2 pellet upon impact absorbs maximum heat from the very thin top layer of surface coating or contaminant. Maximum heat is absorbed due to latent heat of sublimation. The very rapid transfer of heat into the pellet from the coating top layer creates an extremely large temperature differential between successive micro-layers within the coating. This sharp thermal gradient produces localized high shear stresses between the micro-layers. The shear stresses produced are also dependent upon the coating thermal conductivity and thermal coefficient of expansion/contraction, as well as the thermal mass of the underlying substrate. The high shear produced over a very brief expanse of time causes rapid micro-crack propagation between the layers leading to

contamination and/or coating final bond failure at the surface of the substrate.

CO2 BLAST CLEANING

- 27 -

The combined impact energy dissipation and extremely rapid heat transfer between the pellet and the surface cause instantaneous sublimation of the solid CO2 into gas. The gas expands to nearly 800 times the volume of the pellet in a few milliseconds in what is effectively a "Micro-explosion" at the point of impact. The "Micro-explosion," as the pellet changes to gas, is further enhanced for lifting thermally-fractured coating particles from the substrate. This is because of the pellet's lack of rebound energy, which tends to distribute its mass along the surface during the impact. The CO2 gas expands outward along the surface and its resulting "explosion shock front" effectively provides an area of high pressure focused between the surface and the thermally fractured coating particles. This results in a very efficient lifting force to carry the particles away from the surface.

“Dewatering systems are essential to allow excavations under dry conditions.”

DEWATERING

- 28 -

Dewatering in construction, is the removal or draining groundwater or surface water from a construction side, by pumping. On a construction site, this dewatering may be implemented before subsurface excavation for foundation, shoring or cellar space to lower the water table. This involves frequently the use of submersible “dewatering” pumps, or application of vacuum to wellpoints.

Wellpoint dewatering systems enable to lower the groundwater table adequately for deep and large construction sites. It has proven to be a very flexible system. The water from high permeable soils is pumped from wellpoints, installed along the trench of the site. The wellpoints are jetted and spaced to obtain an efficient drawdown against lowest capacity. The wellpoints with integral strainers are joined to transparent flexible hoses, which are connected

by quick release couplers to the ring main header pipeline. Wellpoint dewatering is done either by gravity or vacuum. The Wellpoint dewatering system utilizes vacuum piston pumps or self priming, vacuum assisted centrifugal pumps.

DEWATERING

- 29 -

Deep well typically consists of a borehole fitted with a slotted liner and an electric submersible pump. As water is pumped from a deep well, a hydraulic gradient is formed and water flows into the well forming a cone of depression around the well in which there is a little or no water remaining in the pore spaces of the surrounding soil. Deep wells work best in soils with a permeability of k_ 1x10 -3 to 1x10 105 m/s.; the amount of drawdown that a well can achieve is limited only by the size of the pump and the soils permeability.

ATEX DREDGING

- 30 -

Sereco commitment to Quality and Environment has led us to work with a sustainable growth and development policy aiming to minimize environmental impact while increasing worker safety during extraction work.

A result of this policy is our

ATEX sludge extraction ma-chine, a pioneer in Spain.

 Our ecological dredger, which is

remote controlled, allows us to empty the sludge from the bottom of the ponds resulting from industry, mining, marinas, canals, etc. The waste is pumped to the head of our facilities to be treated in the most quiet and clean way.

 Its high extraction capacity (63

m3/h) makes it the ideal accessory for our filtration and dewatering equipment and, together, they form a team capable of dealing with the most difficult jobs, reliably, safely and economically.

The operation produces no turbidity or dirt in the water and makes this

system ideal for work in areas where great care is needed.

 Our system involves the use

of a floating pontoon whose articulated arm can extract sludge without the need to empty and stop the activity of the collector.

 Sereco commitment to

Health and Safety at work and the radio controlled operation allow work to be undertaken in a potentially explosive atmosphere. Our dredge is ATEX certified (Protocol No. LOM 09 ATEX 8049 X) for Zone I classified location.

Workers do no have to enter

the area to carry out the work so reducing potential hazards and danger.

 Avoiding risks along with the

high extraction capacity have reduced the working times and the extraction costs considerably.

As hard and solidified as the sludge may be, our extractor will be able to

remove it and to transport it easily without producing and damage.
