Greetings!

Tis I, Vince (Vinnie) Geangan, bul-

letin editor of Steilacoom High School’s

Key Club with your monthly newsletter.

If you are a usual reader of my newslet-

ter then you will definitely notice that

the format is completely different. That

is good for the new school year and it’s

always good to try something new

right?

I’m excited for the new school

year, are you? With the new year also

comes new service projects that I en-

courage every one to come to these

events and help the community. Key

clubbers are known throughout the

community and are loved even by the

mayor of Steilacoom, Ron Lucas.

Also, please turn in your dues if

you had not already. That would make

our treasurer, Johanna Forbes’s job a

lot easier. If we get our dues turned in

on time, we can get an award at

DCON. Don’t forget that at the end of

the rainbow is our treat, DCON which

will be a lot of fun; I assure you. So en-

joy the rest of the newsletter.

In love and service

Vince (Vinnie) Geangan

The Shack is Closed

The Sugar Shack is finally closed

until next year and I just want to give a

BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped.

We have raised over $1,400 in profit over

three months, and that means the club

has MORE money to bring MORE people

to DCON!

I also want to give an applause to

the three people who earned the most

hours. At third place is the very hand-

some Vince Geangan, second comes

Tristan Linna. And first place goes to Den-

ny Lim!!

I just want to say THANK YOU again

for everyone’s hard work despite the

blazing hot temperatures. I also want to

encourage the Key Clubbers who are

not seniors to help out with the shack

when summer comes around the corner.

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT

What is the Eliminate Project?

This project is a joint project with

Kiwanis and UNICEF to internation-

ally eliminate maternal and neo-

natal tetanus.

What is MNT?

In 30 countries around the

world, maternal and neonatal

tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn

the joy of childhood into a

tragedy. MNT kills one baby

every nine minutes. Its effects

are excruciating– tiny new-

borns suffer repeated, painful

convulsions and extreme sensi-

tivity to light and touch. There

is little hope of survival. And

tetanus kills mothers to.

Who Suffers from MNT?

MNT is caused when tetanus

spores, found in soil everywhere,

comes into contact with open

cuts during childbirth. This disease

strikes poorest of the poor, the ge-

ographically hard to reach and

those without health care.

$1.80 is enough to save a

mother and her newborn’s

life.
