The Oxford Academy Key Club Newsletter
Hello Awesome Oxford Academy Key Clubbers!
With school in full swing, it is hard to get caught up in the moment and get behind on our work sometimes. Prioritizing time to study and volunteer becomes increasingly more difficult. A lot of the times, we get to lazy to come out and volunteer or feel that we would use the time more effectively otherwise. Try and set goals for yourself to serve at least a certain number of hours each month!
Since it is a new school year, it means that every Key Clubber has to reapply to become a member again this year. The membership for Key Club includes an $11 fee. Most peo-ple are deterred by the fact that they have to pay to volunteer, but the money goes to the district and international organization. The money acts as an insurance for your safety, a donation to the Pediatric Trauma Program, and a collective scholarship fund that Key Club gives out at the end of the year at District Convention.
My goal as a president this year is to focus on the community of service. I want all the members to be able to say that they grew close bonds and memories with their friends
while volunteering together. Since time at Oxford passes by so fast (believe me now), these memories will honestly be one of your bests here at Oxford.
Let's make this year great Key Clubbers!!

Hey Key Clubbers! I hope you’ve had a fantastic first two weeks of
school! It’s been a lot harder fighting off naps and urges to play games but I
lived through it. This is the last newsletter before CLUB RUSH which is
SEPTEMBER 24-26 so be sure to JOIN KEY CLUB FOR THE 13-14
SCHOOL YEAR! You won’t regret it, I promise. Key Club has been a place
of meeting new people, volunteering, sharing laughs, inside jokes, and
countless memories. There is no doubt in my mind that Key Club will be a
life-changer for you as well. Don’t give me that “Key Club is too main-
stream” reason. We’re obviously mainstream for a reason. Join to find out
that reason. ;)
In this newsletter, expect to find articles written by our own mem-
bers, a quick club rush flyer reminding you why you should join Key Club,
and division updates. Be sure to skim through and see what’s up in our club
and our sun-tastic division! For those of you who attended August DCM,
I hope you had tons of fun! Be ready for September DCM at Angel’s
Stadium for Light the Night.
Unfortunately I don’t have much to talk about. Good luck on
the next four weeks of school and I wish for you all to get enough sleep,
less homework, and most of all to be happy. See you all at CLUB RUSH
ON SEPTEMBER 24-26 and at our first general meeting! JOIN
KEY CLUB! Keep on shining!

By Allen Justin David, Vice President Now that the new school year has begun, a freedom has been taken away. In the summer, we were free to plan our days away, or not to play our days away. We were able to attend this and go to that and maybe even drop by for that other thing. But now that school has come back into session, we are forced to plan ahead, and prioritize our responsibilities and leisure activities. We are forced to sacrifice all the sum-mer fun, for a long arduous journey to winter break. Hope-fully, somewhere in your journey, you’ll think about Key Club.
As an Oxfordian, our lives as high schoolers stray away from traditional high school lives. The majority of us hold leader-ship positions in and outside of school. Responsibilities pile up on top of our shoulders and we must now how to deal with everything. Key Club is one of those responsibilities.
As a Key Clubber, you must understand that you have a re-sponsibility to your community and to your school. That responsibility cannot be run away from. Nor can you hide
from it. Why? Because we will find you.
Just kidding, were not that type of club. But, we will try and get you to continue your service to the community.
Key Club is a great way to spend some social time with your friends without it being unproductive. Usually, social time is something you have to sacrifice while in school because you just don’t have enough time. With Key Club, you won’t be wasting any time at all! Every hour you spend with Key Club goes towards the betterment of your community. Not to mention an addition to your extra-curriculars, service hours, and leadership experience. (Which is great for college apps by the way.)
So make time for it! Out of your busy academic schedule, throw in some Key Club. You’ll be sure to gain a lot from it, which in the end will benefit you and those whom you’ve helped.

What time is it?? SUM…oh, just kidding. Summer’s over already (sigh), but it’s okay! We shouldn’t let that put us down! Do you know why? That’s right! Because it’s time for school and more Key Club events! YAY!
I know many people are disappointed; summer was a lot of fun, and we don’t want it to end. Who wants to wake up at 6, 6:30, 7 in the morning? Oh the horror… But hey, don’t let the pressure of school and grades drag you down. Now that school has start-ed, that just means we will have even more events planned for the new Key Club year!
And these events aren’t just limited to service, either! They also include fundraisers and socials, which I know no one wants to miss. People easily start feeling the pressure after a few days (I know people were tired even after the second day), but there is a cure to all this, and it is Key Club.
Sure it takes a lot of time and sometimes you have to beg your parents to go to an event despite your busy schedule. It may even overwhelm you that there are so many things you can attend, but the best thing about all of this is that it makes you feel better and also helps you make a difference in the world.
School tends to make people more self-centered; oh, I have to make sure I get really good grade s and oh, I hope I’m fitting in well with this particular group or whatever.
Key Club is different.
Key Club allows you to stand out not because of your appear-ance on the outside but how you look on the inside through your heart of service. As this year progresses, I challenge every-one to help someone at least once a month. Whether this means going to a Key Club event or doing a random act of kindness is up to you.
One selfless act can change your prospective for the entire year, and I believe each school year deserves to be the best.
This year is full of opportunities, and you don’t want to miss any of them!
So take off your thinking cap for one day. Go on an adventure with your friends in the world of Key Club. Bee ready to serve like you’re never served before. And, most importantly, have lots of fun and bee the best that you can be!
By Joelle Ngo, Project Chair And We’re Back!
During the summer, the Cypress Kiwanis hold Concerts on the Green on Saturdays. In August, I got to experience my first one, and not surprisingly I had loads of fun.
During the event, Key Clubbers manned the food booths. Since the event was around dinnertime, resisting the urge to eat the food was very difficult. We sold hot dogs, hamburg-ers, lemon cakes, chocolate cakes, triple berry muffins, choc-olate chip cookies, and so much more. Oxford Key Clubbers
worked alongside Cypress Key Clubbers and we worked well together.
The Kiwanis were so fun to work with and the guests were very kind. We even ran into one of our teachers from school. Overall this event was very enjoyable and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience and a better way to spend my summer Saturday.

MINI BEACH BOOMBA
Every year, Key Clubbers from Region 3 got to look forward to Beach Boomba, a time
to get to know key clubbers from throughout Orange County! Unfortunately, this year,
things changed. With the chaperone rule enforced stricter, and the number of willing adults
grew slimer, the annual Beach Boomba seemed like a lost cause.
Fortunately, the Divisional Leadership Team came together and decided on a Mini
Beach Boomba! We all agreed that over the past years, it was hard trying to get to know eve-
ryone from seven different divisions, so we decided to use this problem into a soluntion! We
decided to combine forces with Division 30 North with Division 30 South!
At Mini Beach Boomba, Key Clubbers were able to grow closer bonds with the other
division because of the smaller size. We played competitive games against one another which
included: tug-o-war, jump rope, water ballon fight, and dodge ball. Both of our divisions
brought an endless supply of food and drinks ranging from fried rice to donuts!
The highlight of our Mini Beach Boomba was pieing our Divisional Leadership Team.
Although quite a sacrifice for those on the DLT, everyone got a good laugh while raising
money for the Pediatric Trauma Program.
Overall this event was a success and I cannot wait to see how it will be next year!
