HORSE LOVERS’ WEEKEND Saturday, Sept. 5 to Monday, September 7 Celebrate our special relationship with the noble horse, including the 350th anniversary of the Canadian Horse’s first arrival in Canada. This action- packed three-day festival show¬cases riding, driving and working horses. Natural horsemanship and a mock horse auction will also be part of the program. Public entries are welcome! Enjoy the musical and magic shows in the fairgrounds. See livestock, agricultural and dairy products, vegetables, flowers, and fine arts. Join in the old fashioned fun and games which promise to entertain the whole family. New this year: step up to the plate and proudly show off your facial hair at the First Annual Beard and Moustache Championship! As well, an amazing array of contemporary works from quilting guilds across Eastern Ontario, and both antique quilts and historical reproductions from Upper Canada Village’s own collection will be on display. A MEMORABLE MOTHER’S DAY

Sunday, May 10 Treat Mom on her special day to the sights, sounds and scents of spring in this world renowned authentic 19th century setting. A special Mother’s Day menu will be offered at Willard’s Hotel, with seatings from 11:00 a.m. through the evening. Dinner reservations are recommended at (613)543-0660. The Harvest Barn Restaurant is open 11:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the Village must be purchased to dine on site.

QUEEN VICTORIA BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Sunday, May 17 Join in the celebration as our 1860s Village celebrates Queen Victoria’s birthday. Sing “God Save the Queen”, hear historical patriotic speeches, see grand military manoeuvres’, lace up for the 1860s athletic games, help out with the Village’s “Queen” (a hand-pumped fire engine), and enjoy a piece of birthday cake.

SPRING PLANTING WEEKEND

Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31The joy of Spring is watching fields and gardens come back to life after a long winter. Village farmers will be out with their horses, ploughing, harrowing, disking, seeding & rolling the land. Marvel at the skill of teamsters and the many different types of horse-drawn machinery. Village gardeners will be equally busy, transplanting young plants from the hot beds into the gardens. Experienced horticultural

interpreters will be on hand to answer seeding, transplanting and other gardening questions.

SHEEP SHEARING DAYS Tuesday to Friday, June 2 to 5

10:00 a.m.– 12:00 noon & 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Celebrate spring on the farm by trying your hand at sheep shearing and meeting the new lambs. Check the washing of fleece, and carding, spinning and weaving of wool at the McDiarmid House and at Asselstine’s water-powered Woollen Mill.

MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL Saturday and Sunday, June 6 & 7

Medieval Monday Education Day, June 8A colourful cast of medieval warriors, musicians, buskers, artisans, falconers, archers, merchants and jousting Knights in shining armour on horseback will converge at Upper Canada Village.

This festive encampment of tents, mini-stages, and livestock quarters will also feature “weapons of war” demonstrations, children’s games and activities, and a medieval marketplace. Adult - $20.00 • Senior Citizen (65+) - $17.00

BREAKING DOWN THE BARRIERS TO HISTORY Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21

Upper Canada Village invites people with disabilities to explore this multisensory and interactive site. Tactile diagrams, visual descriptions, sign language tours, touch tours and multisensory living history demonstrations will be offered to cater to diverse needs.

WAR OF 1812 RE-ENACTMENT

Step right into the authentically recreated camps of the British and American army during the War of 1812. Meet period craftspeople, artisans and sutlers who come together to create a large display of living military history. Watch re-enactment battles near the Battle of Crysler’s Farm Memorial Building, next door to Upper Canada Village. $5.00 per person – (can be applied to regular village admission fee)

RIDING IN STYLE - CARRIAGE RIDING WEEKEND

FOOD LOVERS’ FIELD DAYS

Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16 This summer, Upper Canada Village will be dishing up the flavours, aromas and medleys of nature’s bounty from the region! Food lovers will have a “field day” shopping and sampling from a host of modern-day, local food and beverage artisans showcased in the Village fairgrounds. Step back and discover the region’s original 100-mile diet through heirloom garden tours, heritage cooking demonstrations and taste testing throughout the historic site.

IRON PAN COMPETITIONSaturday Afternoon, August 15, 2015

Food Lovers Field Days will again be home to the second annual IRON PAN COMPETITION, where chefs from across the region will vie for the judges’ favour as they create a dish using a box of local mystery ingredients, each using a single cast iron skillet! Executive Chef Luc McCabe from NAV Centre (official sponsor of the competition) will lead the judging panel.

MURDERS & HAUNTS AT UPPER CANADA VILLAGE

Select nights in July and August Enjoy the warm summer evenings and the distinctive surroundings of Upper Canada Village by taking part in a murder mystery dinner full of laughter and suspense, or a Haunted Walk Experience, led by professional guides from the award-winning Haunted Walks Inc of Ottawa. Jump into 19th century dress-up clothing, participate in games, play with toys of a by-gone era and have some old-fashioned fun at the Village’s Family Activity Centre – open daily throughout the summer. Try your hand at carding wool, writing with a quill pen, playing a game of skittles, showing your artistry with a historically themed craft and lots more. Friendly staff will be on hand to provide instruction to visitors.

TRAVELLING TILTONS DAILY ~ JULY 1 TO SEPTEMBER 7 Watch the hilarious antics of this 1860s minstrel troupe who roll into town on a horse-drawn wagon. Enjoy the shameless promotion of “Tiltons’ Tonic” while entertaining audiences with their special brand of stand-up comedy, melodrama, singing and lively instrumental music.
