Plans are underway for Margaret and Gretchin to start at Sonata West, next door. We wish them all the best as they continue to grow with Sonata Health Care. We anticipate this will occur in late September or early October. We’re glad that department head managers Sharon Perez (business manager), Alan Beaudoin (Food Service Director), Kimberly Koehn (Wellness Director) and Jorge Caballero (Environmental Services Director) are staying at Serenades. Suzanne Boesch will join us as the Community Relations Director. She’s looking forward to meeting everyone soon! Serenades is celebrating National Assisted Living Week September 11- 17. Stay tuned for special events we’ll be doing with our staff and residents! Team Elliott will be conducting their annual Lifelong Learners Hall of Fame Ceremony on September 15. We look forward to seeing you there! In other news, Dr. Elyaman’s practice has been growing and he recently brought on a new ARNP, Jaqueline Spence, who will be seeing residents at Serenades. “Dr. E.” will still be rounding and his ARNP will be here on Tuesdays, just as KellyAnn had been. Jacqueline received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from University of Florida. Welcome! Lastly, we’re excited to announce that Thrive Dentistry will begin offering services at Serenades! Thrive Dentistry started when Dr. Ilkka realized that his father who was residing in an assisted living and suffering from memory loss, had a difficult time getting to dental appointments. He realized that dental care tailored to assisted living residents was such a need that he changed his practice to serve this population. If you would like your family member to utilize this service, please advise us and we can provide you with the necessary paperwork. Sharon will also include additional information when she sends out her monthly statements, and we’ll have additional copies at the community. Round ofApplause Congratulations to Joy Pensala for winning the Florida ALFA Caregiver of the Year Award. Joy Pensala has been employed with Serenades in Winter Garden for 4 years. During the course of her employment, Joy has battled breast cancer on two separate occasions. She only took the minimum time out for surgery, insisting with her physician that she be allowed to return to her residents as soon as possible. Joy continued to work while going through chemotherapy and radiation. She worked each day and NEVER called out. She wore a bandana on her head or a wig when she lost her hair. Her family members and her residents were her first priority. She said that caring for and loving the residents is what kept her going during the difficult months of battling cancer treatment. Joy Pensala truly exemplifies a ROCK STAR caregiver!
