Wow! The fall is already before us! It is amazing how quickly summer has passed. There is al-most like a “reset” button with life I find myself pushing in the fall. It is a starting point for the school year, yet also a time to establish a rhythm and routine.

In our household we are sending one into sev-enth grade, one into fourth grade, and one into second grade. As they embark on a new year there are different areas of growth mapped out for each of these grades. There are areas of read-ing, writing, and math that they will be challenged to learn. Each of my daugh-ters will have the choice to apply themselves to learn or not. I am considering how this so much relates to our spiritual journey with God.

A disciple is simply a learner, a student of the Lord Jesus. As we ap-proach this fall season there are many opportu-nities and avenues of growth before us. Part of your journey at this point may be stepping out to lead in a way that maybe you have not yet. It is amazing the growth and learning that can take place when we take that step of faith to lead. There may be something God is teaching you right now, or maybe He is trying to teach you and it will take you applying yourself to learn. I have found that so much of growth happens through community. We learn with and through each other.

The fall is a great time to engage in communi-ty! We have Grace Groups (sermon-based small groups), small groups, men’s, and women’s studies that are offered for you to have places to connect.

Involvement in a group is not as much about being a part of a program as it is growing as a disciple of Christ. There can be a subtle mind set that we go to a group or study in order to

“receive”. There are ab-solutely times where this happens, but what if we went to a group or study with something to give to others? This is exciting! Everyone sharing to each other what God has been doing in and through our lives.

Hebrews 3:13 says, “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of

you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

We are excited and anticipating this fall sea-son and the growth that will take place. May we apply ourselves to learn from Christ. May we make building community part of this! If you desire to find a group or facilitate a group please stop by the Welcome Center or email [email protected]

Tell a little bit about yourselfI am 49, I have three kids, one daughter and two sons. I have been married 29 years. My hobbies are fishing, camping, hiking, and sight seeing. I guess when it comes to my hobbies, I like anything outdoors.

What is your favorite breakfast?Biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns and eggs. And certain times of the year, razor clams with that!

Do you have a favorite sports team? That’s a tough one. Toss up between the Seattle Mariners or the Washing-ton Huskies.

Did you initially want to be involved in a group?Consequently, we’ve always wanted to be involved with a home group, just wasn’t able to find one that fit my work schedule. We always wanted to be in-volved in Tony Looney’s home group, because of course we love Tony, but he always had them on Sunday, and Peggie was always wor-ried about having to go alone, which she pre-fers not to. (She went to quite a few by herself and got pretty tired of it because it’s a couple thing in her opinion).

YOUR GROUPS STORY: MIC HAEL SC OTT

What happened that you started going to a group? The Lord just really impressed upon us in this season to get involved with a home group. We have been at Grace for a long time, and we just don’t feel like we have enough relationships with other Grace people.

What would you say has impacted you most?

It was really really good to connect with and meet some new people. To share in our struggles, our praises, and to help others in their times of difficulty. To us, that’s what it’s all about. Not to mention the things that we learned through the discussions. It was great; it was every-thing we had hoped for.

What might you say to someone who is on the fringe of engag-ing in a group?Jump right in! Don’t be apprehensive. You could miss out on building relationships with other believers, and miss out on a chance to go deeper with God. God honors relationships very much. Sometimes it seems easier to not get involved because we are so busy, but in the end, you’re going to be kicking yourself say-ing I wish we would have got involved sooner. Don’t miss an opportunity!

GRACE GROUPSGrace Groups are groups of people gathering together on a regular basis to discuss the sermon. Each week a discus-sion guide is provided for groups to use to help discussion.

Groups are organized by day of the week. To join a group you have two options: contact the leader directly or fill out a Groups Card at the Welcome Center.

Our next group season will start at the end of January. To start a group, contact Eli Gomez at [email protected]

If you need help selecting a group or have questions, contact Eli Gomez at [email protected] or 360-834-6336
