The Grand Aerie Officers of the Fraternal Order of Eagles commemorated the 80th Anni-
versary of the Social Security Act in August , by visiting the FDR Memorial in D.C.
For more than 55 million Americans each month, financial stability is provided through a
groundbreaking piece of legislation known as the Social Security Act. America’s largest
social program, signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 14, 1935, celebrates
80 years of assistance thanks in large part to the work of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The Eagles began the fight to establish financial assistance for the elderly and the unem-
ployed nearly 20 years before the signing of the Social Security Act, with members push-
ing state-by-state for the creation of Old Age Pension laws. In 1923, America’s first Old
Age Pension laws were established in Pennsylvania, Montana and Nevada.
Despite countless setbacks, the Eagles continued its mission and by 1933, 28 states had
enacted Old Age Pension laws. Such victories paved the way for the eventual signing of the
Social Security Act.
President Roosevelt, who passed an Old Age Pension law with the help of the Eagles dur-
ing his time as Governor of New York, recognized the organization for providing the push
necessary to enact Social Security.
“I have long observed with satisfaction the sponsorship by the Eagles of social justice leg-
islation both in the states and in the nation,” President Roosevelt said upon signing the
Act. “These effects have borne, and are bearing, gratifying results. Our countrymen owe
the Eagles good will for their unselfish services.”
Good day to you my brothers and sisters. Welcome to the end of summer. All is not lost though! The sun will con-tinue to shine, the rain doesn't seem to be starting just yet, but it does seem to be knocking at the door..... The only thing that seems certain, is that change is on the way, and we must welcome it.
Our meetings continue to need your attendance, hopefully with the changing of the season, we will see more activ-ity in the club, football season is upon us, kids are back in school, vacations are winding down and it is getting to be time to settle in for the winter.
The activity calendar is FULL, we continue to have fantastic events and fundraisers. The Trustees have continued their diligence in shepherding the club into the future, and I am grateful, for them doing so, and as Y our president, I thank them for all of us.
As promised, Jason West and I have scheduled our first Kid's Night (patent pending) scheduled for September 25th. We will be firing up the Broaster, and serving fried chicken, and Jason's "somewhat" famous mashed pota-toes. Please bring the kids, we have a GREAT time!
I'd like to welcome our new brothers Raul Caballero and Allan Shaughnessy, they initiated on 8/18, give them a great Eagles welcome, if you have the opportunity. As Eagles, we are responsible for the building of our club, from within. Please keep the new members coming!!
Our meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:30, right upstairs from the social room. Come on up, be heard, have some fun (the meetings are fun), be a part of our beloved Club's future.
Operation Eagle offers us the opportunity to show our support for those serving in the military. During the month of September, we will be collecting items to send over seas to our service men and women. There is a collection box located in the lounge, and we will ship the entire donation to Grand headquarters September 30th.

Football season is here and we are looking forward to another winning season – GO HAWKS!!! We enjoyed the
first two Seahawks pre-season games at the club watching the games on our big screen TV and serving hotdogs
and chili dogs benefiting my project to support domestic violence victims. A big thanks to Linda Fittro for work-
ing with me! I couldn’t have done it without her! There will be more meals and events during the season. Please
come and join us.
Our Auxiliary meetings are held of the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 7:00pm. Please come and join us
and get involved. We would love to have you!
VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED. If you have an idea for a dinner or event to benefit your favorite char-
