What is the FIREBALL RUN??Enid has been selected as a host destination for Season 8 of the Fireball Run: America’s Frontier and its Race to Recover America’s Missing Children. Enid is the 4th destination the

40 teams will visit during their 8 days of traveling 2,000 miles from Frisco, Texas to Independence, Missouri. The 40 teams

will arrive in Enid to compete in their challenges on September 30th.

team eniDWe asked our two drivers, Aaron Brownlee & Dr. Vanhooser a few

questions about the event:CM: Can you tell me what the Fireball Run is all about?AB: Sure, we’re really exited about the Fireball Run. It’s a cross between the Amazing Race and Cannonball Run. It’s a 2,000 mile trek across the country, and we’re hopeful to raise some money for each of the communities we visit and to hopefully find some missing children along the way!CM: What can you tell me about the car you’ll be driving?DR. V: Well, we had several to pick from, and we decided that we would take the Aston Martin. This is a 2009 Aston Martin VBS – it’s the car that James Bond drove in Casino Royale. They shot 19 of those cars up in that movie, which I hate to hear, but we’re gonna drive this to hopefully get some attention and help raise awareness. We have a wrap ordered for the car that Aaron and I have been designing – it is going to have the Enid logo on the side and an Enid flag, and we think it is going to really look cool. We hope to get to a couple of tracks during the event, they generally stop somewhere and have a little race event, so we can actually do some fast driving since we don’t really get to during the rest of the race. But we’re really hoping to have a good time with the car. So, the Aston Martin is what we are going to take this year. CM: Do you have a strategy to win?AB: We have met several times on our strategy, and it is still being developed. I’m thankful that we have some smart people behind us, and we are going to go at it and give it our best - not drive too fast, but push the limit every chance we get. CM: What can you tell me about the events that will be going on in Enid?DR. V: The night of September 30th, which is a Tuesday night, we’re really excited about. I think for Aaron and I, it is going to be laundry night. We will have been gone for 5 days in this small car with no trunk! But for the city of Enid, it is really going to be a lot of fun. When we arrive, if I understand the schedule correctly, we will arrive in Enid with all 40 of the teams at about 5:30 p.m., and we’d like to have the streets lined to cheer on all the people that are coming with us to town. And there is kind of a finish line. We stop, everybody gets out of the car, they announce who they are and where they are from, and then after that we are going to have a big dinner at the event center for all of the participants. We hope to put on a show that everyone who comes here is really going to remember, but I hope that for downtown Enid and for the public it will be much like a First Friday, or an event like that. The restaurants will be open, and the people will be all around. AB: The next morning is pretty critical too. We’re gonna hope that the streets are lined again to send everyone off in a good Enid fashion. I believe we will line up down on Grand Street heading south. So there will really be a unique picture of a bunch of really cool cars that are down hill and getting ready to take off. So I think that will be a really unique opportunity for families to bring their kids or maybe for schools to participate and bring some of their students. It should be a lot of fun!
